Sathuragiri Hills Vathirairuppu [ Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu, India ]
Sathuragiri or Chathuragiri Hills/Malai is situated 13-15 kms from Vathirairuppu near Srivilliputhur in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu, India. Sathuragiri is the Abode of God and is also the abode of thousands of Siddhas including Agastiyar, Gorakkar, Satta Muni, Roma Devar and Sundranandar. It is believed that the Siddhas still worship Lord Shiva from Sathuragiri. So the hills are also known as Sivan Malai. The name Sathuragiri came from chathur, Veda and giri, where all the four Vedas met and formed the hill. Another meaning is that the whole mountain is in a square shape, hence the name Chathuragiri. Sathuragiri is the abode of God. It is otherwise also called as Mahalingam Hill. This is also called as Siddargal boomi. 18 Siddhas were said to live here. This is a mysterious hill where it is believed that Siddhars still worship the lord Shiva. Recently, the public are allowed only six days in a month, three days each during new moon and full moon days.

Wherever you are , you can fly to chennai international airport, located in tamilnadu india Chennai is a metropolitan city you can get 5 start hotel and restaurant to stay.from Chennai you have to travel Madurai via Tiruchirappalli , by car it takes 7 hours , you can also get domestic flight to Madurai airport it takes 1 hour.
In Madurai you can get 3 star hotel for stay. From Madurai you have to travel krishnan kovil bus stop in sri villi puthur road. if you are traveling by bus you have to get down in krishnan kovil bus stop. if you traveling in car or own vehicle you have to break on krishnan kovil bus stop, it takes 1 hour and 30 min
From krishnan kovil bus stop you have to take right and go to watrap , you will get local bus from krishnan kovil bus stop , it will take 15 min .
Watrap is the last local town , after that there is no local town , so if you need anything you can buy it here , from watrap you have to travel Thaaniparai , you can travel by car , if you don't have your own vehicle , you can get auto service from watrap to Thaaniparai , it will take 10 min
Thaaniparai is the starting point of your spiritual trekking . the path fully covered by Reserved forests. so you have to stick with your path , and don't try to go inside the forest . you can leave your vehicle in Thaaniparai.

இத்திருக்கோயில் மதுரை பேரையூர் வட்டம் சாப்டூர் கிராமம் சதுரகிரி மலையின் மீது அமைந்துள்ளது. இத்திருக்கோயிலுக்கு விருதுநகர் மாவட்டம் திருவில்லிபுத்தூர் or ஸ்ரீவில்லிபுத்தூர் வட்டம் வத்திராயிருப்பிலிருந்து சுமார் 9 கி.மீ. தூரத்தில் மலையின் அடிவாரம் தாணிப்பாறை உள்ளது.
தாணிப்பாறையிலிருந்து சுமார் 6 கி.மீ. தூரத்தில் மலைப்பாதை வழியாகச் சென்றால் திருக்கோயிலை அடையலாம். மதுரை மாவட்டம் பேரையூர் வட்டம் சாப்டூர் வழியாக சுமார் 15 கி.மீ. தூரத்திற்க்கு திருக்கோவில் வரை ஒரு மலைப்பாதையும் அமைத்துள்ளது. இத்திருக்கோயில் மலையின் மேல் தரை மட்டத்திலிருந்து சுமார் 4500 அடி அமைத்துள்ளது.
இத்தலத்தை சுற்றி நான்கு பக்கங்களிலும் ஒவ்வொரு பக்கத்திற்க்கு நான்கு கிரிகள் வீதம் பதினாறு கிரிகள் சதுரமாக சூழ்ந்துள்ளதால் சதுரகிரி எனும் பெயர் அமைத்துள்ளது. இத்தகு பெருமை வாய்ந்த திருத்தலத்தில் சிவபெருமான் சுந்தரமகாலிங்கம் என்னும் பெயரில் சுயம்பு லிங்கமாக காட்சியளிக்கிறார். ஆகையால் இத்தலம் சதுரகிரி அருள்மிகு சுந்தரமகாலிங்க சுவாமி திருக்கோயில் என அழைக்கப்படலாயிற்று.

VIRUDHUNAGAR:The death toll in the flash flood at Sathuragiri Hills increased to eight as two more bodies were recovered here on Tuesday.
Official sources said four teams comprising officials from the Forest Department and the Fire and Rescue Services carried out a search in the Sathuragiri Hills near Srivilliputhur in the morning, as three people were reported missing.
The teams searched from Thaaniparai to Pilavadiyar Karuppusamy Temple in the hills.

This is my trip to Velliangiri Hills trekking. It was a great experience to be there. Atlast i got some clean air on the hill. It took me 6 hours to reach the top of the hill and another 5 hours to reach the bottom of the hill. It depends on your fitness level. Some people took 10-12 hours to reach the top.

Agasthyarkoodam is a 1,868-metre (6,129 ft)-tall peak lies in the border of Kerala and Tamil Nadu in the Western Ghats of South India. This is the third highest peak in Tamil Nadu after Ooty and Kodaikanal. This peak is a part of the Agasthyamala Biosphere Reserve which lies on the border between the Indian states of Tamil Nadu (in Kanyakumari district, Tirunelveli district) and Kerala (in Pathanamthitta, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram districts). The perennial Thamirabarani River originates from the eastern side of the range and flows into the Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu.
Agasthyarkoodam is a pilgrimage centre for devotees of the Hindu sage Agastya
