Iola @ Palisade Brewing Company - Jack Sundrud
Here in Colorado we may be higher in altitude and our choice of medicinals than any other state (besides Washington) , but let there be no state of confusion . We're a little closer to the earth here. It's still a farm state and we're proud of it.
In 1960 Sen Wayne Aspinall said that in the West, Water is everything. If you make you're living from crops or from recreation on this beautiful Colorado River, Then you know exactly what he meant. There is a look in a farmers eye when he's staring wall-eyed across a field of burning crops with not a cloud in the sky. It is a look of sheer, controlled desperation. Can't argue with heaven and you can't explain it to the bank.

Grown up clothes @ Palisade Brewing - Travis Meadows
Like all too many people from the past couple generations, I was raised by my Mom and my Grandmother. For Moms that are doing it alone I want to applaud you vigorously. If yours is like my Mommas was, you got your hands full.
Dad left when I was 3 , just like his left when he was an infant. I have 4 kids and truth be told they were raised by their mothers as well. I was always around but we lived in different houses and sometimes different states.I did what I thought was the best I could and thankfully they're all wonderful, responsible people. I comforted myself in having done better than my predecessors but I know it still left a hole in their hearts ,and in mine for every day we were apart. I'll give anything if the buck can stop here.
Palisade Head Wedding - Lake Superior Elopement
Palisade Head Wedding - Lake Superior Elopement
This Palisade Head wedding was perhaps unlike any other wedding we have ever shot, in the best way possible. When we sat down with Sara and Matt to chat about there big day we were instantly on board with their amazing plans, and this Lake Superior wedding lived up to all of our expectations!
THE BRIDE AND GROOM
Sara and Matt are two awesome people, and it was so visible throughout their entire day. They knew exactly what they wanted their day to look like, and they made it happen! They ditched the norm, and made the day their own, surrounded with their closest friends atop a cliff in northern Minnesota. To make things even better, Matt owns Paddle North, an outdoors company focused on stand up paddle boarding, so they made sure to hop on boards throughout the day in the scenic Lake Superior waters!
THE VENUE – PALISADE HEAD WEDDING – LAKE SUPERIOR, MINNESOTA
I don’t think we could come up with a better setting for a wedding ceremony. Palisade Head is along the north short, atop a cliff overlooking Lake Superior. The view is fantastic, and the entire surrounding area is incredibly picturesque.
THE WEDDING – LAKE SUPERIOR WEDDING
This Palisade Head wedding started off at the Bluefin Bay resort, just a bit north of Palisade Head. Matt and his guys started the morning by going stand up paddle boarding in the chilly Lake Superior water. The setting was unreal, with fog lifting up off of the water, making it look like they were paddling through clouds.
Meanwhile, Sara and her girls hung out, and spent a casual morning getting ready for the events to come! From there everyone left for Palisade Head, where Matt waited out on the cliff to see Sara in her beautiful dress for the first time! After these two shared their first look, everyone made their way to a little wall on the cliff to witness a ceremony that was just perfect for Sara and Matt. These two were married by their good friend in a ceremony that was relaxed and serious at the same time.
The ceremony was followed by a champagne toast with their close friends, and a first dance atop a huge boulder. Then Sara, Matt, and a few friends drove south to a black sand beach where they each hopped on a paddle board (in their tux and dress!).
The fun didn’t end there however. Sara and Matt kept this day a secret, and invited all of their friends and family back in Minneapolis to a wedding a couple months later. Everyone in attendance thought they were coming to a wedding ceremony, but when they arrived, this video played and guests were invited to join the party!
We can’t thank Sara and Matt enough for trusting us to capture their Palisade Head wedding, and tell their story. It is safe to say that this Lake Superior Wedding is one of our favorites to date, and we were so happy to be a part of it!

Western Slope Tour: Timber, Peaches and Fish
What do timber, peaches and fish have in common? The answer is jobs. Watch this video of Mark Udall's tour of the Western Slope to learn more.
Monday, August 8, Mark Udall was in Grand Junction to visit the Upper Colorado River Endangered Fish Recovery Program, a partnership between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Reclamation, and state and local interests aimed at endangered fish recovery and water development. The historic roller-gate Grand Valley Diversion Dam at the site is one of only four such dams in the country. Later, Udall went to Palisade to meet with the Mesa Land Trust and Mesa County Commissioners to discuss conservation easements, which help to keep local farms, forests and ranches in private ownership and to preserve open spaces and critical wildlife habitat.
Tuesday, August 9, Udall toured the Wayne Aspinall Federal Building and Courthouse, which has been renovated to become the country's first net-zero energy usage building on the National Register of Historic Places. Udall then went to Delta, where he toured of the Delta Timber mill. In light of the Forest Service's decision to rework legacy timber contracts and preserve forest management jobs, Udall met with members of Colorado's timber industry to discuss remaining issues and to tour the mill's operations to process beetle-killed trees. Udall wrapped up the day with a roundtable discussion with Rio Blanco and Garfield county commissioners and the mayor of Rifle to talk about how he can help the Western Slope get about $17 million that is still owed to counties to address the impacts caused by the oil and gas development at the Anvil Points Naval Oil Shale Reserve prior to its closing.
Colorado. Proud to live here. Proud to work here
The oil and natural gas industry is woven into the fabric of our history and has served as a core pillar of our economy since before statehood. We are as Colorado as Palisade peaches, Coors beer and the Denver Broncos. As a foundational element of our society, our products touch nearly every aspect of our daily lives. To celebrate our great state, we go on a uniquely Colorado adventure to show all of the fun activities that can be squeezed into a single day thanks to our oil and natural gas industry.

Can Adventurers Be Gardeners!!??
We were excited to learn that a nearby church offered up some land to be used as a community garden. This spring we started a whole bunch of vegetables from seed at home. Most of them did really well. We haven't seen our garden in a while since we have been going on weekly adventures.
How did our garden fare?

How Dollar Stores Really Make Their Money
Every year, dollar stores see higher and higher earnings, but how can a store that seems like it's giving things away turn itself into a multi-billion-dollar enterprise? The answer is simple: that dollar isn't always the great deal it appears to be. Here are their secrets.
Whether times are good or bad, you can still count on people to flock to dollar stores because they have the one thing everyone loves: convenience. Sales for Dollar General are always on the upswing, with the chain seeing an increase of 3.7 percent between 2017 and 2018, regardless of the state of the economy. Take it from Dollar General CEO Todd Vasos, who had this to say about their regular customers:
We have seen no sign of trade out or trade up from our core customers. Even in a good economy, [they are] still looking for value and convenience.
So, basically, no matter how much money people have, they still want something that bigger grocery stores can't give them. Dollar stores are not just convenient because their items are cheaper, but also because there seems to be one on every corner — and that makes them perfect for a quick fill-in trip between your weekly grocery runs. These stores are also typically smaller than the ones in a big chain like Walmart, which means that you can usually get in and out with your emergency bag of dog food, a handful of snacks, or supplies for your kid's art project in just a couple of minutes. The fact that most people are on to this, means dollar stores are always making money — even if customers buy just a few things.
Watch the video to learn how dollar stores really make their money!
