UGANDA: TOURIST MASSACRE UPDATE
Natural Sound
Hundreds of Ugandan army troops reportedly moved into neighbouring Congo on Thursday to search for the Rwandan rebels who slaughtered eight foreign tourists.
Police reinforced troops on the Uganda border, trying to close in on the Congo-based rebels who slaughtered the tourists with machetes and axes in southwestern Uganda's Impenetrable Forest.
Three survivors of the massacre of a group of tourists in Uganda have left Entebbe Airport amid an intensified hunt for the Rwandan rebels who carried out the attack.
Four British nationals, two Americans and two New Zealanders were hacked to death with machetes after the Hutu rebels, based in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, raided several tourist camps.
Meanwhile, in Kampala, the eight bodies of those killed were being prepared to be flown out of the country.
For eight foreign tourists the chance of a lifetime - to visit southwest Uganda's impenetrable Forest in the region of Buhoma.
But their trip ended in a violent death at the hands of Rwandan rebels.
Signs of Monday's simultaneous raids on several campgrounds marred the camps which were looted and burned.
The charred frame of a vehicle in which one Ugandan park ranger was burned to death after being shot by rebels flanked the park gate north of the camps.
Stepping up the manhunt for Rwandan rebels who have reportedly threatened more attacks, hundreds of army troops are combing this densely forested border region to track the killers.
Uganda has sent at least 600 troops across the border into neighboring Congo to join with Rwanda troops.
Police have reinforced troops on the Ugandan side in an effort to close in on the rebels who killed the tourists in this remote rain forest known for its rare gorillas.
Senior Ugandan military officer Benan Biraaro says the joint forces killed 15 of the rebels on Wednesday near the Bwindi National Park.
The Hutu rebels initially kidnapped 31 foreigners as part of their crusade to undermine Rwanda's Tutsi-led government.
Seventeen of these escaped or were freed shortly afterwards.
But 14 more were frogmarched towards the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Eight of these were killed while the remaining six were released.
F-B-I and Justice Department teams are also investigating the attack.
The eight bodies of those killed were being prepared to be flown out of the country on Thursday.
Now those that survived the brutal attack must try to come to terms with their recent trauma.
Australian Pathen Brocke escaped capture in the park.
And Danja Walthers, a Swiss flight attendant, told journalists in Kampala on Wednesday the rebels forced the hostages to walk barefoot through the jungle.
The survivors - on their way to Nairobi - were accompanied by Mark Ross.
Ross, the American-born pilot and guide is credited with negotiating the release of the six survivors.
Uganda's president admitted on Wednesday partial responsibility for not protecting the tourists from the rebels.
Potential tourists will now think again before journeying to the Ugandan rainforest in the hope of spying on rare mountain gorillas.
The rebels say they wanted the world to know there is a war in Congo -- a goal the bloody murders have surely accomplished.

Peaceful encounter with an African Forest Elephant with HUGE tusks.
Taking a group of tourists to visit mountain gorillas in Bwindi, Uganda, we encountered a forest elephant - a rare event, made even more exciting when he turned his head revealing the biggest tusks I have seen on a living elephant. Sarah, a guide with the Uganda Wildlife Service, explains how elephants use mud to heal wounds.
This was in 2014 - I have not shared this video before now, fearing that some ivory dealer would put a contract out on this magnificent tusker, but I recently learned that he has since died of natural causes. That he lived to die of old age is a tribute to Uganda's successful conservation policies. After our encounter with this extraordinary elephant, we had a great visit to the gorillas too - a day to remember!
