A tour of Denver's historic Paramount Theatre
Denver's Paramount Theatre was built by Temple Buell for Publix Theatres in 1930. The Paramount Theatre instantly surpassed the standards of the dozens of theatres that lined the streets of Denver at the time and is the only local theatre from that era that's maintained its original dignity and glamour - it's an excellent illustration of Art Deco design and craftsmanship from that age of theatres.
Denver's Paramount Theatre is also home to the Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ, one of the last three remaining organs of its kind to reside in its original environment. Throughout this recording you can hear the pipe organ and, at about 0:57 get a glimpse of it being played off in the distance on the stage.

History of Denver and more at
Denver the largest city and the capital of the U.S. state of Colorado. Denver is also the second most populous county in Colorado after El Paso County. Denver is a consolidated city and county located in the South Platte River Valley on the western edge of the High Plains just east of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. The Denver downtown district is located immediately east of the confluence of Cherry Creek with the South Platte River, approximately 12 miles (19 km) east of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
Denver is nicknamed the Mile-High City because its official elevation is exactly one mile or 5,280 feet (1,609.344 m) above sea level, making it one of the highest major cities in the United States. The 105th meridian west of Greenwich passes through Union Station and is the temporal reference for the Mountain Time Zone.
The 2011 estimated population of Denver was 619,968 which ranks it as the 23rd most populous U.S. city. The 10-county Denver-Aurora-Broomfield, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area had an estimated 2011 population of 2,599,504 and ranked as the 21st most populous U.S. metropolitan statistical area.
The 12-county Denver-Aurora-Boulder Combined Statistical Area had an estimated 2011 population of 3,157,520 and ranked as the 16th most populous U.S. primary census statistical area.
Denver is the center and the most populous city of the Front Range Urban Corridor, an oblong urban region stretching across 18 counties in two states with an estimated 2011 population of 4,423,936.
Denver is the most populous city within a 500-mile (800 km) radius and the second most populous city in the Mountain West and the Southwestern United States after Phoenix, Arizona.

Tribute to Maureen O'Sullivan: Anytime, Anyday, Anywhere
Maureen Paula O'Sullivan (17 May 1911 – 23 June 1998) was an Irish actress best known for playing Jane in the Tarzan series of films starring Johnny Weissmuller. O'Sullivan's film career began when she met motion picture director Frank Borzage who was doing location filming on Song o' My Heart for 20th Century Fox. He suggested she take a screen test. She did and won a part in the movie, which starred Irish tenor John McCormack. She traveled to the United States to complete the movie in Hollywood. O'Sullivan appeared in six movies at Fox, then made three more at other movie studios.
In 1932, she signed a contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. After several roles there and at other movie studios, she was chosen by Irving Thalberg to appear as Jane Parker in Tarzan the Ape Man, opposite co-star Johnny Weissmuller. She was one of the more popular ingenues at MGM throughout the 1930s and appeared in a number of other productions with various stars. In all, O'Sullivan played Jane in six features between 1932 and 1942.
She also starred with William Powell and Myrna Loy in The Thin Man (1934) and played Kitty in Anna Karenina (1935) with Greta Garbo and Basil Rathbone. She appeared as Molly Beaumont in A Yank at Oxford (1938), which was written partly by F. Scott Fitzgerald. At her request, he rewrote her part to give it substance and novelty.
She played another Jane in Pride and Prejudice (1940) with Laurence Olivier and Greer Garson, and supported Ann Sothern in Maisie Was a Lady (1941). After appearing in Tarzan's New York Adventure (1942), O'Sullivan asked MGM to release her from her contract so she could care for her husband who had just left the Navy with typhoid. She retreated from show business, devoting her time to her family. In 1948, she re-appeared on the screen in The Big Clock, directed by her husband for Paramount Pictures. She continued to appear occasionally in her husband's movies and on television. However, by 1960 she believed she had permanently retired. In 1958, Farrow's and O'Sullivan's eldest son, Michael, died in a plane crash in California.
Actor Pat O'Brien encouraged her to take a part in summer stock, and the play A Roomful of Roses opened in 1961. That led to another play, Never Too Late, in which she co-starred with Paul Ford in what was her Broadway debut. Shortly after it opened on Broadway John Farrow died of a heart attack. O'Sullivan stuck with acting after Farrow's death: she was the Today Girl for NBC for a while, then made the movie version of Never Too Late (1965) for Warner Bros.. She was also an executive director of a bridal consulting service, Wediquette International. In June and July 1972, O'Sullivan was in Denver, Colorado, to star in the Elitch Theatre production of Butterflies are Free with Karen Grassle and Brandon deWilde. The show ended on July 1, 1972. Five days later (on July 6, 1972), while still in Denver, deWilde was killed in a motor vehicle accident.
When her daughter, actress Mia Farrow, became involved with Woody Allen both professionally and romantically, she appeared in Hannah and Her Sisters, playing Farrow's mother. She had roles in Peggy Sue Got Married (1986) and the science fiction oddity Stranded (1987). Mia Farrow named one of her own sons Satchel Ronan O'Sullivan Farrow for her mother.

In 1994, O'Sullivan appeared with Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers in Hart to Hart: Home Is Where the Hart Is, a feature-length made-for-TV movie with the wealthy husband-and-wife team from the popular weekly detective series Hart to Hart.

Don Baker - NY Paramount Theatre Organ - Deep Purple (1942)
Deep Purple
Music by Peter De Rose
Performed by Don Baker on the NY Paramount Organ
March 3, 1942
Columbia 36626
Peter De Rose and His wife, May Singhi Breen, had an early morning radio program on NBC. Breen played the ukulele while De Rose accompanied her on the piano; they both sang in harmony. They were known as the Sweethearts of the Air. Paul Whiteman, a close friend of De Rose, had heard Peter repeat a short piano phrase during a radio broadcast. When Whiteman asked him what that tune was, De Rose explained it was not a song but a finger exercise. Whiteman told him he wanted to use it in his next concert and commissioned him for the arrangement. De Rose missed the deadline for the concert but eventually completed the composition as Deep Purple and Whiteman ultimately recorded it in 1934 with His concert orchestra. The arrangement included a second tune which was later published as Lilacs in the Rain. The vocal edition with lyrics by Mitchell Parish was released in 1939.
The Don Baker organ arrangement of Deep Purple is patterned after the Paul Whiteman version in that it includes the phrases from the song Lilacs in the Rain.
Don Baker was born in St. Thomas, Ontario Canada in 1903. There he studied piano at the Mount Royal Conservatory and in 1925 was hired as a demonstrator and a teacher at the Wurlitzer Music store in New York City. His first theatre job was at the Brooklyn Paramount playing noon and dinner-hour concerts for the moviegoers. An opportunity to perform in England resulted in weekly broadcasts over the BBC, and performances at five of the Bernstein Theatres. After 18 months in England he returned to the United States and was hired as staff organist at radio station WOR in New York City. He then moved to the Paramount Theatre and played on bills featuring top big bands headed by Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman and others. After New York City, Baker went on to the Hollywood Palladium where Freddie Martin, Harry James and other Big Bands were featured attractions. In 1949 he moved to Las Vegas and performed at the Last Frontier. In the late 1950s, he became a touring artist for Conn Organs. In 1964 he returned to New York to play the final concert at the Paramount Theatre. He resided in Nevada until 1974 performing in Reno and Lake Tahoe. In 1974 he moved to Clearwater, Florida where he spent his final years. He died on 26 June 1989 in Leesburg, Florida.
