Rambagh Park (Mughal Garden) in Agra
Rambagh Park is an important Mughal garden in Agra. It is located about one Km north to Chini Ka Rauza. It was laid out by Babur, the founder of Mogul empire, during 1526. It was called as Bagh-I-Gul Afsan (the flower scattering garden) and Bagh-I-Noor Afsan (the Light Scattering Garden). As per historians the old name was Aram Bagh. When Marathas ruled Agra in seventeenth century the name was changed from Aram Bagh to Ram Bagh. Currently this garden is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India and you have to buy 30 Rs ticket to visit this garden.

Akbar's tomb is the tomb of the Mughal emperor, Akbar and an important Mughal architectural masterpiece. It was built in 1605–1613 and is situated in 119 acres of grounds in Sikandra, a sub of Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India.
Ram Bagh is the oldest Mughal Garden in India, originally built by the Mughal Emperor Babur in 1528, located about five kilometers northeast of the Taj Mahal in Agra, India. Babur was temporarily buried there before being interred in Kabul.
The garden is a Persian garden, where pathways and canals divide the garden to represent the Islamic ideal of paradise, an abundant garden through which rivers flow. The Aram Bagh provides an example of a variant of the charbagh in which water cascades down three terraces in a sequence of cascades. Two viewing pavilions face the Jumna river and incorporates a subterranean 'tahkhana' which was used during the hot summers to provide relief for visitors. The garden has numerous water courses and fountains.

Over the past few years, World Monuments Fund and the Archaeological Survey of India have partnered to highlight the value of Ram Bagh, the oldest Mughal garden in India, alongside other important historic Mughal gardens in the city of Agra.

Recently, I visited Aram Bagh which is the oldest mughal garden in India. Located in Agra, Aaram Bagh is also known by a few other names such as Ram Bagh or Bagh-i-Gul-Afsan and is located on the banks of Yamuna river, around 200 metres away from Rambagh Chauraha.
Built by the Mughal Emperor Babur in the year 1528, it is situated at about 5 km northeast of the Taj Mahal and 3 km away from Tomb of Itmad-ud-Daulah. Babur was known to be temporarily buried near this place before finally being interred in Kabul. This is a Persian garden, where pathways as well as canals divide the garden to represent the Islamic ideal of paradise, an abundant garden through which rivers flow.
The Aram Bagh is known to provide an example of a variant of the charbagh in which water cascades down 3 different terraces in a sequence of cascades. Two viewing pavilions face the Yamuna river and incorporates a underground 'tahkhana' which was used during the hot summers to provide relief for the mughals and their visitors.
The garden has a number of water courses and fountains. Aaram Bagh means 'Garden of Rest'. It is also known as Bagh-i Nur Afshan which means 'Light-Scattering Garden'. Some refer it to as Aalsi Bagh or 'Lazy Garden'. According to legend, Emperor Akbar proposed to his third wife, who used to be a gardener there, while he was lying idle for 6 days until she agreed to marry him.
Jahangir waited in this garden in early March 1621 for the most astrologically auspicious hour for him to enter Agra soon after he took the Fort of Kangra. Jahangir also made 2 beautiful rooms on the main floor of the garden. The preserved, surviving architecture dates to his reign and demonstrates the skill of his wife Nur Jahan as a garden designer.
How to Reach Aram Bagh : In order to reach this garden, one should first reach Ram Bagh Chauraha, from where this place is just 200 metres away.

Mehtab Bagh in Agra
Mehtab bagh is one of the popular Mogul gardens of Agra. It is situated very near to Taj Mahal on the other side of Yamuna River. Although the aireal distance between Taj Mahal and Mehtab bagh is as less as 100 meters the distance by road is about 5 kms. Cycle rikshaw and Tumtum charge about 100 rs and Auto rikshaw charge about 150 rs for this distance.
Mehtab bagh is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India. You have to buy an entry ticket of Rs 30/- to go inside. As you can see in the video there is nothing to see in Mehtab bagh. The garden is very poorly maintained. One of the reasons people come to Mehtab bagh is to get a nice view of Taj Mahal. But since cameras are now allowed inside Taj Mahal there is no need to take pictures from Mehtab bagh. By and large our experience in Mehtab bagh was very disappointing. If you have less time in Agra you can very much remove this place from your list.

Mehtab Bagh means 'Moonlight Garden'. It is in Agra on the bank of the River Yamuna. The Mehtab Bagh garden was the last of eleven Mughal-built gardens along the Yamuna opposite the Taj Mahal. It was built by Emperor Babur in 1530. The garden was designed as an integral part of the Taj Mahal complex in the riverfront terrace pattern. It is believed that Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan had a wish to build 'Black Taj' here. This garden is one of the best spots for the stunning view of the Taj Mahal.
