Italian Food Tour at Central Market in Florence, Italy
Join us for an Italian Food Tour at Central Market in Florence, Italy as we sample numerous savory and sweet dishes on the second level of the market. Prior to arriving at the Central Market (Mercato Centrale) we had this idea that it would be upscale and touristy with prices to match but were pleasantly surprised by how affordable it was to grab tasty bites on a budget. We ended up spending just over 23 Euros total for the two of us to sample a lot of different food at Florence Central Market (Mercato di San Lorenzo). Here is the list of food items we had at the market:
1) Parmigiano Reggiano (parmesan cheese cubes)
2) Burrata sandwich with prosciutto
3) Trapizzino (pizza dough with a stuffed filling)
4) Arancini (crispy rice balls with a savory filling)
5) Cannoli dessert with gelato inside
6) Malaga gelato (rum and raisin flavored ice cream)

Italian Food Tour at Central Market in Florence, Italy Video Transcript:
It is lunchtime in Florence and we are back at Central Market (Mercato Centrale / Mercato di San Lorenzo). We were here yesterday to buy some produce and a few groceries to cook an Italian meal at home. And then we noticed that on the second floor they have a whole bunch of restaurants and deli shops so we figured let's come back and actually have lunch here.
That is the plan for today. We've just arrived but we're going to have a little wander through to see what is available and then we'll start buying little bites. We've got to scout it out really well before we pick.
We've got our first two items. That kind of startled you there. Yeah, I was admiring my cheese. We got a little cone of parmigiano. Parmesan. Parmigiano Reggiano. This was 3.50 in Euros. The best part is it comes in these massive cubes and you've got this little fork to pierce them with so look at the size of this.
All of the cheeses, the meats, the pastas, the pizzas. Wow. The gelatos. It is like this is really good. Italy is making me chubby.
And you know what is next. This little thing. This little thing. I believe this was called Burrata. And it looks like it this looks like focaccia bread or something. It has kind of been made into a sandwich. It is a sandwich. It has prosciutto. I'll kind of lift it up here so you can see. It appears I could be wrong but it appears to have a some salad. Some salad. Ensalada. I think there is some creamy cheese as well. It was 6 Euros.
We found our next dish. This is called Trapizzino. And it looks amazing. Basically this is pizza dough in the form of a triangle and then it has been stuffed with filling. You can choose what filling you want. They have a whole bunch to choose from but we went with the eggplant and the tomato sauce a little bit of pesto and then parmesan cheese on top coming in at 4 Euros.
Moving on to snack number four. So this is something we've seen a few times and we've wanted to try it. And we've never had it. It is basically a giant crispy rice ball (arancini). Inside there is different flavors. We got the one with prosciutto for 3 Euros.
Alright we're moving on to dessert. What do you got in your hands?
We got two desserts. We did. But let's start with this one. So this is the Cannoli at 3 Euros. And instead of being stuffed with a cream of ricotta it is actually gelato made with ricotta cheese and we got rum and raisin gelato called Malaga at 3.50 Euros.
That brings our total to 23 Euros for two people. Basically 11.50 per person. We got to eat a lot of like amazing delicious food. I mean this far exceeded my expectations.

In this video, I take you on a tour of the San Lorenzo market in Florence, Italy.
If you like to bargain, then this market is an absolute must for you. There are a lot of different stalls, selling the same kind of thing. Take a look around first before buying anything. Get a feel for the prices so you don't get duped.
To get a bargain, you need to be prepared to haggle. Ask for 'special price' and 'best price'.
If you are looking for something specific, then you may need to ask around. I was looking for a pair of leather pants. I asked one guy, who asked another and another, but eventually I found what I was looking for. The leather shopping in San Lorenzo market is great.
Come around a time when you are going to be a little hungry or even starving. There is an amazing food market here. It is two or three levels with all that your heart can desire food wise. Everything from vegan food to meat dishes. If you want something to take back with you to your hotel room or apartment, the supermarket here is the best of Florence.

Street market of San Lorenzo, Ciro and Sons Ristorante, public bus to Piazalle Michelangelo for the classic view of Florence, then walk down the hill to Ponte Vecchio and the open market at Santo Spirito Church, a great place for local crafts and gourmet foods.
Markets (Florence, Italy)
Tour of San Lorenzo, an open bargain market and Central Market, a fesh produce market.
I am going to show you two Florence markets today: San Lorenzo market and mercato centrale or central market. San Lorenzo is an outdoor market while mercato centrale is a great indoor market for fresh produce. At San Lorenzo market, you can find bargains for leather goods. In San Lorenzo market, you can also buy famous Florentine paper. Be sure to bargain hard and watch your backs as it can get crowded. In San Lorenzo market, there is a wide range of pashminas and scarves. No matter what you are looking for, always check the quality. Though the prices are good, sometimes the quality is not so good. Be careful and watch.
On to central market now. Since it is an indoor market, lots of visitors miss it. But as you will see, it is a fantastic place to buy fresh produce and the building is right here in San Lorenzo market. The market has two floors. Generally, fruits and vegetables are on the second floor and cheeses, meats, etc. are on the lower floor. You can even buy some homemade pasta. Central market closes at 2 p.m. so make sure you get here before. I am Ester Salis, showing you Florence.
Leather is everywhere at the San Lorenzo Market
The San Lorenzo Market in Florence has been bustling for decades. Each day, vendors roll out their carts loaded with leather, clothing, pottery and jewelry. This outdoor market is a great place to browse and buy. Be sure to visit all the carts before making your purchase... and yes it is ok the haggle over the price a little.

San Lorenzo Market, a 1 Min Study, Florence, Italy
I've been to many farmer's markets, but the Italians and the French, they have a certain magic in their markets. Here I visit the San Lorenzo market for some morning necessities.
Shopping for a leather jacket in Florence

Buying leather in Florence, Italy
This is a story about a leather jacket that I bought in Florence, Italy in November/10. It ripped when I got it home to Canada, tried to return it in April/11 to the store where I bought it. The guy working there, and the boss man were jerks, and rude, and would not return or exchange it.

San Lorenzo market moved
Florence's world-famous and centuries-old San Lorenzo market has been moved from its historic location. LDM News went to find out this pivotal and controversial move.
Italy Vlog Part III: Shopping in Florence!
This video is about My Movie
Mercato di San Lorenzo and Mercato Centrale in Florence Italy with Frank Mazzuca
Kindy view at 360p min or higher...thanks...enjoy!
San Lorenzo Market (Mercato di San Lorenzo)
This market covers a large area and is the most famous and visited of the markets. It is well positioned to access or come from the rich tapestry of the other sights to see and is not far from the Duomo.
Here you can wine away the hours looking at leather products (hand bags, coats, accessories), clothes (designer styles), souvenirs and a whole host of other items according to the seasons.
Do not forget to bargain hunt and as the market is open Tuesday to Saturday during normal shop hours 07.30 TO 19.00 hrs.(Open also every first Sunday of the month) do not be afraid to come back or go to the next vendor!
While you are in the Piazza it is worth paying just a little attention to the San Lorenzo church, this is one of the oldest churches in the city and just around the corner is the Medici chapel. See my snip it with Marco..a true Medici and famed by his appearances on David Rocco's LA DOLCE VITA on the Food Network. Sam his dog is also famed in the many paintings in Florence too.
This market is a good example of being able to explore two markets in one. As the market runs from the Piazza San Lorenzo up the via dell Ariento to via Nazionale (not forgetting all the side streets). In the via dell Ariento on the right as you are heading north westerly is the Central Market.
Central Market (Mercato Centrale)
The central market is housed in a fabulous 1860's building created when the time of steam dominated the society. You will find some of the best Tuscan food here; try the Tuscan cheeses they are great! A wonder through these stalls will tempt your smell and taste buds. A good tip is to have eaten a bit before you arrive or you will want to buy lots of things.
The market is mainly a morning market and is open from 07.00 to 14.00 every day accept Sunday and public holidays. In the winter it is only open on Saturday and days before holidays. It is also positioned near the main train station so if you come in from your accommodation around there think about visiting it first! You can get to it by the via Nazionale.
Great place to grab some amazing simple food in the market is Nerroni.
ONE WORD OF WARNING: Do Not Touch any of the produce...they freak if you do. I found it out the hard way.
