For centuries Pilot Mountain has served as a landmark for Native Americans, early explorers, and migrating wildlife. This iconic peak is the most recognizable mountain in North Carolina and forms the centerpiece of Pilot Mountain State Park. Rising to an elevation of 2421 feet, this solitary quartzite mountain, part of the ancient Sauratown Mountain range, was dedicated a National Natural Landmark and now serves as a beacon to hikers, rock climbers, and nature lovers.
A 6.5 mile wooded corridor trail joins the Mountain Section of the park with the Yadkin River Section which includes the north and south side of the river and a dozen small islands. This scenic section of the Yadkin provides hiking trails, fishing, and includes a canal wall built in 1825 that was designed to deliver boat traffic above the rocky shoals that form islands in this portion of the river.
Since 1968, a portion of the wild Piedmont and a geological wonder has been preserved for you to enjoy at Pilot Mountain State Park.

WHY DID WE START VLOGGING? Our unexpected viral wedding video pushed us to start posting videos more! Arianna started with cover songs and after doing the Husband Tag with Ryan, we were asked to vlog. So we decided to try it and we LOVE it 4 years later. We now post 5 vlogs a week Monday-Friday.
ARIANNA HAD A SERVICE DOG? Arianna had a service dog for 7 years. Levi has now since passed away. Arianna has PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) from her child and teen years.
CHANNEL NAME CHANGE? Formerly we were ThePflederers then ThePfledPfam. We are forever now, It's Us. It's easier to remember, easier to say, and easier to spell. We feel it truly depicts our channel as well. It's us who are the change in the world. It's us who have control over our story. Authentic vlogs is what we strive for while also showing you guys that it is okay to dream and go against the norm and reach for something bigger.
WHY DID WE MOVE STATES? We used to live in Illinois and moved to North Carolina in September of 2017. Ryan found a job opportunity that he could not pass up! We had been wanting to move out of Illinois for years and we felt God was really calling us to NC and specifically for him to take this job.

Pilot Mountain to Hanging Rock 50 miler 2018
My PM2HR experience caught in pics and video snippets. This year 6 miles had to be cut from the start due to so many downed trees from Hurricane Micheal. As a result start line was moved to the 50k and additional 2+ miles added as a re-route. Total estimated length was 46 miles (believe me I wasn't missing those extra 4 mi!). Gorgeous day with start temps in the lower 50s and never hotter than upper 60s. Incredible job by Trivium racing to pull this off so close to having had a major storm come through! Official chip time 10:55:39. 39th out of 62 runners.
Pinnacle, Pisgah National Forest, NC
Panorama from Pinnacle, one of my favorite peaks in North Carolina. Located north of Montreat between Graybeard Mt. and the Black Mountains this peak is relatively unknown and requires a demanding hike. Tough lighting and old smartphone combine for poor quality, I apologize. Read about the hike here

Amazing Winter Drive! - NC Highway 105 & Wiseman's View
Old NC 105 is one of the hidden gems of scenic driving in the Eastern United States. The sometimes rough dirt road twists and turns its way along the western rim of the rugged Linville Gorge, with amazing views of Shortoff Mountain, Lake James, the Catawba Valley, Spence Ridge, the Chimneys, Table Rock, Hawksbill Mountain and much more. It's a wild and surprising ride that's best taken when the leaves are off the trees so you can peek at the jagged landscapes to the east, and the higher Appalachians to the west. In this video I show the drive up from the Paddy's Creek end where the pavement ends on the southeast, and continue up to the popular Wiseman's view, where many people claim to have seen the mysterious Brown Mountain Lights. I end up with some views from Wiseman's View shot with my GoPro Hero 3 on the end of a 13-foot golf ball retriever. Still shots were taken with a Nikon D5100. Hope this makes everyone want to come experience western North Carolina - even in the dead of winter!
Here are coordinates for where this video starts - at the end of the paved road on Old NC 105: +35°47'29.88, -81°55'17.22

Mt. Mitchell - North Carolina
Mount Mitchell State Park is located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway near Asheville, North Carolina. The park and the mountain are named in honor of Dr. Elisha Mitchell who in 1835 determined it to be the highest mountain east of the Mississippi River. Mt. Mitchell is 6,684 above sea level. Dr. Mitchell has a place of honor at the summit where he was laid to rest.
Hiking Medoc Mountain State Park near Hollister, North Carolina
Medoc Mountain State Park is located near the town of Hollister in Halifax County, north eastern North Carolina. Medoc Mountain is not really a mountain at all, but just a long, low ridge. There are about 10 miles of hiking trails in this small park. In this video, I start out leaving the Visitor Center on the Bear Creek Swamp Trail and eventually connecting with the Summit Loop Trail, passing by Bear Creek Swamp and the Little Fishing Creek along the way. Along the Summit Loop we climb to the high point of Medoc Mountain and also get great views of Little Fishing Creek. Thanks so much for watching!
