Fiat 500 tour in Rome area & Lazio
rome500exp.com - info@rome500exp.com - Tour Rome aboard of a vintage FIAT 500 with a private driver or SELF DRIVE in a convoy tour and discover all the key sites like the Colosseum, Aventine Hill, St.Peter's Square, Piazza Navona. Stop and enjoy a walk around Rome's historic centre and see the Pantheon, the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain. Hotel pickup and drop-off included. Explore the vibrant districts of Trastevere and Testaccio before peeping through the Aventine Keyhole for a snapshot view of St Peter's Basilica. Go hunting for the best ice-cream in town, feel like a Movie Star while the onlookers will take pics at you inside a charming vintage FIAT 500. If you feel like, you can also drive personally a FIAT 500 by following the tour leader along an itinerary that includes Rome's most famous sites. We also organize amazing tours with wine tasting and cookery lessons in Rome and the surrounding area. Our favourites day trips out of Rome are: Tivoli Villa d'Este, Tivoli Hadrian Villa, Tivoli Villa Gregoriana, Ostia Antica, Lake Bracciano, Calcata. You might like to experience our photo safaris to Modern Rome and going for some food shopping to local markets, the most amazing food hall in town. Also combination of car tours and food tour in the district of Testaccio are possible. Experience our slow journeys in vintage FIAT 500. Imagine yourself racing through the Roman countryside in a modern, air-conditioned and .... totally aseptic vehicle; now close your eyes, reduce speed, and imagine yourself on the same winding road in a colourful vintage FIAT 500: hear the purr of the engine, the singing of the cicadas, smell the freshly-cut summer hay drifting in through the open windows and the sun's warmth licking at your skin... That's what we call a Slow Journey. With the open roof top of our vintage cars to better see, smell and hear and your picnic hamper firmly strapped to the back of the car, you will savour the heady pleasure of the journey, over the rounded hills and roads lined with pine trees and cypresses, so typical of the Italian countryside. Our FIAT 500 are also perfect for weddings and other celebrations. As an alternative to the prosaic black and white Rolls Royce, our Vintage Fiat 500 cars will add to the perfect wedding plan, a touch of colour, glamour, fun and poetry -- in short, the Italian touch. Thanks to Niccolò De Masi for the video. Special thanks to Maestro Filadelfo Castro filadelfocastro.it for the amazing rendition of Minor Swing by Django Reinhardt. Thanks to all the ROME 500 EXP crew!

Rome, Florence, Venice, Lucerne, Paris, London by train
Rome to London by train, featuring the best of Italy, Switzerland, France and England. Jump to the different cities or watch it all: Rome at 2:34; Florence at 8:43; Venice at 16:53; Lucerne at 22:42; Paris at 27:50; London at 34:10; Comments at 44:39
Rome highlights include lunch at Campo dei Fiori and a walking tour to the Pantheon, Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Vatican Museum and St. Peters, best of Europe.
Florence is always listed in the world’s top-ten places to visit because of the Renaissance tradition we still see in the architecture, and the overall beauty of the city, not to mention great restaurants. Our walking tour with local guide brings us to the Duomo, Piazza della Signoria and across the Arno River to Oltrarno. We also enjoy steak at il Porcospino, a favorite restaurant, with a most friendly waiter, Franco.
Venice is the city of dreams, a place like no other, with water for streets and boats for cars. Our several walking tours bring us into the heart of town including: Rialto, San Marco, the Basilica, hidden restaurants, and of course, a gondola ride.
Lucerne is an ideal town to visit on your trip through Switzerland, with a lovely pedestrian zone, historic buildings in the typical style, waterfront cafes and views, and nearby mountains including Titlis, which we ascend in this journey.
Paris, perhaps the world’s most beautiful city, including: TGV arrival, walk to the Opera, Chartier dinner, stroll to Rue Montorgueil, open-top bus tour, Versailles, the Louvre, Latin Quarter and more…
London, capital of England, is our globe-trotting filmmaker’s favorite city, and this summary demonstrates why this city is so compelling. We bring you all over the center of town, including Soho, Covent Garden, Regent Street, Oxford Street, Burlington Arcade, Fortnum & Mason, Changing the Guard, open-top bus tour, Inns of Court, The City and the Tower of London.
Comments: An ideal Europe trip should include the major cities of London, Paris and Rome, along with a look at Switzerland in Lucerne, and the other greatest of Italian places, Florence and Venice. We summarize the journey with comments from our travelers about their favorites and general feelings about the trip, travelling by train and staying in each city for several days.

Rome is a city and special comune (named Roma Capitale) in Italy. Rome is the capital of Italy and also of the Province of Rome and of the region of Lazio. With 2.9 million residents in 1,285.3 km2 (496.3 sq mi), it is also the country's largest and most populated comune and fourth-most populous city in the European Union by population within city limits. The urban area of Rome extends beyond the administrative city limits with a population of around 3.8 million. Between 3.2 and 4.2 million people live in Rome metropolitan area. The city is located in the central-western portion of the Italian Peninsula, within Lazio (Latium), along the shores of Tiber river. Vatican City is an independent country within the city boundaries of Rome, the only existing example of a country within a city: for this reason Rome has been often defined as capital of two states.
Rome's history spans more than two and a half thousand years, since its legendary founding in 753 BC. Rome is one of the oldest continuously occupied cities in Europe. It is referred to as The Eternal City (Latin: Roma Aeterna), a central notion in ancient Roman culture. In the ancient world it was successively the capital city of the Roman Kingdom, the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire, and is regarded as one of the birthplaces of Western civilization. Since the 1st century AD, Rome has been considered the seat of the Papacy and in the 8th century it became the capital of the Papal States, which lasted until 1870. In 1871 Rome became the capital of the Kingdom of Italy, and in 1946 that of the Italian Republic.
After the Middle Ages, Rome was ruled by popes such as Alexander VI and Leo X, who transformed the city into one of the major centers of the Italian Renaissance along with Florence. The current version of St Peter's Basilica was built and the Sistine Chapel was painted by Michelangelo. Famous artists and architects, such as Bramante, Bernini and Raphael, resided for some time in Rome, contributing to its Renaissance and Baroque architecture.
Rome has a status of the global city. In 2007, Rome was the 11th-most-visited city in the world, 3rd most visited in the European Union, and the most popular tourist attraction in Italy. Its historic centre is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Monuments and museums such as the Vatican Museums and the Colosseum are among the world's most visited tourist destinations with both locations receiving millions of tourists a year. Rome hosted the 1960 Summer Olympics and is the seat of United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
Legend of the founding of Rome
Traditional stories handed down by the ancient Romans themselves explain the earliest history of their city in terms of legend and myth. The most familiar of these myths, and perhaps the most famous of all Roman myths, is the story of Romulus and Remus, the twins who were suckled by a she-wolf. They decided to build a city, but after an argument, Romulus killed his brother. According to the Roman annalists, this happened on 21 April 753 BC. This legend had to be reconciled with a dual tradition, set earlier in time, that had the Trojan refugee Aeneas escape to Italy and found the line of Romans through his son Iulus, the namesake of the Julio-Claudian dynasty. This was accomplished by the Roman poet Virgil in the first century BC.Wikipedia
