On Good Friday, we went to Piha beach, Piha beach is a popular place in the west Auckland. It was cloudy, we walked along the stream for half a hour and reached Kitekite falls, It was quite challenging but fun at the same time. The track along the way was very muddy and slippery! We also climbed lion rock as well and had a great view of the scenery from the top of it. We had a great day.

Piha is New Zealand's most famous surf beach. Situated on the west coast of the North Island, 40 kms from the city of Auckland, this black iron-sand beach has a reputation for awesome surf which rolls in over the Tasman Sea.
Piha is a scenic black-sand surf beach on the rugged coast west of Auckland. There are several walks through native forest in the surrounding hills. It is popular with local kiwis - especially in summertime. The dramatic beach, which is marked at each end by rugged cliffs, is a popular surfing location. The water has strong and often dangerous currents. However, in summer, surf lifesavers patrol an area clearly flagged for swimmers.

Surfing in New Zealand Piha Bar

Piha Bar is one of New Zealand's most iconic surf spots.
While only 40 minutes drive from downtown Auckland, the 'Bar' can be difficult to predict due to fast moving swells coming out of the Tasman Sea. The unpredictable shape of the wave means it is possible to get lucky and enjoy world class waves with only a handful of other surfers out. Access to the break through the cave in Taitomo Island is for advanced surfers only.

Je m'appelle Julien Calabro, je suis né dans le sud de la France et j'ai commencé à voyager en Europe avec ma famille à l'âge de 12 ans. J'ai tellement aimé que mes seules pensées concernaient les voyages. A 21 ans, j'ai déménagé à Paris où j'ai vécu par moi-même pendant environ 5 ans. Pendant ce temps, le rythme de mes voyages a très rapidement augmenté. Je suis allé à New York et au Canada, puis pour la première fois en Asie en 2012. Je suis aussi allé au Maroc en Afrique en 2014. Après tous ces voyages, ma vie a beaucoup changé et je me sentais déprimé lorsque je travaillais en France. À 27 ans, j'ai pris une décision radicale et j'ai quitté mon emploi, mon appartement, puis mon pays ... J'ai déménagé à Sydney en Australie pendant environ deux ans, puis à Auckland, la plus grande ville de Nouvelle-Zélande. Je ne sais pas ce que je vais faire et où je serai demain, mais j'aime ma vie de hasard autour du monde.

My name is Julien Calabro, I was born in the south of France and I strarted to travel around Europe with my family when I was 12 years old. I enjoyed it so much my only thoughts were about travel. At 21 I moved to Paris where I lived by myself for about 5 years. During that time, the pace of my travels has very rapidly increased. I have been to New York, and Canada, then for the first time in Asia in 2012. I also went to Morocco in Africa in 2014. After all these trips my life has been changed a lot and I feeled depressed when I was working in France. At 27 years old I took a radical decision and left my job, my flat and then, my country... I moved to Sydney in Australia for about 2 years, and then now, in Auckland, the biggest city of New Zealand. I don't know what I will do and where I will be tomorrow, but I love my random life around the world.

New Zealand Honeymoon || Hiking on the coast, Lion Rock, Piha Beach - I TURN 30!!

November 6, 2019
I turn 30! And to start off my birthday, Owen made me breakfast at our AirBnb in Bethell's Beach before we headed to the coast for a hike. The hike is called Mercer Bay Loop Trail and we got to see stunning views of the coast.

Then we went to Piha Beach and saw Lion Rock while dipping our feet in the FREEZING cold water. We watched some people surf while we laid out on our his and hers blankets. I got some local coffee to go before heading to our AirBnb to get ready for my birthday dinner.

Owen surprised me and took us to an incredible dinner at The Hunting Lodge. And the dinner ended with a massive cake we didn't even attempt to finish.

Our night was finished with a hot tub soak under the stars and another reminder of how beautiful New Zealand is.

Piha Beach is the most famous surf beach in Auckland, New Zealand. Located on the west coast of the North Island, 40 kms from the city, this black iron-sand beach has a reputation for awesome surf which rolls in over the Tasman Sea. It can be moody, misty and mysterious, wild, wet and wind-swept. A place suited for nature-loving and adventurous people.
The accommodation and expenses is affordable. We stayed in Piha Beachstay ($89 for couple) where you can bring and prepare your own food.

”Lion Rock is a natural formation dividing North and South Piha beaches. It is an eroded 16-million-year-old volcanic neck,[2] named for its similarity to a lying male lion when viewed from the rear (shore side), Lion Rock is immediately visible to visitors as they descend along the only access road. Lion Rock has become iconic not only of Piha, but of Auckland's West Coast in general. It was featured on stamps as well as an Auckland phone book.“
