Royal Gorge Dinosaur Experience
Pink Realty had the pleasure to interview the owner of the Dinosour Experience Zach Renolds.
THE DINO EXPERIENCE
The Royal Gorge Dinosaur Experience gives kids of all ages the opportunity to experience science-focused interactive displays, full-scale dinosaur fossil casts, hands-on exhibits with real dinosaur fossils, skinned animatronic dinosaur exhibits, guided tours, and—for added family fun, value and lasting memories—a multi-story ropes course.
The Royal Gorge Dinosaur Experience is owned and operated by the father and son team of David and Zach Reynolds, multi-generational Cañon City residents and longtime local area business owners with a direct family connection to some of the Lower Arkansas Valley’s most important paleontological discoveries of the Twentieth Century.
Peter Allen, Zach’s maternal grandfather, was a math and science teacher at Cañon City High School who regularly accompanied his friend, colleague and noted paleontologist Fred Kessler on digs in the greater Garden Park Fossil Area during the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s.
Zach inherited his grandfather’s fascination with science and dinosaurs, and earned a degree in geology at Western State Colorado University before pursuing a career in photojournalism. He returned to Cañon City in 2006 to join David at Reynolds Construction Company, the successful, multi-generational business that David’s father founded in 1972. Reynolds Construction completed its final job—the architecturally stunning Royal Gorge Dinosaur Experience building—in June of 2016, allowing David and Zach to create the area’s most exciting museum and interactive learning center.
Zach is joining his parents, David and Marion Reynolds in this endeavor, and is being supported by his wife, Carman, and their three children.
Trip to Royal Gorge Canon City Colorado
We had a trip to a Colorado attraction called Royal Gorge Bridge & Park. Royal Gorge is located in Cañon City, Colorado. We took mom to see it.
Royal Gorge has a few rides, music, exhibitions, a restaurant over looking the gorge formed by the Arkansas River, and of course a bridge across the gorge. It is the biggest suspension bridge in the USA.

Colorado At Altitude - Royal Gorge
Towering over 1,000 feet, the Royal Gorge Bridge near Cañon City is the highest suspension bridge in America. At approximately 10 miles long and surrounded by red granite walls, it’s no wonder some of the first American explorers referred to it as the Grand Canyon of the Arkansas.

What a fantastic trip! Will Colon knows the Fremont County area and specifically Canon City so well. His knowledge of history combined with the tour makes this a very memorable experience. I highly recommend putting this trip on your to do list if you are visiting the area. And if you live here you owe yourself more education than you would ever expect from a jeep tour

Explore Colorado Dinosaur Ridge
Head just 20 minutes west of Denver and you can walk in the steps of dinosaurs. It really is a trek through time at Dinosaur Ridge, just off Alameda Parkway in Morrison. Dinosaur Ridge is famous for its tracks site. There are over 320 tracks from different types of dinosaurs in a fairly small area. The tracks are easy to see and there’s even one area where you can literally walk in the footprints of dinosaurs. A hundred million years ago, instead of the ridge and foothills that are there now, the area was a flat sandy beach with rivers flowing into the ocean.
At one, about 92 million years ago, everything in Colorado was underwater. There’s proof of that with ripple marks at Dinosaur Ridge and you can also find seashells in the Morrison and Golden areas, among other spots in Colorado.
On the other side of the ridge, which is right across from the 300 million year old Red Rocks, is an area where you can see the evidence of rivers that were like braided rivers in a swamp or bog area that flowed into the ocean. You can see the stream channels, bones in boulders and rocks, and even a cross section view, or sideways view, of dinosaur footprints. The sandstone on the river side of the ridge is finer than the tracks site side.
Just a short drive away and right across from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden is the 1.5 mile Tricertops Trail. On the trail, you can climb in and out of the areas that were clay pits that have been mined. Left of the sandstone, you can see entire ecosystems from plant fossils to even some T-Rex tracks. It’s free to visit the Triceratops Trail. Just make sure you are wearing comfy shoes and clothes for the walk in and out of pits.
At Dinosaur Ridge, shuttle bus tours last 45 minutes. The tour is $4 for ages 4 and up. Entry into the exhibit hall at the visitor center is $1 for ages 4 and up. Children ages 3 and under are free for both.
Summer camps are back this year at Dinosaur Ridge. They are offered several weeks this summer. Cost is $275 for members and $300 for non-members. Yearly family memberships are $40 and individual is $25.
If you want a great hike, then head up on the Dakota Ridge Trail on top of Dinosaur Ridge. It’s about 2.2 miles from the trailhead at Dinosaur Ridge over to the parking lot near I-70. Just watch out for rattlesnakes along the top of the ridge, just like you’ll find hiking in other spots like Green Mountain and even in Red Rocks Park.

Bull Creek Project - Colorado
The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation partnered with a conservation-minded landowner, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) and Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) to permanently protect 524 acres of prime wildlife habitat in west-central Colorado.
“We appreciate the private landowners for recognizing the important wildlife values of their land and taking action to permanently protect it,” said Blake Henning, RMEF chief conservation officer.
Located about 35 miles east of Grand Junction, the Bull Creek project provides summer, winter and transitional range as well as a migration corridor through adjacent Bureau of Land Management land for elk and mule deer. It’s also an important calving ground for elk and lies within Colorado’s Grand Mesa, the largest flat top mountain in the world.
“Projects such as Bull Creek and partnerships with Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation highlight the very core of our conservation values and beliefs,” said J.T. Romatzke, CPW area wildlife manager. “The ability to ensure the perpetuation of elk habitat and benefits to sportsman is nothing more than exceptional. It is an honor for CPW to collaborate with RMEF and many others on projects that truly have longevity and resource purpose.”
In addition to providing quality habitat for big game, birds and other animal life, the property also includes vital riparian habitat. It encompasses more than three miles of waterways including the South Canal and a portion of Bull Creek.
Nearly half of the project’s funding came from a Great Outdoors Colorado grant. The organization invests a portion of Colorado Lottery proceeds in projects that protect or enhance Colorado’s parks, trails, rivers, open space and wildlife heritage.
“It’s critical for Colorado’s future that we have families like this one with the vision to permanently protect their land. GOCO is proud to have invested critical funding to help bring that vision to fruition and protect critical wildlife and river habitat,” said Chris Castilian, GOCO executive director.
Since 1987, RMEF and its partners completed 704 conservation and hunting heritage projects in Colorado, including two in Mesa County, with a combined value of more than $161 million dollars. These projects conserved or enhanced 438,443 acres and opened or secured access to 108,179 acres.
About the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation:
Founded over 30 years ago, fueled by hunters and a membership of more than 220,000 strong, RMEF has conserved more than 7.1 million acres for elk and other wildlife. RMEF also works to open and improve public access, fund and advocate for science-based resource management, and ensure the future of America’s hunting heritage.
