Western Australia's Pink Lake threatened by tourist boom | 7.30
Since 2014, there's been an big increase in the number of tourists visiting Hutt Lagoon, otherwise known as Pink Lake, near Geraldton. Busloads arrive every day to pose for photos or chartered flights let people take in the breathtaking views. But locals are worried about the impact.

A lake in Australia has become an attraction for tourists and travel magazines, because of its unusual pink color. Lake Hillier is a salt lake on an island off the south coast of Western Australia. The color is thought to come from green micro-algae and bacteria in the water.

The Great Salt Lake is Pink! And who would have thought that floating in the Great Salt Lake would be so much fun?!?! If you want to visit Utah, this is definitely a must!
We spent the day with some of Bri's high-school friends from Wisconsin. What a blast! We highly recommend that you visit this.
If you want to see the pink water, you'll need to visit the north side of the lake during August - September. We always go to the Spiral Jetty for the best access. The lake may also be pink at other times.
Also, if you want to float in the lake the south side is much less salty. You can still float, but the north side is almost twice as salty.

PINK LAKE???? We found a pink lake in Australia! (WESTERN AUSTRALIA ROAD TRIP Part 3)
Stop #3 on our Western Australia road trip as we stumbled across a pink lake in Port Gregory 6 hours north of Perth! Hutt Lagoon's iconic colouring comes from the presence of the caroteinoid-producing algae, dunaliella salina - which is a source of beta-carotene; a food-colouring agent and a great source of Vitamin A.
We then travelled another hour and half to Kablarri National Park where we saw the sandstone cliffs and river gorges!
