driving downtown Pompeii, Italy
Circumvesuviana Trains - Naples (Italy)
Circumvesuviana operates narrow gauge train service around the base of Mount Vesuvius. Train services include Naples to Sorrento, Sarno (two routes), Baiano and Acerra.
Circumvesuviana is a convenient way to reach Pompeii (stops: Pompei Scavi Villa Misteri or Pompei ) and Herculaneum (stop: Ercolano Scavi) from the central railway station in Naples (Stazione Centrale).
Southern Italia (Capri, Napoli, Amalfi, Positano, Sorrento, Pompeii)
Pictures from our wonderful trip to Southern Italy (Capri, Amalfi, Sorrento, Positano, Pompeii & Naples) put to music. This video is 23 mins in length. Sorry I couldn't get it to 10 mins. There were way too many great pictures so I had to include them all :) We stayed on Capri at the Hotel Weber Ambassador and traveled back and forth by Hydro ferry from Capri to Naples. Wonderful Hotel. When visiting Amalfi we took a guided tour which I purchased as part of my vacation package through Expedia. I also purchased a similar guided tour package of Pompeii. I highly recommend both tours. We visited many spots by minivan, but mostly walked when at the popular attractions. In Capri and Anacapri you can get around by bus or car service. The Blue Grotto tour you can get to by tour boat right from Marina Grande in Capri. All other tours on Capri/Anacapri you can complete by foot. There are so many things to see in southern Italy. We definitely plan on visiting again soon! Photos in this video can be appreciated without the video motion here
Also, music in this video came from a CD I picked up n a whim. It turned out to be a great CD! Dinner in Italy

TOURING THE AMALFI COAST (POSITANO & SORRENTO)
In this Symphony of the Seas Cruise Vlog, we arrive in Naples, Italy! We booked our own private excursion, that picked us up at the cruise port, and took us in a private car to the Amalfi Coast. Our wonderful tour guide, Roberto, took us to the towns of Positano & Sorrento. He was extremely knowledgeable and provided a great service! He had us back at our cruise ship in time for our departure. We highly recommend Roberto at Touring Italy.

THE STREETS OF POMPEI ☀️Italian Summer Road Trip ???? Kat Vlogs Italy Ep. 3
It's time to get out of the car and take you on a walking tour of Pompei. This has been on my Italy wish list for so long but we've never been able to work it into a trip. So glad we waited 'til summer as the weather made it even more breathtaking. There was no way of capturing the size or beauty of doing this incredible fallen city justice on my little handheld, but hopefully, this gives you enough of a taste that you want to plan your own journey to Pompei! ❤️

DRIVING THRU ITALY TO FLORENCE, TUSCANY, ROME, POMPEII, SORRENTO & AMALFI, Our Ancient Civilization Trip
Our two week Ancient Civilization trip continues. We leave Greece and Fly to Italy. We start in Florence. Here we stay at the Sina Villa Medici Marriott Autograph Hotel. This property is in a great location for walking everything in the historic area of Florence. We climbed the duomo (make sure to make your reservations as only so many people can climb at once). We visited the Medici Palazzo (house) and walked the Ponte Vecchio (the bridge with the houses on it). We tried to attend church but with a marathon going on we could not make it as the running line trapped us in the historic center. I had the best truffle pasta at Hostaria Il Desco.
After Florence we loaded into our 9 passenger van, which makes total sense in the USA and not so much in ancient cities; and drove thru Tuscany on our way down to Rome. We did the Chianti region which was beautiful, full of charm, and even though it was rainy and cold the hills were still full of color.
In Rome we stayed at the Marriott Grand Hotel Flora, here we had a two bedroom which was fun to be all together. This hotel is next to the ancient wall and close to the Vatican City. The first morning we headed out early to the Vatican City. Here we had a tour guide so we skipped the line into the museum, saw the Sistine Chapel, St Peters Basilica and admired all the marble.
Afterwards we headed toward the Colosseum and had a 2 hour lunch at a restaurant that really knows how to make yummy soup. Gli Angeletti its on Via dell'Angeletto, 3, Roma
After warming up with soup we headed over to the Colosseum ran around for a bit, then took a crazy cab ride back to the hotel.
That night steer being exhausted from a long day we stayed in with room service.
The next morning we packed up and drove down to Pompeii. This was what Turner really wanted to see on this trip. Pompeii was much larger than I ever thought and we spent about 2 hours walking thru the 165 acre complex.
Then we continued on to Sorrento where we had an AirB&B in the heart of Sorrento. The location and space was great. In fact its by a Super Host and overall it was fine and would work for my family of 6 if we returned.
However, I don't know if I will ever go back to Sorrento or the Amalfi coast. I felt like its this hyped up place but in all honesty there really isn't anything special. We all agreed it felt like the whole area had been turned into a destination for cruise ships, the food isn't great and everything about it feels extremely tourist. Solerno at the end of the coast is actually better. Still we had trouble finding well prepared food. We were not on a budget but seriously finding really well prepared food in Italy was difficult no matter what we spent. Its frustrating because you think Italy will have amazing food flowing everywhere but the truth is that because so many areas only cater to tourists I think they lower their quality and change the authenticity to suit what travelers think they want. I had the best luck with soups. The truffle pasta in Florence and actually the pizza crust in Sorrento was really good.
After Sorrento, we drove back to Rome and took a flight to Istanbul. Turkey is a true highlight of this trip.

Driving north from Pompei to Rome on the A1/E45 Autostrade - July 28, 2010
Even though I was driving my rented Opel Astra at up to 140 km/hr, I was consistently being passed like I was standing still by some vehicles. Great scenery & weather for a drive up the coast to Rome!

Next on the menu: The Amalfi Coast! This drive represented only a tiny chunk of our road trip as we only drove through it, but the scenery was so ridonculous I had to do a whole episode on it. Grab yourself an Italian wine, sit back and enjoy the view. x

Amalfi Positano Sorrento Capri Rome Walking Tour 2016

√ Plans and streetscapes of Pompeii and Herculaneum | Ancient History
#iitutor #AncientHistory #LifeAtPompeiiAndHerculaneum
Pompeii had about 15,000-20,000 people. In land area it covered about 160 hectares. It was surrounded by a wall which had 11 watch towers. Access to the city was through eight arched gateways in the wall. Within the walls Pompeii was divided into blocks intersected by straight well made streets paved with stones. Roads had gutters which carried away rain water and waste. There were raised footpaths for pedestrians. Public fountains provided plenty of fresh water for residents and travelers. Underground lead pipes carried water to some of the private houses. There were many public amenities. Three public baths An extensive exercise ground. The Palaastra, complete with
a swimming pool, An amphitheatre and Two theatres. There was also a forum. The forum was like the CBD in today’s cities, it was the centre of the city, where many important buildings were located. It had Law courts, Banks, and A market place. The forum also had other public buildings. It had many temples and public shrines. The forum was a large open area that was surrounded by the important buildings. Herculaneum was a smaller city with about 5000 people. It also had a wall around it. It was located by the sea. It had many beautiful buildings. Much of the city is still underground. The city is located about 7km from Mt Vesuvius.
The four housing blocks excavated so far reveal straight and regular streets, paved and well drained. The main street, the Decumanus Maximus, is wide with well-constructed footpaths on both sides. There were some magnificent villas beyond the town overlooking the sea. This is a picture of the Villa of the Papyri a magnificent residence that existed in Herculaneum. It is called the Villa of the Papyri because of the Papyrus scrolls that have been found inside. This is a replica of the Villa of the Papyri, it is part of the J. Paul Getty Museum in California. Here is a picture of what its believed the Villa of the Papyri would have looked like. It was already 250 years old when it was destroyed by the volcanic eruption.
