Places to see in ( Asti - Italy ) Palazzo Mazzetti
The Mazzetti palace is a baroque palace in Asti , which overlooks the Contrada Maestra (the current Corso Alfieri). It is the seat of the civic picture gallery of Asti. According to Gabiani, the palace was built on the site of a massive stronghold belonging to the Turkish family . In 1442 , appears an act of purchase of goods and funds of the Turkish family, by the Mazzetti di Frinco. It is on the basis of this document that Gabiani also hypothesizes the sale of the Palace, even if no mention is made in the deed.
According to the latest assumptions, it is probable that before the construction, small houses existed, little by little purchased by Mazzetti, and in the seventeenth century, the unification of the buildings began with the construction of the Palace. In 1730 there was the construction of the gallery on the first floor, and continued in 1751 with the construction of the façade, the atrium, the staircase and the rooms to the east of the gallery.
Purchased by the Cassa di Risparmio di Asti of 1937 , three years later it granted the City to set up the Museum and the Pinacoteca Civica. Since 2001, owned by the Cassa di Risparmio di Asti Foundation, in December 2011 it reopens to a completely reorganized and restored public. Inside you can visit the cellar floor, with the pantries and the icebox and the permanent archaeological exhibition Souvenir m'en doit, the main floor with the historic rooms and the second floor set up only at the Pinacoteca. In the Civic Collections there are several sections on display:
The wood and ivory works of Giuseppe Maria Bonzanigo ( 1745 - 1820 )
The eastern collection of Rear Admiral Eugenio Secondo Guglielminetti
The Gerbo collection of antique fabrics
Piedmontese paintings of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries
The paintings of the Asti painter Michelangelo Pittatore ( 1825 - 1903 )
The 800 from Asti
The contemporary art of the Alfieri Award.
It was a noble family from Chieri and settled in Asti in the fifteenth century , when Nicoletto and Domenico Mazzetti bought some properties from the Turco family. Their business was that of merchants and money lenders. The Mazzetti to Frinco had the privilege of beating money; this happened until 1614 , with the revocation of the duke Carlo Emanuele I of Savoy , for the continuous frauds and falsifications.
