Sweden Free / Myntkabinettet
If you like money (not exactly making money or spending money, but rather.... looking at money) you will like to stop by this small and beautifully curated museum right next to Stockholm's old town and spend at least 30 minutes discovering how what started as a 30-ton rock ended up as a thin piece of plastic in our wallets.
The world's largest coin and the first banknote!
I visited Kungliga myntkabinettet (The Royal Coin Cabinet) in Stockholm, Sweden January 12th 2014. It is an incredible place. Loads and loads of old coins and stuff related to coins from around the world. Nobel prizes and commemorative coins included. Many of which are made of gold. And it also has a huge amount of banknotes.
This video has the largest coin and the first/oldest banknote featured. That coin type is called plootu. It is made of copper. It is not the largest method of payment, though. Those are the large stones called Rai. And the museum even has one of those!
I highly recommend visiting that museum. It is also not that expensive. 70 Swedish Krona (just under 8 Euros) for adults. And free on Mondays. (Update 24.10.2015: I visited it again and it is now free everyday! Open daily 11-17.) It is now my favorite place to visit when in Sweden. It is just next to a royal palace.

Here are some of my Swedish Coins.
Three crowns are one of Sweden's national symbols and are part of Sweden's national armed forces. The symbol is composed of three yellow or gilded open crowns, placed two above one and on a blue background. These colors and figures are used both in a separate shield and as a field in Sweden's big national coat of arms, as well as freestanding characteristics without a separate framing around.

GOLD COINS FROM SWEDEN 1512 - 2020, Author & publisher
GOLD COINS FROM SWEDEN 1512 - 2020, Author & publisher
My own interest in coins started in the mid-1960s when, as a small boy, I used my weekly pocket money to exchange coins iI received in banks and searched for rare items among them. Interest grew over the years and in the early 1980s I started working professionally at the major coin and auction houses in Stockholm such as Hirsch Mynthandel and Ahlström Mynthandel. The passion for the historical, the aesthetic and the artistic grew over the years. During the 1990s, I was editor of the historic-numismatic magazine Myntrapport. Seeing the objects in their historical context has always been a beacon in my passion-driven numismatic interest. It has now finally led to the first edition of Gold Coins From Sweden, 1512-2020 where the coins and medals are presented well integrated with historical and numismatic articles. It is therefore now with great pleasure that I can present the first illustrated catalog of its kind to include the entire Swedish gold coinage, as well as a selection of gold medals. By bringing together four prestigious collector areas in one and the same catalog, the picture of the Swedish gold becomes clear.
For those who are interested in Sweden, and its history, politically, culturally and artistically, the coins and medals offer by far, without comparison, the best time machine through which we get a fascinating insight into historical events. To hold a a coin or medal from Gustav II Adolf's time in one's hand and thereby travel to the 30 Years War, which was fought on the continent, gives the coins a context that is both fascinating and interesting. The most talented engravers in Europe were hired by the Swedish government to engrave medals and through medallic art perpetuate historical events such as coronations, burials, victories and peace treaties. Traditionally, the numismatic areas are grouped into their separate catalogs, which create unjustified waterproof walls between them but which are in fact naturally intertwined.
The catalogue Sveriges Mynt from 1977, lists and describes only, as the name suggests, the coins struck in Sweden and issued for circulation inside Sweden. The catalogue Sveriges besittningsmynt from 1980, lists and describes the coins that have been struck for Sweden but in the conquered areas in the Baltic States and Germany. In the case of Fredrik I's Hessian coins, in Sweden there is only one published article in the SNT from 1983. Last but not least, is Bror Emil Hildebrand's magnificent compilation from 1874 and 1875 on Sweden's royal medals. I hope, by putting four naturally historically intertwined areas into one and the same catalogue, also to inspire to a wider perspective of coin collecting as well as a more in-depth historical knowledge.
The contents of the catalog are distributed in the following areas:
- Gold coins struck in Sweden 1512-2019
- Gold coins of the Swedish possessions 1622-1759
- Gold coins - Friedrich I, Count of Hesse-Cassel as King of Sweden 1731-1750
- A selection of gold medals Gustav II Adolf - Carl XVI Gustaf

SUMMARY
=======
Swedish iron ore was an important economic factor in the European theatre of World War II. Both the Allies and the Third Reich were keen on the control of the mining district in northernmost Sweden, surrounding the mining towns of Gällivare and Kiruna. The importance of this issue increased after other sources were cut off from Germany by the British sea blockade during the Battle of the Atlantic. Both the planned Anglo-French support of Finland in the Winter War, and the following German occupation of Denmark and Norway (Operation Weserübung) were to a large extent motivated by the wish to deny their respective enemies iron critical for wartime production of steel.Winston Churchill, then First Lord of the Admiralty, was particularly concerned about Swedish exports of iron ore to Germany, and pushed for the British government to take military action to end the trade. From the beginning of the war Churchill tried to persuade his cabinet colleagues to send a British fleet into the Baltic Sea to stop shipping reaching Germany from the two Swedish iron ore ports, Luleå and Oxelösund. The project was called Project Catherine and was planned by Admiral of the Fleet William Boyle, 12th Earl of Cork. However, events overtook this project and it was canceled. Later, when the Baltic ports froze over and the Germans began shipping the iron ore from the Norwegian port of Narvik, Churchill pushed for the Royal Navy to mine the west coast of Norway to prevent the Germans travelling inside neutral territorial waters to escape Allied Contraband Control measures.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.
