The Pieterpad is a long distance walking route in the Netherlands. The trail runs 490 kilometres from Pieterburen, in the northern part of Groningen, south through the eastern part of the Netherlands to end just... south of Maastricht, on the top of Mount Saint Peter (St Pietersberg), at a height of 109 metres (358 ft). The Pieterpad is one of the official Long Distance Paths in the Netherlands (Lange Afstand Wandelpad Nummer 9) and by far the most popular of its long distance walking routes.

Pieterpad 2019 Etappe 1-2-3 (Pieterburen-Winsum-Groningen-Zuidlaren)
Afgelopen Pinksteren was het zover, de start van het Pieterpad is nu echt een feit! De eerste drie etappes zitten in de benen ????????.
Zaterdag onze eerste etappe van Pieterburen naar Winsum, we hebben enorm genoten van de eerste 12 kilometer, harde wind, plensbuien, hier en daar een zonnestraal, Hollandser kan gewoon niet. Het volgen van de wit met rode markeringen, het scannen van de paaltjes of we goed lopen, het is allemaal heel goed aangegeven.
Onze trouwe viervoeter was ook mee, onze hond (Noortje) kan helaas niet zo’n lange wandelingen meer maken, maar dat mag de pret niet drukken, onze dame mag dan lekker in de buggy uitrusten terwijl wij haar duwen. Ook dat is leuk en soms op sommige stukken uitdagend, maar dat vinden wij leuk ☺️
Op de zondag hebben we de tweede etappe gelopen van Winsum naar Groningen, ook de deze wandeling was super leuk. Veel mooie bruggetjes en dieren gezien. Alleen op deze route was het niet echt mogelijk om ergens een plasje te doen, dus heel erg blij toen we in de stad aankwamen, maar voordat we toen de eerst mogelijke opties kregen duurde wel heeeeel erg lang, maar goed alles duurt lang als je heel erg moet plassen ????
Maandag, derde etappe van Groningen naar Zuidlaren! Deze etappe ging een stukje door de bossen, dat is altijd mooi ???????????? en wat is Zuidlaren een mooi dorpje, daar was het heel erg levendig, het bruiste van de gezelligheid... maar het was ook weer tijd na deze drie dagen om naar huis te gaan.
We hebben al met al enorm genoten. We verbleven twee nachten in Eenrum in een hele leuke accommodatie, een pipowagen. Super geregeld en een hele lieve spontane gastvrouw????
Kortom, wij zijn nu ook verslaafd ???????? en we vinden deze pagina heel leuk om te volgen met alle leuke verhalen die iedereen hier deelt.

Our second day walk. This time we walked from Rolde to Schoonloo. 18 km. And again we did enjoy all the beauty from our own country. This is in the province of Drenthe.
Those stones are Dolmens:
Between 3350 and 3050 BC. built dolmens are the oldest architectural monuments in the Netherlands, and a favorite symbol and logo of Drenthe. The name: Huynh- or dolmens 'and ' Their Mountain were traditionally in the eastern Netherlands and northwest Germany common names for barrows and especially the stone tombs of the Funnel Beaker Culture (also Cairns and Steenbergen were called).

This is the last trip from the route. We started this walking adventure last year april and today we finished it.

Wouter Huitzing: Pieterpad 498km FKT!
Wouter Huitzing is an ultra runner with some pedigree. Winning the Montane Spine Challenger in 2018 with a new course record and 2nd in 2019! Starting on Easter weekend Wouter set out to run 498km to set a fastest known time to complete the Pieterpad trail in his native Netherlands!
Wouter is perhaps still better known in adventure racing but has found his competitive edge in ultra running. This is a great chat with a really lovely guy! He even brought some stroopwaffles to share :-)
