Richtis Gorge Crete Greece: This hike can be walked in both summer and winter. During the hike there is quite some climbing and trekking involved at certain spots. The entire walk is 6 kilometres, but can be extended to 10 and 12 kilometres. When we take the 10 to 12 kilometres walk through the gorge, in many places we will need to create our way through the wilderness. The river that flows through this area regularly creates obstacles. We often need to find the way and cross the water to get to the small walking path. At various places we climb over the rocks and walk weighed down under the branches. Halfway this gorge we encounter an impressive waterfall, with a free fall of 30 metres. At the end of the gorge we will arrive at an isolated beach.

Το φαράγγι του Ρίχτη βρίσκεται στο Νομό Λασιθίου, στην βόρεια πλευρά, ανάμεσα στον Αγ Νικόλαο και τη Σητεία. Ξεκινάει λίγο έξω από το χωριό Έξω Μουλιανά και καταλήγει στην ομώνυμη παραλία του Ρίχτη, ανατολικά από το χωριό Καλαβρό. Το συνολικό μήκος της διαδρομής είναι περίπου 3 χιλιόμετρα και η υψομετρική διαφορά εισόδου και εξόδου είναι περίπου 350 μέτρα. Το φαράγγι ακόμα και το καλοκαίρι έχει αρκετό νερό, το οποίο αξιοποιείται από δεξαμενή.
The amazing gorge of Richtis is located in Lasithi Prefecture, on the north side, between Agios Nikolaos and Sitia. It starts just outside the village Exo Mouliana and ends at the Richtis beach, east of the village of Kalabro. The total length of the route is approximately 3 kilometers and the elevation difference between the starting point and the beach is about 350 meters. The gorge, even in summer, has enough water, which is used by locals.

Μεταξύ Αγ Νικολάου και Σητείας λίγο έξω από το χωριό έξω Μουλιανά αρχίζει το φαράγγι του Ρίχτη το οποίο καταλήγει στην ομώνυμη παραλία.Το συνολικό μήκος του είναι περίπου 3 χιλιόμετρα και η υψομετρική διαφορά εισόδου και εξόδου είναι περίπου 350 μέτρα. Η διαδρομή ξεκινά από το πέτρινο τοξωτό γεφύρι του Λαχανά (19ος αιώνας) στο οποίο λέγεται, ότι οι χριστιανοί σκότωσαν τους Τούρκους της περιοχής, οι οποίοι προσπαθούσαν να κατέβουν στην Σητεία, για να φύγουν με καράβια για την Τουρκία, κατά την ανταλλαγή τον πληθυσμών (Ελλάδας –Τουρκίας). Πλούσιο σε βλάστηση φαράγγι με νερό ακόμα και το καλοκαίρι και ένα πανένορφο καταρράκτη 15 περίπου μέτρων που σχηματίζει μια μικρή λιμνούλα.

Φαράγγι των Νεκρών - Dead's Gorge , Crete in 4K
Σε μικρή απόσταση από την Επάνω Ζάκρο, σχεδόν 100km νοτιοανατολικά του Αγίου Νικολάου ξεκινά το πανέμορφο φαράγγι της Κάτω Ζάκρου ή των Νεκρών, που τελειώνει στην Κάτω Ζάκρο και αποτελεί τμήμα του Ευρωπαϊκού μονοπατιού Ε4. Πρόκειται για εξαιρετικής ομορφιάς φαράγγι που στα ψηλά του τείχη υπάρχουν μεγάλες σπηλιές. Στις σπηλιές αυτές βρέθηκαν τάφοι από τη Μινωική εποχή και μέσα σε αυτούς ευρήματα μεγάλης αρχαιολογικής αξίας. Λόγω των τάφων αυτών μάλιστα το φαράγγι ονομάζεται Φαράγγι των Νεκρών και οι σπηλιές Σπηλιές των Νεκρών

The beautiful Gorge of Kato Zakros (or the gorge of the Dead) starts in a short distance from Ano Zakros, nearly 100km southeast of St. Nicholas, and ends at Kato Zakros. The trail in the gorge is part of the E4 European trail. It is an exceptionally beautiful gorge, with high walls with big caves on them. In those caves, tombs of the Minoan era, have been found, which contained findings of great archaeological value. Because of these tombs, the gorge is also called Gorge of the Dead and the caves Caves of the Dead.

Outdoor Adventures in Eastern Crete - Hiking a Gorge, Almost Private Island, Horses and More!
We drove to Eastern Crete and hiked the Richtis Gorge to see a waterfall, the hike was challenging but fun. Then we went to the Sitia Beach Hotel and had a great dinner with Elina, our hostess from the tourism board.
The next morning we went to a small village to a bakery to see some traditional pastries being made, then checked into our favorite place, the Terra Minoiki in Kato Zakros, such an out of the way place, so peaceful. We had some great meals, saw another gorge, then it was time to head to Chrissi Island.
We took a small pontoon boat to Chrissi Island, this was the nicest sand beach of the trip, not many people, blue water, amazing. Then it was time to head to the Miramare all inclusive resort.
The next morning we had a boat tour and picnic, visited Spinalonga island, a former leper colony.
Our final day we visited Fourni Horses and had a 90 minute horseback ride around the area. We then had lunch at the Wyndham Grand Crete Mirabello Bay, then it was time to say our goodbyes. Such a fun 12 nights in Crete with everyone, thanks again to everyone who helped make this trip possible!
