Fall day hike at Oil Creek - 36 miles on the Gerard Trail
Oil Creek is a very historic place. Home of the first commercial well in the United States and first major oil producing city. The first time I did this hike a few years ago it gave me a real hard time. To improve as a hiker I decided to try the entire 36 mile loop of the Gerard Trail that goes around Oil Creek in one day hike.

Gerard Hiking Trail to Drake Well Park 15X Hiker Lapse (11.8 Miles North) Oil Creek State Park, PA
I intended to meet the Clarion Chapter of the North Country Trail Association for the May 2017 Monthly Hike on the Gerard Hiking Trail. I had never heard of this trail before. (This year the Clarion NCTA is hiking different trails in Northwest, PA since 2016 was the year of the Tour de Clarion when hikers completed the entire North Country Trail in Venango and Clarion Counties.) After arriving slightly late, and searching for nearly an hour I decided to start hiking South from Drake's Mill. (That video will be rendered in real time) and posted soon. This is a 15X Hiker Lapse of my 11.8 mile run/ hike back to my vehicle. A few miles in you will see me stop. I have my last gatoraid and nothing to drink for the remainder of the hike. I average about 3.5 mph, which should look to be around 55 mph here. When I arrive at the trail register/ hiker box near the end of the trail (23+ miles in) I am quite dehydrated. I drank over a gallon of gatoraid, water, and Julius drinks from Dairy Queen on the way home.
I could not find the trail a bit on the first (Southbound part of the Hike). My estimated total distance hiked (including the Southbound hike) is 25 miles. This hiker lapse is nearly 4 hours of hiking/ trail running action.

Driving to Oil Creek State Park (11/2017) and Driving Home
This is the drive to Oil Creek State Park, PA (from Wexford, PA) before the 11/17/2017 hike I did, which is shown in the previously uploaded Movie titled:
Pt I: America's First Oil Boom in Northwest Pennsylvania (Exploring the Gerard Trail) 150 min
The drive North featured some snow flurries as I passed through Franklin, and Oil City PA before reaching Oil Creek State Park. The drive home in the dark, took me North and then West through Titusville, and Meadville, PA before heading South to Wexford, PA on Interstate 79. There was a lot more snow on the way home. Many portions of this movie are timelapsed at various speeds.

Venango County, PA History
Venango County was at the heart of the oil boom in the United States during the eighteen fifties. Following the boom, Venango had earned the nickname the valley that changed the world.
Today, the Pennsylvania oil rush is remembered at the Drake Well Museum, located in Titusville, Pennsylvania, at the exact same location that Drake and Bissell drilled for their oil.
The Pennsylvania oil rush created a number of boom towns including Oil City and Franklin, which still exist today.
Venango County is also home to the Venango Museum of Art, Science and Industry in Oil City. The featured exhibit is Black Gold or Black Magic. Dense with artifacts the exhibit consists of ten areas that explore the influences of oil on every day life, from the eighteen hundreds to today.

The train runs through Drake Well Park, as well as Oil Creek State Park in what is known as the Valley That Changed the World due to Col. Edwin Drake revolutionizing the way oil was drilled for with his well in 1859. The Train was pulled by OC&T #75, a 1947 built Alco S-2. The OC&T is also the only railway in the United States with an operating mail car.

Is This The Scariest Bridge In America?
The Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Maryland reaches nearly 200 feet in certain parts and measures 4.3-miles long from end to end - and for some motorists, getting behind the wheel and driving across the bridge is simply out of the question.

[Wikipedia] Oil City Pennsylvania Railroad Bridge
The Oil City Pennsylvania Railroad Bridge is a truss bridge that carries the Western New York and Pennsylvania Railroad (WNY&P) across the Allegheny River between Cranberry Township and Oil City, Pennsylvania. The bridge was originally built to serve the Pennsylvania Railroad as part of its Buffalo Line. WNY&P is the fourth owner of the structure. After the breakup of the Pennsy, Conrail took ownership of the line. The breakup of these company saw Norfolk Southern assigned the rights; the WNY&P took ownership in 2006 as they extended their trackage from Meadville, Pennsylvania to Oil City. Because the bridge once served as a major junction point for several Pennsylvania Railroad lines, it features a unique approach structure. One section went from Oil City through Tidioute, Pennsylvania and then on to Warren, Pennsylvania. Conrail abandoned this line in 1976, but it may re-open so that the WNYP has a direct route to Warren.
