Katie Parla's Rome: The Jewish Ghetto
As far back as the 2nd century B.C.E., Jews have made their home in Rome and represent the oldest Jewish community in the world outside Israel. What we recognize today as Roman Jewish cooking is fruit of universal Jewish dietary guidelines and, perhaps most importantly, the community’s forced isolation into a gated ghetto for 300 years, which resulted in a unique spin on traditional Italian and Jewish cuisine, using what limited ingredients were available. Additionally, the cuisine reflects many outsider influences—result of the Jewish diaspora of the 15th century as direct result of the Spanish Inquisition, and again in the 1960s when thousands of Jews fleeing Libya settled in Rome.

ROME FOOD TOUR | STREET FOOD IN ITALY
We're in Rome, Italy! In this 3 part series we're exploring Italy's capital city to hunt down the best local food. Rome has a distinct cuisine- one based on nose to tail eating, punchy bold flavours, fresh ingredients prepared simply and they love their street food.
This is our third video from Rome and we're eating street food plus showing you some traditional Roman foods. We start in the Jewish Ghetto and visit one of the most historic pastry shops in the city to sample their ricotta and cherry cake. This kosher bakery is famous for their cake which features creamy ricotta, wild sour cherries and a crumbly pastry. Next up we head to a heritage, hole in the wall spot serving porchetta- a whole pig which is de-boned, seasoned, rubbed with rosemary, rolled and roasted. Er Buchetto is a 6th generation shop which brings its porchetta in from Arricia- a village outside of Rome famous for its porchetta. We eat a porchetta panino- slices of juicy pork stuffed into a crusty roll. It is SENSATIONAL. It's then time for a long lunch of pasta at a neighbourhood trattoria which does the best pasta we ate in our week long stay in Rome. Finally it's off to a Roman pizza joint to sample the classic thin and crispy Roman pizza. What a day of eating! We hope you enjoyed our Rome food tour! #rome #italy #romefoodtour

Rome, The Eternal City | Mother-Daughter Rome Vlog
Hi fellow travelers (and lovers of ROME),
If you have been following along with my mom, sisters, and I, you will know that we started our trip in the Eternal City, and so of course we are also ending our trip in beautiful ROME. I absolutely love this city, and after seeing Lake Como, and Venice, we were thrilled to return once more to this epic city. We stayed in Trastevere this time around, and had a beautiful dinner at one of our favourite restaurants (and one that we ate at last year) Da Enzo (al 29). This meal was simply fantastic as we enjoyed typical Roman eats, such as Cacio e Pepe, Carbonara, Saltimbocca, as well as the most delicious Burrata (which was more similar to a Stracciatella), Fried Artichoke, and a Mussel pasta that was heavenly! We finished the meal off with my favourite Mascarpone and wild strawberry mousse, as well as Tiramisu! Since this was our last few days in Italy before we headed back home to Toronto we really ate everything in sight. The food in Italy, especially Rome is just too delicious to worry about dieting (haha)! We ate a famous ricotta cake at a pastry shop called Pasticceria Boccione, had more gelati than we can count, and of course grabbed pizza al taglio at Roscioli, as well as another 'street-food' favourite of ours at Trappizzino. We explored Trastevere a bit, as well as Villa Borghese. However, the most EPIC end to our trip can be found when we had a farewell cheers on this amazing rooftop terrace called Terrazza Borromini. This terrace was truly stunning and offered one of the most amazing sunsets over Rome I have ever seen. It can be found in Piazza Navona and is truly something everyone should try to experience before leaving Rome. We had the most amazing trip, not only in Rome but also in Lake Como and Venice, so I will link that Italy 2018 Mother-Daughter playlist here as well:

Until next time, I hope you enjoyed following my mom, sisters, and I during our travels. If you did, I would be happy to make more vlogs in the future.

MAY 09, 2019
This was our last day in Rome, and we decided to take it easy. We went to an orange garden, which also served as a lookout point, and the neighboring rose garden. We then ventured to place our hands in the Mouth of Truth.
Also, we didn't rave about these on camera, but the pizza we had at La Pizza (aka Pizza Florida) was hands down the best we have ever had, and the maritozzo panna piccolo was in our top five of favorite foods from this trip. I'm sad that we'll never be able to find a creamy tuna pizza like that where we live.
Thanks for watching!
