Tallest Buildings in the world Height Comparison 2019 - 3D
Tallest Buildings in the world Height Comparison 2019 - 3D
This list ranks skyscrapers by height. Only buildings with continuously occupiable floors are included, thus non-building structures, including towers, are not included.
Ranking criteria
height to structural or architectural top;
height to floor of highest occupied floor;
height to top of any part of the building.
Spires are considered integral parts of the architectural design of buildings, to which changes would substantially change the appearance and design of the building, whereas antennas may be added or removed without such consequences. The Petronas Towers, with their spires, are thus ranked higher than the Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower) with its antennas, despite the Petronas Towers' lower roofs and lower highest point.

Why are there dozens of 'ghost cities' in China? | The World
Fancy villas, high-rise apartment blocks, lakes, parks and sprawling road networks: ghost cities in China have it all — except people. To some, the empty sprawls are a sign of a Chinese debt crisis, but to others it shows China's thinking one step ahead.

China's knock-off landmarks from around the world are almost as stunning as the real ones
They say everything's made in China these days. Surprisingly, that includes the world's most famous landmarks.
China is home to full-scale replicas of some very iconic structures, including the Eiffel Tower, White House, and Great Sphinx of Giza. These copycat villages and theme parks are tourism-gold.
See the photos and decide for yourself if these Chinese knock-offs hold up to the originals.
A replica of the Karnak Temple, located at the abandoned Wanguo park in Wuhan, China, captures the Egyptian temple's expanse and level of detail.
A 354-foot Eiffel Tower rip-off looms over a gated community in Tianducheng, China, where the architecture and landscaping mimics Parisian style.
A replica of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in Beijing, China, leads to a fake Sydney Opera House, one of Australia's most beloved pieces of architecture.
Arc de Triomphe rises over 10 meters in Jiangyan, China. It's one of three replicas of this Parisian landmark in the country.
A concrete-poured Great Sphinx of Giza towers over an unfinished theme park in Chuzhou, China. It looks like it still has its nose, though, unlike the real thing.
Its counterpart in the northern Hebei province, however, did get a nose lift. Egypt's ministry of antiquities complained to UNESCO about this full-scale replica because it reportedly harms the cultural heritage of Egypt.
Inspired by Moscow's Kremlin, this white-walled, gold-domed complex houses several government bureaus and cost up to $3.5 million to build.
The Louvre's iconic pyramid was designed by Chinese-American architect I.M. Pei. This version in the Chongqing Municipality looks a little more gloomy.
Beijing has its very own White House, sandwiched in a theme park alongside replicas of the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, and the US Capitol.
Imitations of the Moai statues on Easter Island line a pedestrian walkway in Beijing's business district.
The luxurious Chateau Laffitte Hotel imitates the 17th-century Château Maisons-Laffitte, a Parisian estate the embodies French baroque architecture.
The Roman Colosseum in Macau, China, seats 2,000 people and serves as an outdoor concert venue.
The $940 million Hallstatt community in Huizhou, China, rips off the culture and design of a centuries-old village in Austria.
Florentia Village in Wuqing, China, fills some 200,000 square meters of former corn fields with Italian-style architecture and bridges.
A grand canal even runs through the Florence-inspired village.
Shanghai's leaning Tower of Pisa is located over 5,000 miles away from the real deal, and yet, tourists take the same types of cheesy tourist photos with it. It's a small world.

The Wuhan World Trade Tower (Chinese: 武汉世界贸易大厦) is a 273 metre (896 foot) tall skyscraper located in Wuhan, China. As of April 2006, it is the tallest completed building in Wuhan however will be surpassed in late 2006 by the Minsheng Bank Building.
It was completed in 1998 and has 60 floors, 2 of which are underground and the remaining 58 are above ground. The tower serves for office purposes.
The tower is 273 metres up to the antenna however it is 248 metres tall up to the spire and 229 metres tall up to the roof.
As of April 2006, it is the 56th tallest existing building in the world when measured up to the highest architectural point.
Chinese engineers plan 1,000km tunnel to make Xinjiang desert bloom
Chinese engineers are testing techniques that could be used to build a 1,000km tunnel – the world’s longest – to carry water from Tibet to Xinjiang, experts involved in the project say.The proposed tunnel, which would drop down from the world’s highest plateau in multiple sections connected by waterfalls, would “turn Xinjiang into California”, one geotechnical engineer said.China’s longest tunnel is the eight-year-old 85km Dahuofang water project in Liaoning province, while the world’s longest tunnel is the 137km main water supply pipe beneath the city of New York.China starts 8,000 water clean-up projects worth US$100 billion in first half of yearHowever, the Chinese government started building a tunnel in the centre of Yunnan province in August that will be more than 600km long, local media reported. Comprising more than 60 sections, each wide enough to accommodate two high-speed trains, it will pass through mountains several thousand metres above sea level in an area plagued by unstable geological conditions.Researchers said building the Yunnan tunnel would be a “rehearsal” of the new technology, engineering methods and equipment needed for the Tibet-Xinjiang tunnel, which would divert the Yarlung Tsangpo River in southern Tibet to the Taklimakan Desert in Xinjiang. Downstream, in India, the river becomes the Brahmaputra, which joins the Ganges in Bangladesh. The Tibetan Plateau stops the rain-laden Indian Ocean monsoon from reaching Xinjiang, with the Gobi Desert in the north and the Taklimakan Desert in the south leaving more than 90 per cent of the region unsuitable for human settlement. However, the Taklimakan sits right at the foot of the Tibetan Plateau, which is known as the water tower of Asia. The more than 400 billion tonnes of water it releases each year – almost enough to fill Lake Erie in the United States – also feeds the source of other major rivers, including the Yellow, Yangtze, Mekong (known in China as the Lancang) and the Ganges. The earliest proposals to divert water from Tibet to Xinjiang were made by Qing dynasty officials Lin Zexu and Zuo Zongtang in the 19th century. In recent decades, Chinese government branches, including the Ministry of Water Resources, have come up with engineering blueprints involving huge dams, pumps and tunnels. The project’s enormous cost, engineering challenges, possible environmental impact and the likelihood of protests by neighbouring countries have meant it has never left the drawing board, but Zhang Chuanqing, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics in Wuhan, Hubei province, said China was now taking a quiet, step-by-step approach to bring it to life.“The water diversion project in central Yunnan is a demonstration project,” said Zhang, who has played a key role in many major Chinese water tunnel projects, including the one in Yunnan. “It is to show we have the brains, muscle and tools to build super-long tunnels in hazardous terrains, and the cost does not break the bank.”The construction of the tunnel on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, the country’s second-highest, would make political leaders more confident about the Tibet-Xinjiang project and more likely to approve it, he said. The Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau in southwest China is, like the Tibetan Plateau, an earthquake-prone zone with many active faults.Huge hidden ocean under Xinjiang’s Tarim basin larger than all Great Lakes combined“Fault zones are our biggest headache,” Zhang said. “If we can secure a solution, it will help us get rid of the main engineering obstacles to getting water from Tibet to Xinjiang.”The solution they came up with was inspired by subway trains, whose carriages are connected by elastic joints. In the tunnel, Zhang said, flexible materials that were also waterproof and strong would be used to bind concrete pipes together when they passed through fault zones. The Yunnan tunnel and support facilities will take eight years to build at an estimated cost of 78 billion yuan (US$11.7 billion). It will carry more than three billion tonnes of water each year from northwestern Yunnan to the province’s dry centre and directly benefit more than 11 million people, according to the provincial government. The Yunnan Daily said the tunnel would create 3.4 million jobs, more than 30,000 hectares of new farmland and give the local economy a 330 billion yuan boost.Wang Wei, a researcher who helped draft the latest Tibet-Xinjiang water tunnel proposal, which was subm

China's Foreign Ministry responded to block Kenneth Roth entering Hong Kong
Kenneth Roth, the executive director of Human Rights Watch, said that he was blocked from entering Hong Kong. China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it would impose sanctions on non-governmental organizations such as Human Rights Watch, which had behaved badly during the turmoil over amendments to fugitive legislation in Hong Kong. The spokesman Geng Shuang also highlighted that allowing or blocking anyone to enter the country is China's sovereign right. #HongKong #Roth

After lifting the one-child policy, why isn't China experiencing a baby boom?
Imposed in the late 1970s, the one-child policy was aimed at combating concerns over whether the economy could support a rapidly growing population.
Implementation was brutal – women were forced to undergo abortions and sterilisations, and couples were hit with high fines for daring to have more children.
Authorities finally scrapped the policy in 2015, allowing couples to have two children. The goal was to boost the number of babies born to replenish the already-shrinking labour force, the engine that propelled China’s to become the world’s second-largest economy.
But China has since struggled to engineer a baby boom.
With the labour force expected to fall roughly 23 per cent by 2050, according to official data, experts and policymakers are growing worried about long-term economic stagnation, especially as growth is already on the wane.

Shanghai/China:
Shanghai reigns as China’s financial and business center and stands as a symbol of modernity for the country. Last year, it received 215 million domestic tourists and 7.3 million overseas visitors and is working to increase tourism revenues by 70% by 2015. With that goal in mind, the city is investing $5.95 billion USD into a number of key projects.
The city’s focus on tourism has led way to the creation of some of the most beautiful urban landscapes in China. Here are five views you won’t want to miss on your next trip to Shanghai.
1. The Bund
Location: 475, Zhongshan East 1st Rd (Google)
Best Views: Pudong (Shanghai World Financial Center, Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Jin Mao Tower and Shanghai Tower)
Description: The Bund is the waterfront area along the western bank of the Huangpu River in central Shanghai. It is one mile long and all spots here offer amazing views. However, the spot by the wooden benches is probably a bit better because it is more elevated. On the other hand, when it has rained, it provides beautiful reflections of people.
2 Nanjing Road
Location: Nanjing Road at People’s Square
Best Views: Nanjing Road
Description: Nanjing Road is located in the city center, running in a west-east direction and is the main shopping street of Shanghai. Around 5.5km long, it attracts over 1 million visitors daily. At 7 pm all the neon lights come to life making it crazy and beautiful at the same time. It gets overcrowded, and by that I mean you’ll be part of a homogeneous walking mass. If you stand crowds, thumbs up. If you don’t, this is number one spot to stay away! Great photographs from here though.
3. Waibaidu Bridge
Location: Waibaidu Bridge ar Huangpu Lu
Best Views: Waibaidu Bridge, Shanghai World Financial Center, Oriental Pearl TV Tower and Jin Mao Tower
Description: Built in 1908 as the first all-steel bridge and the only surviving example of a camelback truss bridge in China. I was amazed by how packed this bridge is, given that the best views are not from the inside but from the other side of the road. At 7pm it lights up in a very beautiful way, having Pudong’s skyline in the background. Love the contrast between old and new architecture!
4.Yuyuan Gardens
Location: 137 Anren Jie (Google)
Best Views: Yuyuan Pavilions, Shanghai Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center, and Jin Mao Tower
Description: Yu Garden was first conceived in 1559 during the Ming Dynasty. The gardens suffered damage numerous times during the 19th century. Since they were opened to the public in 1961, this complex of pavilions and gardens has been an observing point of Shanghai’s changing skyline. Almost all the surrounding buildings have been demolished leaving this old structure alone in a concrete jungle. From the main square (where everyone is eating dumplings) you can get a few spots for getting the Tea Temple with Shanghai Tower in the background. However, the best views are from the pond inside the Yuyuan Garden, which has an admission fee.
5. Huangpu River Cruise
Location: Zhongshan Dong Er Lu 219 (Google)
Best Views: Huangpu River skyline (East + West)
Description: Huangpu River is a silent eyewitness to Shanghai’s history and its (crazy) development. Unfortunately, cruising on the river has become a must for most visitors to the city so it’s full of tourists (again, people who take pictures with their iPads). That being said, it’s a must do activity, especially if you only have a few days in Shanghai. I don’t remember the company name, but it departed from here. I took the night tour which departed at 7pm, and it was very packed but very beautiful.Wikipedia

20-story building demolished in 7 seconds
A 20-story hotel with a height of 77 meters and two residential buildings were demolished within 7 seconds on Tuesday in central China' s city of Wuhan.
