Peter Hammill: Poetry Reading at Palazzo Ducale in Genoa, Italy (14.06.2005)
Familiar words sounding differently... Accents, emotions, dynamics... Reading poetry, acting musically...
All of these and, probably, more can be found in this video taken on the 14th of June 2005 at Palazzo Ducale in Genoa, Italy, where Peter Hammill participated in 11° Festival Internazionale di Poesia. Massimo Onesti beautifully presented the Italian versions of some of the lyrics. He read them from the book Dark Figures Running. Tutti I Testi 1968-1978 that was released in the same year by the pH/VdGG Italian Study Group.

The Palazzo Ducale in Genoa is one of the main historic buildings and art museums, formerly the seat of the ancient Republic staves.
Left abandoned for a long time and used as the seat of the courts in the seventies before the construction of the new courthouse Portoria, saw complete its restoration during the Colombiadi of 1992, which were commemorated Christopher Columbus and the Quincentennial of the discovery of America. It houses the main floor important art exhibitions, debates and conferences (organized in the frescoed rooms of the Major and Minor Council) and, in the courtyards and arcades, shops and eateries. The building is managed by the foundation Genoa Palazzo Ducale Foundation for Culture that has divided the space into multiple functions. Inside you can also see events at the same time dedicated space. Inside the building there are also the home to many cultural associations and the gym of mathematics Matefitness. In 2001 they met in conference the heads of state and government gathered in Genoa for the G8. Born from the aggregation of a number of medieval buildings and enlarged over the centuries with the construction of new buildings, the building has an irregular plan that covers a total area of about thirty-five thousand square meters and a style varied between different facades . It is located on the edge of the old town on the hilltop of San Domenico, a short walk from the cathedral of San Lorenzo and the palace of the archbishop, and can be accessed through the main entrance on Piazza Matteotti, which opens onto the neoclassical facade Simone Cantoni, or through entrances on Piazza De Ferrari east. The bodies of the building are the oldest ones on the west side overlook Via Tommaso Reggio and climb the Archdiocese and that made the palace of the abbots and the palace of Alberto Fieschi, with adjoining tower Grimaldina. The medieval buildings are visible on the façade facing Via Tommaso Reggio, the pointed arches of the loggia of the palace of the abbots and Palazzo Fieschi. These arches are located about two meters above the street level, due to the lowering of the ground made in the nineteenth century to allow the fitting of Via San Lorenzo, and were rebuilt by Orlando Grosso during the operation of the restoration carried out by him in 1935. Previously the prospectus on via Tommaso Reggio presented instead a Mannerist facade made from Vannone in the sixteenth century, partially demolished by Orlando Grosso to recover the underlying medieval architecture restorative according to the canons of the time. The work of Grosso also brought important works of consolidation of the interior rooms, required due to the weakening of the facade, and the opening of four lights in the blind because they do not fit together with the internal structures. At the intersection of Via Tommaso Reggio and the ascent of the Archdiocese you may notice two small suspension bridges, called pontine, which served to connect the apartments of the Doge's Palazzo Ducale with the criminal arena and with the cathedral, so that the doge and other officials of the building could move without having to take to the streets. The statements of the Archbishopric and climb uphill on the Fondaco, respectively west and north of the building, retain most of the features of the Mannerist works carried out in the late sixteenth century by Vannone. They have a high smooth facade, devoid of decoration and covered with a light plaster, on which opens a series of windows, almost all of rectangular form, observing which it is possible to easily find the position of the inner rooms. In the middle of the prospectus of the slope Fondaco are three large arched windows, which identify the landing at the top of the first flight of stairs leading to the main floor. At the sides of these and other greater height arched windows are located in correspondence of the landings between the second and third ramps of the staircase. The tower Grimaldina, in the fourteenth century called tower of the people rises above the loggia of the abbots, the prospectus overlooking Via Tommaso Reggio. Its precise date is uncertain: Orlando Grosso, who renovated it in the early twentieth century, brought back to its probable appearance Trecentesco, its construction would be between 1298 and just over 1307; other historians, such as Poggi, speculate that it was one of the defense towers of the walls of the tenth century. Probably the tower was built before 1291 and was part of the palace Fieschi when this was acquired as the headquarters of the captains of the People in 1294. The name Grimaldina could come from the name of one of the cells that were in it. The tower has seven floors, the lower four included within Fieschi palace while the three higher rise above the palace. The first floor has rustication covering the whole of the lower level of the building Fieschi and a recent rectangular window.

Celoročně pro veřejnost bývají otevřené tyto paláce: Palazzo Rosso, Palazzo Bianco a Palazzo Tursi, v jejichž zdech sídlí muzea a galerie.

This is a museum in Genoa, Italy, with a projection show set to music. The best part, I think, is when the projections make it look like parts of the building are moving - like the building is transforming.
