Kayaking the Natural Spring Fed Rainbow River in Dunnellon Florida
The Rainbow River is an awesome destination for kayaking! The Rainbow River is located in Dunnellon, Florida. You can take your kayaks out at the Blue Run of Dunnellon Park and just paddle upstream and then lazily drift down and relax or you can go out at the headsprings and paddle the whole river. If you want to just drift down the river on a raft or tube you can go out of the KP hole a Dunnellon County Park.

A pleasant Sunday morning kayak trip up the Rainbow river. Paddled about a mile upriver and then leisurely coasted back to the launch ramp. Spent over an hour on the crystal clear water.
Rainbow Springs State Park is a Florida State Park located on U.S. 41, three miles (5 km) north of Dunnellon, Florida. It comprises 1,459.07 acres (5.9046 km2) upland (which includes around 100 acres (0.40 km2) of wetlands) and 12.83 acres (51,900 m2) submerged. The most significant natural feature is the first magnitude headspring basin which produces up to 600,000,000 US gallons (2,300,000 m3) of fresh water per day, forming The Rainbow River. The looking glass waters of Rainbow Springs come from several vents, not one large bubbling spring. The river itself supports a wide variety of fish, wildlife, and plants, many within easy viewing by visitors. In total, the park contains 11 distinct natural communities, including sandhills, flatwoods, upland mixed forests, and hydric hammocks.
Visitors are able to see a variety of wildflowers in season; oak, longleaf pines, magnolia, dogwood, red maple, redbud, cypress, sabal, and hickory trees; gray squirrels, red-shouldered hawks, swallowtail kites, barred owls, whitetail deer, and a wide variety of wading birds. The relative peace and quiet of the winter season offers much for the nature enthusiast. There is an interpretive room located in the visitor center displaying historical, natural, and cultural resources of the park.

My brother-in-law and his wife were in town for vacation and we all decided to take them to kayak and see the crystal clear water of Rainbow River located in Dunnellon, Florida. Rainbow River produces approximately 400-600 gallons of water everyday. We launched from the KP Hole and headed up stream to Rainbow Springs State Park. It was a beautiful day and even got a Largemouth Bass out of it

KAYAKING: Rainbow River
While down in Florida, Robin and I head out for some kayaking on the Rainbow River. There is only so much Homesteading the girl can take, but we're working on her. ;)
We had a great two hour float/paddle down the river ending up at Swampy's for adult beverages and food!
Rainbow Springs KP Hole
The KP Hole Park is a destination when spending the day on the Rainbow River. The KP Hole Park is open daily and offers swimming, picnicking, and a boat ramp. Canoe, kayak and tube rentals are available on site. The KP Hole located on the Rainbow River is a designated Outstanding Florida Waterway. I would recommend going here to anyone. The Rainbow River hosts a variety of freshwater fish, turtles and otters. Hawks, Blue Heron, Ibis, Anhinga and Cormorants are some of the birds you might see on your visit to the KP Hole County Park.
