Things to do in Arizona --- Salt River Tubing
A top summer activity in Arizona is tubing the Salt River in the Tonto National Forest!
Make sure to grab a recreation pass to park in this area (we didn't know this!) You can buy them at all Circle K's in the area and some other select convenience stores.
Two ways to tube
1. Salt River Tubing Company - ($17)
2. Buy your own tubes and go with some friends -- take two cars and park 1 at stop 4 and one car wherever you choose to start (stop 1 or 2)
So refreshing and chill!

Salt River Tubing 2017
UPDATE!!
Check out our Salt River PSA for 2018! Don't miss out on this years river adventure.
In this episode, the gang embarks down Phoenix Arizona's salt river the summer of 2017. Sun, suds, and slathering on copious amounts of the strongest suntan lotion we could find. We hope you enjoy and find yourself taking a trip down the river in 2018.
Lower Salt River in Mesa Arizona
The Salt River is formed by the confluence of the White River and Black River in the White Mountains of eastern Gila County. The White and Black rivers, and other tributaries of the upper Salt River, drain the region between the Mogollon Rim in the north and the Natanes Mountains and Natanes Plateau to the east and south. Tributaries of the Salt River also drain the Sierra Ancha and Mazatzal Mountains. The White and Black rivers drain the White Mountains in the Fort Apache Indian Reservation. Together the two rivers drain an area of about 1,900 square miles (4,900 km2).[1] The Salt River, along with the Black River, forms the boundary between the Fort Apache Indian Reservation to the north and the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation to the south.
The Salt River is fed by numerous perennial streams that start as springs and seeps along the Mongollon Rim and in the White Mountains. The Salt River is perennial from its tributary headwaters to Granite Reef Diversion Dam near Mesa.

Salt River Tubing for Chris' 40th Birthday!!! (Day 285 - 8.12.2015)

The day starts off with me finishing up the vlog and starting the upload and then heading outside to put on the first of many sunscreen layers so I don't get completely roasted during our 4 hour river tubing adventure for Chris' birthday.
We meet up at Casey Moore's in Tempe before heading out in a Big Orange Bus (large commuter van that transports large groups of people) to the Salt River Recreational facility.
Despite living in Phoenix for more than 13 years I'd never done this before and was blown away by the scenery as we were driving up. Once we got to the rental location, we got our tubes paid for the bus ride and headed up to the start of the tubing area. It took a bit of work but we got all 8 tubes (including the one with the cooler) all secured together so we can have ourselves a good time. And we all sure did.
About a quarter of the way down we hit our first rapids section and I two others in our floatilla got hung up on a big rock. I stood up on the rock to try and get us all free, did so and then slipped and completely fell into the water. A short swim and I was able to get back to my tube and all things said stay pretty well together. Didn't lose anything so that was a plus.
Once back on the float it was a very relaxed couple of hours before we reached the Mud Cliffs and the boys wanted to go cliff jumping. I had zero interest given what is on my travel schedule and my lack of rock climbing ability but the boys did it and had fun.
We finished off our float and then jumped back in the Big Orange Bus and headed back to Casey Moore's for a meal and a couple of drinks before everyone was just wiped out. Chris rode his bike back to his place and after dropping off a new friend, I headed back to Chris' apartment to make sure he was ok. He got pretty burned but overall was in good spirits. I headed back to Ben and Kami's to take a shower and despite all efforts to not go to bed too early was still in bed by 11:30.

The Park of the Canals - Mesa Arizona
Approximately 300 B.C. Prehistoric Indians entered the Salt River valley. They developed an extensive canal system. The Park of the canals preserves about 4,500 feet of ancient canals. The National Geographic Society of Civil Engineers has awarded the Hohokam canal system an award for excellence in prehistoric engineering. The park is open from sun up to 10 p.m. This park is a hidden secret in the middle of Mesa Arizona.

BEST CAMPSITE EVER? Seneca, Salt River, Arizona
When it comes to epic campsites in the state of Arizona, we have a handful of sites that we consider to be the best of the best. To be considered, there's specific criteria that must be met, the first being epic scenery. We have been out to the Seneca Lake, AZ area before but we hadn't been far back into where Tonto National Forest borders the Salt River and the Apache reservation. With several points and tracks marked on the map, we headed out to explore a new area.
The Seneca Lake and Salt River area turned out to be way more beautiful than we thought it would be. We didn't anticipate all the canyon views we enjoyed along the route. We stopped at several points to hike on trails that ran along the cliffs. We found an awesome natural arch, that I didn't include in the video, we can't show you everything! But the true highlight of the trip was the campsite on the cliff above the Salt River. It was truly an amazing spot and a great trail out there. We made the trip a loop by connecting it with a couple other trails that ran through some equally beautiful country. If you would like to know the route we took, please register on our website and send me a message.
As always thank you for watching and sharing with your friends.
We really hope you enjoyed the video and it inspires you to get out there and xploremor.
