Sandbars to Sanibel
A film set on Sanibel Island, Florida, an island in the Gulf of Mexico circa 1929. The islands mail girl drenches the mailbag and the whole town fondles a water soaked letter trying desperately to find the recipient, resisting the temptation to read its contents. A love affair ignites, a school house goes bezurk, and a small village becomes re-united. This film is shot entirely hand held, in 24 frames. All 49 actors are townspeople from Sanibel and Captiva with little to no acting experience. All 8 original wood framed knotty pine buildings are tightly positioned on 2 acres, yet they appear miles apart in the film. This film reflects the true characters of Floridas island pioneers. Sandbars to Sanibel is a fun romantic chock full of Easter egg surprises.

Fisherfolk of Southwest Florida | Untold Stories
For more than 6,000 years, Southwest Florida's rich estuaries have been fished for food. In this series historians and long-time commercial fishermen tell the story of Southwest Florida's fisherfolk, from the ancient Calusas, who left a legacy of shell mounds--and more--to the rise and fall of mullet fishing.
The first pages of the early history of Cape Coral, Florida were written in the blood of dead soldiers. But its future came to life in the fertile imagination of dreamers. Before the Rosen brothers conjured up this booming city, the Calusa roamed, Seminoles battled U.S. soldiers, Cracker settlers raised cattle and cut timber and rich northerners fled civilizations to hunt and fish.
The sunshine state has a rich and colorful history. For hundreds of years the state has attracted dreamers, opportunists, inventors and fortune-seekers. WGCU's Untold Stories aims to preserve the history of Southwest Florida communities.

Chuu uganabira! My name is Kathryn and I have been living on the beautiful island of Okinawa for almost a decade. I spend most of my time immersing myself in the culture, learning about the history of the island and way of life past and present. Driving around Sanibel, Florida
Sanibel is a city in Lee County, Florida, United States, on Sanibel Island. The population was 6,469 at the 2010 census, with an estimated 2012 population of 6,741. It is part of the Cape Coral-Fort Myers, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. Sanibel is a barrier island – a collection of sand on the leeward side of the more solid coral-rock of Pine Island.
The city incorporates the entire island, with most of the city proper at the east end of the island. After the Sanibel causeway was built to replace the ferry in May 1963, the residents asserted control over development by establishing the Sanibel Comprehensive Land Use Plan in 1974 helping to maintain a balance between development and preservation of the island's ecology.[4] A new, higher bridge, permitting passage without a bascule bridge (drawbridge) of tall boats and sailboats, was completed in late 2007.
Due to easy causeway access, Sanibel is a popular tourist destination known for its shell beaches and wildlife refuges. More than half of the island is made up of wildlife refuges, the largest being J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge. The Island hosts the Sanibel Historical Village and a variety of other museums and theaters, as well as many non-profit organizations like the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation, the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife, and the Sanibel Sea School.
