Rain Forest Hike at Juneau Alaska
Juneau, Alaska is the second stop for cruise ships as they head north from Vancouver. The nearby Mendenhall Glacier is a popular tourist destination, and for a 4 ½ hour hike through the adjacent temperate rain forest, Gastineau Guiding offers a “Guide’s Choice Adventure Hike” in the Tongass National Forest. Along the East Glacier Loop Trail, mosses blanket boulders and tree stumps, all sheltered by 100-200 year-old conifers. As the trail ascends into the rain forest, wooden stairs help bridge steep uphill sections. Finally, a clear outcrop area give a panoramic view of the Mendenhall Glacier far below.

Twin peaks trail - ALASKA
The Twin Peaks trailhead can be reached by walking away from Eklutna Lake and crossing Thachkatnu Creek and heading up the mountain. The trail winds up the East Twin Peak at a fairly steep elevation for most of the hike. Views of Eklutna Lake can be seen for the entire hike; but doesn't really become worthwhile until you get above the tree line.

4th Graders and Families do Trail work on the Bridger-Teton National Forest
Families with 4th graders from across the western United States have been invited by Governor Matt Mead to participate in the first-ever Great Outdoors Western Campout. These families camped in Grand Teton National Park June 10-15, 2016 and experienced many different outdoors activities in the Jackson Hole area, permitted by the Bridger-Teton National Forest. The families helped with Trail work on the Bridger-Teton National Forest. This event celebrates Great Outdoors Month® and the National Park Service Centennial, as well as coincide with the Western Governors Association (WGA) summer meeting, where the social and economic impact of outdoor recreation was a major topic.

Mendenhall Glacier Tour & Hiking - Beautiful Nuggets Falls Waterfall & Photo Point Trail (4K)
The highlight of Juneau Alaska was the amazing Mendenhall Glacier & hiking trails. We took the short trek to the Photo Point trail, and then it was a 25 minute or so hike to the incredible Nuggets Falls waterfall. The ambiance of being next to a powerful waterfall was pretty exhilarating, and yet zen as well when we were a bit farther way. The sound of the waterfall became a tranquil presence. We also enjoyed views of the calm, icy glacial waters of Mendenhall Lake.
The Nugget Falls trails was pretty interesting itself and made us feel a bit like explorers. There was a warning about bears, but thankfully we didn't encounter one. We saw a plaque for Romeo the Friendly Black Wolf. I researched his story and it was pretty touching, so it was nice to see the wolf remembered in such a way.
We also made a video of the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor's center which you can see here:
Hike to Upper Silvis Lake in Ketchikan, Alaska
6 mile round trip hike to Upper Silvis Lake - the 1st 2+ miles to the inlet of Lower Silvis Lake is along a well-groomed logging road - the remainder of the trail is a combination of wet/muddy trail and boardwalk.
The Long Range Traverse - Part 1
My friend Mike and I finally do the Long Range Traverse hike in Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland, Canada. We hiked over 50km in 4 days through some of the most beautiful country I've ever seen.
This first part of the video contains day one and two of the hike.
Burgess Trail
One of the great Hikes in the Canadian Rockies is Burgess Trail located in Yoho National Park. It is breath taking and takes you high above Emerald Lake. It is about a 9 hour hike with the first hour steady incline. And the last 3 hours pretty steady down. It also takes you just below the Burgess Shale. It is about 45 minutes from Vagabond Lodge at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort.

TONGASS NATIONAL RAINFOREST HIKE | KETCHIKAN | ALASKA | USA
The offshore excursion that I did at our first stop, Ketchikan, was the Tongass National Rainforest Hike. This activity was roughly 2 hours long and can be done by people from all walks of life.
Please note: There are different hikes at different stops and I cannot comment on who can or cannot do those hikes as I personally didn't do them. Please follow the guide suggested by the staff for those.
