Weymouth, Portland & Lulworth Cove (Dorset UK) 1963
Filmed using silent Kodachrome 8mm stock in the summer of 1963. Includes a trip along the sea front in Weymouth and a drive along the road to Portland via the causeway. The roads are full of classic cars although none are as old as the 1937 Morris Eight that I was driving at that time. The film was taken on a French clockwork Beaulieu MR8 camera with an Angineau zoom lens. It was expensive for the time at £150 but I bought it in a sale for half price. It took me two years to pay off the HP (hire purchase). No credit cards in those days! For comparison I was earning £12 a week as a skilled mechanic and petrol was 20p a gallon (4.5 litres).
Edited on my P4P800 Asus computer using Windows Movie Maker with a soundtrack generated by Magix music software (no copyright issues). Enjoy this flickery trip into the Dorset of yesteryear.

Durdle Door, Dorset is a natural limestone arch on the Jurassic Coast near Lulworth in Dorset, England. Eroded by time and nature, Durdle Door is one of Dorset’s most photographed and iconic landmarks. It is located on the Lulworth Estate in south Dorset part of the Jurassic Coast.
The magnificent natural limestone arch was formed when the power of the waves eroded the rock and forged a hole through the middle. The name Durdle is derived from an old English word ‘thirl’, which means to pierce, bore or drill.
As you look towards the sea, you will see Durdle Door beach on your right. Access to the pebble and shingle beach is on foot via a path and steps over the hill from Lulworth Cove or down from the Car Park (charges apply) which is located on the cliff top at Durdle Door Holiday Park. There is a coach drop-off at the car park, and coach parking is at Lulworth Cove (postcode for Sat Nav is BH20 5RQ).
My journey on the video starts at the Lulworth Cove car park and takes me over the hill on the foot path to Durdle Door. From a distance it doesn't look as steep - but don't be fooled - the climb is steep and can be difficult especially in flip flops! The views are amazing and it's delightful once you reach Durdle Door. An historical place everyone should visit!
The Old George Inn toilets, Christchurch, Dorset LL Twyfords
Another Twyfords but in grander settings. Not bad for a set of pub toilets, I like what they done with the cistern lid being painted in gold paint.

1976 Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, Man Of War Bay, The old Chain Ferry
This was our first camping trip away with dad. Nice and local so we could get back home to retrieve any emergency supplies that we had forgotten. Of course, we took the dog. You can still pitch up under the pines at Durdle Door campsite to this day!
We walk down the rough track to see Man Of War Bay, and Durdle Door itself. Then a view of Lulworth and the Cove. We take a trip on one of the little boats out into the bay to view the coastline from the sea. Note, Adults 50p, children 25p, those were the days! When we get back to Lulworth, w eplay on some coin operated radio controlled boats, which look as though they were in Lulworth, I remember playing on them, but not where they were - it was 43 years ago! More views of the eroded Jurassic coastline, anticlines, synclines, arches etc, that this coast is famous for. Then we drive onto the chain ferry, floating bridge, the old un-named one before the current Bramble Bush Bay, that ran from 1958 to 1994, and is still moored in the Poole Harbour as of 2019. A Truckline ship passes through the harbour entrance before we cross.

In 60 seconds: - Weymouth Town Bridge going up. Visitors love to watch this.
Weymouth Town Bridge is the 6th to cross the harbour linking the old Weymouth and Melcombe Regis parts of the borough. The previous bridge was demolished in 1928 and the new one was opened by the Duke of York. later King George VI on 4th July 1930. It is raised several times a day to allow access to and from the Weymouth Marina (Inner Harbour). The deck is on twin steel bascules each weighing 200 tonnes (?), which are counterbalanced to minimise the mechanical effort required to lift them.
