Uganda Kidnap: Rescued American Tourist Arrives in Kampala
▶️ Rescued American tourist arrives in Kampala.
????Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni offered reassurances Monday that his country is a safe place to visit after security teams rescued an American woman and her driver who had been kidnapped by gunmen in a national park.
Four unidentified gunmen kidnapped Kimberly Sue Endicott, 56, and her driver, Jean-Paul Mirenge, near a wilderness camp inside Queen Elizabeth National Park last week. An elderly couple who were robbed but not taken alerted a park official to the abduction.

SCENERY TO DIE FOR!
NO WONDER WINSTON CHURCHILL DUBBED THIS THE
PEARL OF AFRICA
This country, with its dense misty forests, snow-peaked mountains, glassy lakes and sprawling savannas along with its good-natured and friendly people everywhere and astonishing landscapes has rightfully gained the title 'pearl of Africa'. While mountain gorillas are the allure for many visitors, there's an astounding variety of attractions for each and every kind of traveler.
Uganda is a unique tourist destination hence referred to as the Pearl of Africa by the well known British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill 1908 in his book titled:
My African Journey
My journey is at an end, the tale has been told. The reader who has followed so faithfully and so far has a right to ask what message I bring back. It can be stated in three words: concentrate upon Uganda!
Uganda is alive by itself. It is vital, and in my view, despite of its insects and diseases, it ought in the course of time, to become the most prosperous of all our East African possessions, and perhaps the 'financial driving wheel' of this part of the world.
My counsel plainly is -- concentrate upon Uganda! No where else in Africa will little money go so far.
Nowhere else will results be more brilliant, more substantial or more rapidly realized.
Uganda is from end to end a beautiful garden where staple food of the people grows almost without labour. Does it not sound like a paradise on earth?
It is the Pearl of Africa.

Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa. It is bordered to the east by Kenya, to the north by South Sudan, to the west by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to the south-west by Rwanda, and to the south by Tanzania.
The southern part of the country includes a substantial portion of Lake Victoria, shared with Kenya and Tanzania. Uganda is in the African Great Lakes region.
Uganda also lies within the Nile basin, and has a varied but generally a modified equatorial climate.
The wildlife of Uganda is composed of its flora and fauna. Uganda has 364 species of mammals and 1062 species of birds.
Uganda is a unique destination offering a wonderful mix of savannah and forest parks. Gorilla and chimp tracking are highlights, but many smaller primates can be seen as well. Uganda also offers great savannah safaris.
Lion is quite common. Giraffe can only be found in Murchison Falls, Lake Mburo.
Black rhinoceros are extinct, but white rhinoceros remains, until they are put into use at the 2005 Ziwa Rhinoceros Protected Area, while zebra exists only in Murchison Falls and Lake Mburo. Uganda is also a prime birding destination, and very attractive.
Enjoy!

Uganda - Clinton and Hillary continue visit
T/I: 11:11:09
US President Bill Clinton acknowledged at a Ugandan primary
school on Tuesday (24/3) that the United States had been wrong
to benefit from slavery, but said its worst sin had perhaps been
neglect and ignorance of Africa.
Going back to the time before we were even a nation, European
Americans received the fruits of the slave trade. And we were
wrong in that, Clinton said at the Kisowera school, some 15
kilometres (nine miles) east of Kampala. He noted, however, that
from the ranks of slavery had emerged many distinguished
Afro-Americans.
The US president was speaking, on the second leg of his
six-nation tour of Africa, from a shaded dais to dignitaries and
to hundreds of young schoolchildren who sat on the grass for
hours under a blisteringly hot sun.
The United States has not always done the right thing by
Africa, Clinton said in the presence of Ugandan President
Yoweri Museveni and the two First Ladies, Hillary Clinton and
Janet Museveni. During the Cold War, he said, Washington's
support for African countries was often based more on where they
stood in the struggle between the United States and the Soviet
Union than on their own peoples' aspirations.
But perhaps the worst sin America ever committed about Africa
was the sin of neglect and ignorance, the US leader said. We
have never been involved with you, in moving together for our
mutual benefit, for your children and for ours, as we should
have been.

SOT President Clinton: I think it is worth pointing out that the US has not always done the right thing by Africa. In our own time, during the cold war when we so concerned about being in competition with the Soviet Union, very often we dealt with countries in Africa and other parts of the world based more on how they stood in the struggle between the United States and the Soviet Union, than how they stood in the struggle for their own peoples' aspirations to live up to their fullest God-given abilities. Of course going back to the time before we were a
nation, European nations received the fruits of the slave trade and we were wrong in that as well;

Eid mubarak/Gaddafi Mosque Kampala
Gaddafi National Mosque in Kampala, Uganda The Uganda National Mosque is a mosque located at Kampala Hill in the Old Kampala area of Kampala, Uganda. Completed in 2006, it seats up to 15,000 worshipers and can hold another 1,100 in the gallery, while the terrace will cater for another 3,500. Colonel Muammar Gaddafi of Libya commissioned the mosque as a gift to Uganda, and for the benefit of the Muslim population. Uganda has many mosques but this one is a skyscraper mosque. The completed mosque was opened officially in June 2007 under the name Gaddafi National Mosque, and housed the head offices of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council. It was renamed Uganda National Mosque in 2013 following the death of Colonel Gaddafi as the new Libyan administration was reluctant to rehabilitate the mosque under the old name. Situated on the top of Old Kampala Hill, Gaddafi Mosque is one of the interesting attractions which can be explored by visitors on Uganda safaris to Kampala. The mosque is the head administrative Center of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council the organization which takes care of all Islamic affairs in Uganda. It’s a two fabled building and the mosque is on the upper floor while the offices are on the ground floor. The Construction of the famous mosque began in 1972 after the emergence of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council by the Government of Uganda. It was then called the Old Kampala National Mosque. Construction came to a standstill in 1976 and it wasn’t until 2001 when the Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, approached the President of the state of Libya Colonel Muammar Gaddafi when he was on his safaris tour to Uganda, asking him for assistance to complete the construction process of the Mosque which Gaddafi accepted. Ground work began again in 2004 when the old unfinished establishment was demolished. It was officially opened and inaugurated in 2008 by the late Colonel Gaddafi himself who was on Uganda Safaris to attend the event that was attended by several African heads of state. Gaddafi Mosque can accommodate 35,000 worshipers and the number doubles during the holy month of Ramadhan and on special Islamic days when even some Islamic brothers under take safaris to Uganda. On holidays like Eid when Muslim travelers in Uganda Safaris are flocking to the mosque, it accommodates about 200,000 people. The popularity of the Mosque is attributed to the late Colonel Gaddafi who left a landmark on international politics so whenever people both locals and foreigners hear that he did such a thing as constructing a National Mosque for Uganda, Safaris to Uganda’s Gaddafi Mosque always increase because many visitors come to witness for themselves if actually it exists” This minaret which is open for viewing by the general public has a staircase of three hundred and four stairs. It is completely built from reinforced concrete and the view of Kampala City on top of this minaret is breath taking. It is a favored spot by professional photographers and tourists on Safaris tours to Uganda who want to get a scenic view of Kampala City. Tourists on Uganda gorilla safaris tours are welcome at the Gaddafi Mosque and should dress modestly. Women should wear loose fitting clothes covering to the wrist and ankle and cover their heads. Coverings are available at the reception for those who need them and should be returned after the visit. Men should wear trousers, shirts with sleeves. There are two parts of the mosque; the ground floor which is open at all times and the first floor which is only opened on special occasions like Eid or weddings. The minaret is always closed but opened on request when accompanied by a guide. Foreigners are charged 10,000 UGX for viewing the inside of the mosque and going up to the minaret with a guide but it’s totally free for Ugandans. For visitors undertaking safaris in Uganda, Gaddafi national mosque, is one prime spot in Kampala one must not miss. There are well trained guides at the mosque that offer to take you around with a great a smile MashaAllah.

UGANDA: RONALD MUWENDA MUTEBI CELEBRATES 4TH ANNIVERSARY IN POWER
English/Nat
The most important of Uganda's three monarchs has celebrated his fourth anniversary in power with speeches and activities.
But the festivities for Ronald Muwenda Mutebi were clouded not only by intermittent downpours but a decline in Ugandans' enthusiasm for monarchs.
Ronald Muwenda Mutebi was greeted by cheering crowds as he arrived at Saturday's celebrations at Nkoni.
Mutebi is the Kabaka, or monarch, of the Buganda people, the country's largest tribe, and is a 46-year-old, British-trained lawyer.
He normally spends his time raising money to help street children and
advising his subjects to work on developing projects rather than begging.
The Berundi are both the largest and the poorest tribe in Uganda.
Three of Uganda's four traditional monarchies were restored in 1993 by President Yoweri Museveni after a 27-year ban imposed by politicians who wanted no rivals
Today's monarchs do not govern, they do not collect taxes, and, therefore, there is no code linking them to their people.
The returning monarchs were barred from politics and their activities were limited to looking after traditional sites and promoting vernacular languages.
Many young people argue the monarchs are outdated and irrelevant.
Older people say this is so because the government has imposed laws that weaken the rulers' powers.
The Ugandan Prime Minister told the crowd that the role of the monarchy must change.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
The Kabaka is playing his rightful role as the fountain and patron of Kigandan culture. But the Kabaka is also caught up in a revolution of rising expectations of the people. The people are demanding more. Your people want a modernizing monarchy so that they can fit comfortable in the new century and millennium.
SUPER CAPTION: Kintu Musoke, Ugandan Prime Minister
Many Buganda tribes people look back fondly on the days when their monarch had real power.
The kings, although restored, have lost their economic clout and no longer are able to impress their subjects by building roads, schools and hospitals.
Only two years ago the government returned these grass hut tombs back to the Kabaka after controlling them for 27 years.
Five monarchs buried here - one tomb is considered the largest grass hut in the world.
School children are encouraged to visit the tombs and are told stories of the Kabaka to keep them interested in holding on the monarchy.
The elders hope the children will eventually join them in their quest to convince the government to give power back to the throne.
