Cooking & Adventure on the Islands of Sicily
More info at:
This adventure of a lifetime starts on the tiny Sicilian island of Favignana, where we will stay on our own private peninsula surrounded by crystalline waters and rocky cliffs. Our four cooking classes will focus on traditional Sicilian home cooking, while our sightseeing will take us to wineries in Marsala, the Salt Flats of Trapani, and beautiful Erice. We'll get to know the locals as we explore true Sicilian tradition on days packed with amazing experiences, such as casting nets at sea with local fishermen, harvesting salt, swimming in crystal-clear grottoes, cheese-making with a local shepherd, and much more.
Amuri: The Sacred Flavors of Sicily
Directed by Palermo-born Giacomo Costa, AMURI is a year's journey through the colorful cuisine of five religious festivals across the island. This is a Sicily rarely seen by outsiders, a Sicily where it is the bread-kneading grandmother and the village priest in the camera’s focus. AMURI is an intimate portrait of the culinary and religious traditions at the center of the Sicilian spirit, traditions that have outlasted centuries of invasion, earthquake and corruption. From the sculptural breads of Saint Joseph day in March, to the castanet-like clatter of snails cooked in Palermo for Santa Rosalia in July, the documentary takes viewers on a mouth-watering tour around Sicily.

MSC Meraviglia Cruise Review: Palermo Street Food Tour
We are in Palermo on day two of our incredible MSC Meraviglia Mediterranean Cruise.

Palermo is considered Sicily's cultural, economic and tourism capital. It's known for its rich history, culture, art, and music. More importantly for our visit Palermo is known for food! Today we are going to dig into Palermo's street food with a foodie style walking tour. We booked the Palermo street food walking tour with the super nice folks at Streaty. The tour is about 3 hours and explores the local markets of Capo and Vucciria and all kinds of cool things along the way. The first order of business is finding our way from the Meraviglia to the Teatro Massimo where we'll meet up with our guide, Angelo. It was about a 15 minute walk from the port, and we only had to ask for directions one time. Shortly after finding Angelo, he gave us our Streaty Palermo Food Passport, and we were off on our culinary adventure. We made our way through the streets of Palermo stopping at beautiful markets with amazing fruits and vegetables. Along the way, Angelo entertained us with interesting non-touristy details about the city's history, culture, food and more. There were many food filled stops on the tour, but a few of the notable food highlights include arancini, pane con la milza (pani cà meusa), and of course cannoli with ricotta cream. The tour finishes up at ends in piazza San Domenico with a stop for sweet dessert. This was truly a beautiful day, and great excursion. We recommend this tour for adventurous eaters, foodies, or anyone that just wants to have fun and explore Palermo.
You can check out Streaty here:
There’s MUCH more to come on this journey as we continue our European cruise to Valetta (Malta), Barcelona (Spain), Marseille (France) and Genoa (Italy) so STAY TUNED!
