With so much to experience, we need a second video to fit all of Rhodes....
Welcome back to Old Town Rhodes on the Island of Rhodes in Greece.
Link to Part 1 -
This video starts in the courtyard of the Palace of the Grand Masters. For 10 Euro we got a combo ticket that included access to the Palace of the Grand Masters, the Rhodes Archaeological Museum, The Church of our Lady of the Castle and a Jewelry Collection. And you have up to 3 days to visit all four sites
We spent about 30 minutes at the Palace of the Grand Masters doing a self guided tour. They have organized the tour so you follow a one way path covering all open areas of the Palace. While we found nothing mind blowing at the Palace, it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Old Town Rhodes and as such, should be explored.
The Palace also has a small museum dedicated to the History of Rhodes, where Photos and Videos are not allowed. They have guards inside the Museum actively stopping people from taking pictures.
There is also a Walk along the wall experience that allows guests to walk along the outer wall of the Palace like archers guarding the perimeter. Access is not included in the combo ticket, but we did not see where you can purchase tickets for this. It might be back at the entrance or in the gift shop. Because tickets were hard to find, this was not a popular attraction.
We then made our way to Elli Beach which is one of the most famous beaches in Rhodes. While the water is crystal clear the beach is all rocks and pebbles rather than soft white sand, so keep that in mind. Chairs and umbrellas are available for rent at 10 euro each.
Interesting note, much of the market area of old town Rhodes lost power while we were there. So shops and restaurants were all dark for the last hour and a half we were there. But the locals did not seem bothered by this and continued their day. We had lunch during this time and the restaurant cooked all the meals on wood grills, which probably added to the taste.
Our last stop was the Rhodes Archaeological Museum, which was the best of our time in Rhodes.
The Archaeological Museum of Rhodes is located within the walls of the old town and is a must when visiting Rhodes. Plan to spend about 2 hours touring the museum a
The Museum contains various collections of archaeological artifacts from various parts of Rhodes and the neighboring islands, including the Statue of the Crouching Aphrodite (1st century BC), which was inspired by a famous prototype work created by the sculptor Doidalsas in the 3rd century BC, and the Pyxis of the Fikellura type (mid-6th century BC).
The museum also holds the Head of Helios, which was featured in 2011 on the album cover of Floral Shoppe by Macintosh Plus, and subsequently became famous for its association with the Vaporwave movement.
There are also Burial finds (vases, figurines, jewelry, metal artifacts) dating back to the 9th - 4th centuries BC which are interesting to see in person.
Overall, Rhodes was one of our favorite stops in Greece, if not most favorite and we highly recommend Rhodes if you are into history, artifacts and a medieval experience.

RHODES GREECE TRAVEL VLOG - LINDOS ACROPOLIS - VALLEY OF THE BUTTERFLIES - BEACHES - DONKEY RIDE
RHODES GREECE is one of the most famous islands in history. This video takes you to the top sites on the island of Rhodes. The cities of Rhodes, and Lindos, and a trek through the Valley of the Butterflies are showcased.
Rhodes is a Greek island steeped in history, there is much to see here beyond the beaches. We start our tour of the island in Rhodes Old Town. Most of what you’ll see in Rhodes Town was constructed in the 14th century by the Knights of St. John, who occupied the island for 200 years.
This video takes you to Lindos to see the impressive Ancient Acropolis towering over the town. While it’s possible to head up to the Acropolis on foot, we opted for the donkey ride for the steep ascent. After our visit to the Acropolis we hung out on the beautiful Lindos Beach with crystal clear refreshing water.
Every summer, butterflies known as Jersey Tiger Moths (Euplagia quadripunctaria rhodosensis) visit the numerous Oriental Sweetgum trees of this valley in Rhodes island in order to spend the last stage of their life cycle! This is a must see if you are on Rhodes Greece. Petaloudes or Valley of the Butterflies is a cool excursion.

The Time We Visited the Medievel City in Rhodes, Greece
Remember the time we got caught in a rain storm in the medieval city of Rhodes? We had just finished exploring the Palace of the Grand Master of Knights.
I will never forget how it felt to run through the wet river stone roads as we ducked in any out of corridors. We felt like we were the only ones there because we decided to travel during the off season and there were no other tourists. What a great decision that was!

Rhodes Trip!
While in Rhodes we were told that, especially outside of tourist season, it is best to rent a car. We took the advice and we are so glad we did. It was only 20 euros per day and allowed us to see the town and acropolis of Lindos, which we had to ourselves. (Apparently in summer there are non stop lines moving through the whole thing) We also got to find our way to the incredible, totally greek restaurant called Paragka! The restaurant sits just below the highest point of the island: Profitis Ilias. This was such a wonderful day, and we really got a feel for genuine Rhodes.

LINDOS, RHODOS, RHODES
LINDOS, RHODOS, RHODES, Lindos is an archaeological site, a fishing village and a former municipality on the island of Rhodes, in the Dodecanese, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Rhodes, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 178.9 km2. It lies on the east coast of the island. It is about 50 km south of the town of Rhodes and its fine beaches make it a popular tourist and holiday destination. Lindos is situated in a large bay and faces the fishing village and small resort of Charaki.,Lindos was founded by the Dorians led by the king Tlepolemus of Rhodes, who arrived in about the 10th century BC. It was one of six Dorian cities in the area known as the Dorian Hexapolis. The eastern location of Rhodes made it a natural meeting place between the Greeks and the Phoenicians, and by the 8th century Lindos was a major trading centre. In the 6th century it was ruled by Cleobulus, one of the Seven Sages of Greece. The importance of Lindos declined after the foundation of the city of Rhodes in the late 5th century BC.
In classical times the acropolis of Lindos was dominated by the massive temple of Athena Lindia, which attained its final form in around 300 BC. In Hellenistic and Roman times the temple precinct grew as more buildings were added. In early medieval times these buildings fell into disuse, and in the 14th century they were partly overlaid by a massive fortress built on the acropolis by the Knights of St John to defend the island against the Ottomans., Above the modern town rises the acropolis of Lindos, a natural citadel which was fortified successively by the Greeks, the Romans, the Byzantines, the Knights of St John and the Ottomans. This makes the site difficult to excavate and interpret archaeologically. The acropolis has views of the surrounding harbours and coastline.
On the acropolis of Lindos today parts of the following buildings may still be seen:
The Doric Temple of Athena Lindia, dating from about 300 BC, built on the site of an earlier temple. Inside the temple is the table of offerings and the base of the cult statue of Athena.
The Propylaea of the Sanctuary, also dating from the 4th century BC. A monumental staircase leads to a D-shaped stoa and a wall with five door openings.
The Hellenistic stoa with lateral projecting wings, dating from about 200 BC. The stoa was 87 metres long and consisted of 42 columns.
The well-known relief of a Rhodian trireme (warship) cut into the rock at the foot of the steps leading to the acropolis. On the bow stood a statue of General Hagesander, the work of the sculptor Pythokritos. The relief dates from about 180 BC.
The Hellenistic staircase (2nd century BC) leading to the main archaeological area of the acropolis.
Remains of a Roman temple, possibly dedicated to the Emperor Diocletian and dating from about 300 AD.
The Acropolis is surrounded by a Hellenistic wall contemporary with the Propylaea and the stairway leading to the entrance to the site. A Roman inscription says that the wall and square towers were repaired at the expense of P Aelius Hagetor, the priest of Athena in the 2nd century AD.
The Castle of the Knights of St John, built some time before 1317 on the foundations of older Byzantine fortifications. The walls and towers follow the natural conformation of the cliff. A pentagonal tower on the south side commanded the harbour, the settlement and the road from the south of the island. There was a large round tower on the east facing the sea and two more, one round and the other on a corner, on the northeast side of the enceinte. Today one of the towers at the southwest corner and one to the west survive.
The Greek Orthodox Church of St John, dating from the 13th or 14th century and built on the ruins of a previous church, which may have been built as early as the 6th century.
Some scenes of the well-known film, The Guns of Navarone, were filmed here.
