Martin Johnson Heade 馬丁·約翰遜·黑德 (1819 - 1904) Realism American
tonykwk39@gmail.com
Martin Johnson Heade, Heade originally spelled Heed (born August 11, 1819, Lumberville, Pennsylvania, U.S.—died September 4, 1904, St. Augustine, Florida), American painter known for his seascapes and still-life paintings and associated with the luminist aesthetic.
Heade grew up in rural Pennsylvania and studied art with his neighbour the folk artist Edward Hicks and possibly with Hicks’s cousin Thomas Hicks, a portrait painter. He exhibited his work publicly for the first time in 1841, at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, and from that point proceeded to exhibit frequently. Heade’s earliest works were genre paintings and portraits of notable figures, such as American military and political leader Sam Houston (1847) and the Rev. Noah Hunt Schenck (before 1849).
Though he moved to New York City in 1843, Heade did not settle there until 1859. Instead, he traveled regularly, painting in locations throughout the United States and Europe. He began painting landscapes in the mid-1850s. Many of his coastal scenes of the late 1850s and early 1860s depict dark waters and skies that suggest an impending storm (e.g., Approaching Thunder Storm [1859] and Approaching Storm, Beach near Newport [c. 1861–62]). Art historians have interpreted that prevalent theme to be Heade’s expression of the imminent Civil War. Heade’s later landscape paintings are less ominous, featuring glowing, calm skies or brilliant sunsets over salt marshes and haystacks at points along eastern shores of the United States. In 1863 Heade traveled to Brazil, where he was enchanted by the tropical setting and the hummingbirds. He set out to create illustrations for a book on the birds and produced numerous compositions, including a series of some 20 small paintings that he called “The Gems of Brazil.” Emperor Dom Pedro II of Brazil was impressed with Heade’s work and made him a Knight of the Order of the Rose, an imperial order established in 1829. By 1871 Heade had traveled at least twice more to both Central America and South America. His paintings inspired by those later trips also feature hummingbirds, but he began to set them among tropical flowers, as in Passion Flowers and Hummingbirds (1873–80) and Orchids and Spray Orchids with Hummingbirds (1875–90). He also painted coastal scenes and highly detailed still lifes of flowers alone (e.g., Magnolias on Gold Velvet Cloth [c. 1888–90]).
In 1883 Heade finally settled in St. Augustine, Florida, where he married for the first time and lived the rest of his life. He continued to paint and found a patron in oil tycoon Henry M. Flagler. After Heade’s death his work was forgotten until the 1940s, when renewed interest in American painting unearthed his large body of work, which in turn inspired numerous exhibitions and catalogs as well as increasingly high prices at auction.

RE - Eastern State Penitentiary Pennsylvania, USA
This video, in which I cut from the original footage, will show a rather peculiar angle to this so called Reaper as most refer it. The investigation T.A.P.S. had preformed was rather... one sided to me. If you watch closely, you can see that the ghost runs around the bend in the middle and into a shadowy cell. These are only factual theories though, not actual evidence. My research equipment is really limited so I will use what I have to find more out about this Reaper.

University of Pennsylvania baseball player living with brain tumor hoping to help others
Kevin Eaise's world was thrown into a panic in the blink of an eye. Nearly 9 years ago during a Vineland Little League game, he was seeing double. Within a week, doctors discovered a tumor. The 10-year-old immediately had brain surgery at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Thankfully, the tumor was benign, but it was also inoperable because of its location, so the Monroeville, New Jersey native still lives with the tumor in his head. READ MORE:

PHILADELPHIA - USA Travel Guide | Around The World
Philadelphia, located in Southeastern Pennsylvania, in the Mid-Atlantic region, is the fifth most-populous city in the United States. Often referred to as Philly, the city is coterminous with Philadelphia County. Philadelphia sits adjacent to the New Jersey and Delaware borders, and as such, its metropolitan area encompasses counties in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.
Philadelphia, once the capital of the United States, plays an exemplary role in the history and life of the nation. Its colonial legacy and architecture are almost unrivaled and its universities, museums, companies and laboratories are world class. The city has also become an increasingly important cultural and artistic center as well in the past few decades. As Philadelphia rebounds from its mid-20th century decline, the city is now seen as a model for sustainable urban growth and a surprisingly affordable haven for those seeking the best of urban American life without the expense or pretense of other neighboring East Coast cities.
Travelers planning to visit multiple attractions may benefit from Philadelphia CityPASS, which grants admission to 6 Philadelphia attractions within 9 days of first use for a much reduced rate and includes expedited entry in some cases. The included attractions are: The Franklin Institute; Adventure Aquarium; Phila Trolley & The Big Bus Company, 24 hours of on-off privileges; Philadelphia Zoo; Option Ticket One with choice of either The Academy of Natural Sciences or the National Constitution Center and Option Ticket Two with choice of Please Touch Museum or Eastern State Penitentiary. A Weekend in Philly offers a detailed itinerary that includes several of these attractions.
Much of Philadelphia's art requires not a dollar to see and not a building to enter. Philadelphia has the largest collection of public art in the nation, courtesy of the city's innovative Mural Arts Program, designed to stop graffiti and enliven the city's buildings. They even provide a free tour. Other public art of note includes the many glass mosaics found throughout the city; a sampling of this great public art can be seen on South St. east of Broad.
Center City West is home to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Barnes Foundation, Academy of Natural Sciences, Franklin Institute Science Museum, Mutter Museum, Rosenbach Museum & Library and Rodin Museum. Center City East is home to the African American Museum, and Atwater Kent Museum of Philadelphia History. Old City is home to the National Museum of American Jewish History and Independence Seaport Museum. West Philly is home to the Please Touch Museum North Philly is home to the Wagner Free Institute of Science.
For most visitors, the landing point will be Center City, the downtown section of Philadelphia. It is bounded by Vine St. to the north, the Delaware River to the east, South St. to the south, and the Schuylkill River to the west. The 2010 Center City residential population of 57,000 makes it the third most populated central business district in America, behind New York City and Chicago. Other popular districts to visit are Old City, West Philly, and South Philly.
Haunted Grave of Bessie The Witch - Tallahassee, Florida
We are now entering the oldest cemetery in Tallahassee, Florida called the Old City Cemetery and I am gonna show you a mysterious witch grave. I am Praveen Mohan and here is a 12 feet tall obelisk of Bessie, a witch who died when she was just 23 years old. This happened more than a century ago in 1889, and her full name was Elizabeth Budd Graham.
So what is so strange about this monument? To begin with, this grave and the inscription face west, and if you look around all the other graves face east because that is the accepted Christian custom. And this tombstone is the tallest and most ornate and made of 15 tons of French granite. And legend has it that anyone who tries to have a taller structure in this cemetery cannot succeed. A few families have tried to build more elaborate monuments and they were desecrated a few days later.
Before getting to the ghost stories, people have seen actual witches performing ceremonies at night, this is not a rumor but it really happens. On full moon and new moon nights, people who drive by still see a group of witches standing around this obelisk with candles. Ghost stories include seeing a young woman weeping and sobbing right here. And if you visit this grave, Bessie will show up in your dreams that very night. Another story says that a new offering is made to her every day for all these years. This may be true, because you can see 2 quarters and 2 dimes neatly placed here. And you’ll see a lot of shells put in to this granite vase as offerings. Legend also has it that if you look into this vase, you will see the reflection of a dark soul looking straight into your eyes.
One weird thing that I found while taking still pictures - my flash was always reflected on this side of the tombstone. I tried several times but just couldn't get rid of it. Is it because of some strange energy or do I just suck at taking pictures?
So why did she die at such a young age? Heart disease? She’s too young for that, but locals think that she was slow poisoned by a close relative and she had a long, painful death which is why her soul has not rested in peace all these years.
Most people believe that she was loved by everyone before she died and the rumors started after her death. But if you look at this epitaph, we can understand that she was hated by many and she could have even been poisoned by a relative.
Why do I say this? This epitaph engraved by her husband is originally from a poem called Lenore written by Edgar Allen Poe when his wife passed away at the age of 24.
It reads:
“Ah! Broken is the golden bowl. The spirit flown forever! Let the bell toll! A saintly soul
Floats on the Stygian River; Come let the burial rite be read | The funeral song be sung;
An anthem for the queenliest dead| That died so young |A dirge for her the doubly dead
In that she died so young.”
And this has inspired people to give a lot of evil meanings – for example, some argue that the queenliest dead means that Bessie was the queen of the dead. But you can toss them out unless you want to believe that Poe’s wife herself was a witch. The real meaning is hidden in the immediately following lines of the Poem, which the husband has cleverly left out.
Wretches! ye loved her for her wealth and hated her for her pride
And when she fell in feeble health, ye blessed her--that she died!
You can see how, the people around her probably pretended to love her for her wealth and secretly hated her for her pride. And when she fell ill, they wanted her to die. What’s more interesting, Poe’s wife Virginia also claimed in her deathbed, that a woman named Ellet poisoned her. The real meaning of the inscription is clear: People hated Bessie and spread rumors about her even when she was alive. And sadly, these rumors are still alive after 129 years, and even modern day witches believe them.
So, whether you believe in ghosts or not, there is something more evil around us – hateful and wicked people. At least this is what she told me in my dreams last night.
Please visit for intriguing and interesting places on the planet.
