6. The SS America 1898
This awesomely named ship was one of the victims of the Isle royale, previously mentioned. Built in 1898, it sank 30 years later in 1928, striking a reef and capsizing off the coast of the island. It had a bumpy history in this area of the great lakes and had a similar incident in 1924, the only difference being that she was refloated, repaired and returned to service. In 1927, she took some damage by colliding with another steamboat but would make it out alive. In 1928, she was on her normal route from the town of Duluth Minnesota when the captain decided to hand over the wheel to the first mate for 5 minutes until it hit a reef again, this time it would not be able to float again. A group of divers during the 1960’s attempted to raise the ship and put her in service as a museum ship unsuccessfully. Today you can still visit the SS America which is only sitting about 85 feet below the surface.
5. USS Keystone State
In November 1861, members of the Wisconsin militia were expecting a large shipment of weapons from the large ship called the USS Keystone state, but they never got their arms. This was an elaborate ship and was dubbed the Palace Steamers from it’s comfortable design. Certainly no ordinary cargo ship. With a crew of 33 people, it left Detroit and was set to land in Milwaukee but this never happened! The people who expected the delivery thought the ship just sort of vanished in mid air. Finally in 2013 the ship was found at the bottom of Lake Huron, near the city of Alpena. The scuba explorers who made the remarkable discovery, believe it was from a storm that hit the area, but this has not been proven. They unfortunately found no gold that was rumored to be on board nor the remains of the crew on board which lead many to speculate. Or did they...
4. SS Chester A. Congdon
This large steel freighter was one of the largest shipwrecks that took place in the early 1900’s and it was named after a lawyer and capitalist Chester Adgate Congdon. It sank in lake superior also near Isle royal and is still located at the bottom of the lake. It was set to deliver 380,000 bushels of wheat from Thunder Bay, Canada but was couldn’t see to well when fog filled the area. Luckily, all the crew was saved and about 20 percent of the cargo was retrieved but the wreck proved to lose a ton of money. The congdon was valued at over 1 million dollars which was the most expensive wreck up until that time at the great lakes.
3. Samuel P. Ely
Another schooner from the 19th century, the Samuel P, Ely was first launched in 1869 it often transported large amounts of iron ore and coal around the Great lakes region. It would often travel from Escanaba, Michigan to Cleveland, ohio. After about 28 years of service, in october of 1896, she traveled from Kelley’s Island in Ohio to Duluth minnesota carrying a large load of limestone. After dropping off the cargo, their next trip was to two harbors, minnesota. While the samuel P. Ely was being towed a storm came out of nowhere during the evening. The crew decided to drop anchor and see if they could ride it out but to no avail. The crew was able to escape drowning by climbing on to the rigging of the masts. A small sailboat was sent to rescue them and it took a total of 3 trips. It’s still in Lake superior to this day despite deterioration and erosion from scuba divers.
2.Sweepstakes Schooner
The sweepstakes schooner was a Canadian vessel that was constructed in Ontario in 1867. It was a double massed wooden ship that measured 119 feet in length and weighed about 218 tonnes. It was badly damaged off the coast of Cove Island in august of 1885 and was in need of quick repairs but it was already too late. The ship was transporting large amounts of coal and another ship was sent in the retrieve the cargo. In modern times, many describe as being remarkably well preserved despite it being made from wood. It currrently sits in lake huron only about 20 feet below. Despite the sweepstakes decaying a little more each year, it’s said that it’ss one of the best preserved 19th century great lake schooners of the great lakes and many people will visit the fathom five national marine park to come check it out.

MAY, 1945 U.S. COAST GUARD DIGEST #1 WWII NEWSREEL FATE OF LST 884 SPARs OKINAWA 52044a
U.S. Coast Guard Motion Picture Digest May 1945 is a silent newsreel-style film of the events of World War II in April and May 1945 that involved the U.S. Coast Guard. The first clip is of the damage done by “fire and exploding ammunition stowed on [the] tank deck aboard LST 884.” The ship was hit by a Japanese kamikaze plane near Okinawa on 1 April 1945. Viewers see the damage caused by the hit, as well as a soldier washing a small dog in a washbasin. In the next clip, SPARs (Coast Guard women—the name stems from the branch’s motto, semper paratus or “always ready”) walk through Aiea Hospital in Honolulu and visit the wounded men there (01:33). On 8 April in Okinawa, Coast Guard men help unload boxes of supplies from a ship. The clip shows some men digging foxholes. The next segment shows American citizens (mainly of Japanese heritage) en route to the U.S. aboard the USS Admiral Eberle. Recently liberated from internment camps, the American citizens are entertained by the 11th ND Coast Guard Band; men and women dance on the deck of the ship to the band’s music (04:55). Men aboard the USCGC Tupelo place a massive buoy in Sumay Harbor, Guam on 16 April (06:06). After the buoy is placed, its massive anchor is maneuvered off the cutter. A Coast Guard-manned LST flotilla makes its way to Ulithi after the Okinawa invasion (08:06); men make onboard repairs of an LST as the flotilla sails. LST 887 takes on supplies from AKA 106 in Ulithi on 25 April 1945 (09:43). A Coast Guard-manned FS (freight and supply Army ship) is loaded with trucks and barrels while at San Pedro Bay, Leyte (10:27). The film then shows Americans in Times Square on 7 May celebrating VE Day (11:59). In the next clip, viewers see the surrender of the German submarine U-858 off Cape May. Members of the press and photographers are carried on USCGCs Nike and Pandora. A dirigible flies above the the sub. The German prisoners are searched as they are taken aboard a U.S. ship. U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Comdr. R. Edge, makes a documentary recording of the surrender of Germany’s U-805 submarine near Casco Bay on 17 May (15:43). Edge narrates the events into a microphone. U.S. troops guard the German prisoners. In New York City, Rear Admiral Reid awards decorations to Coast Guard officers and men of the destroyer escorts Pride, Mosley, Menges, and Lowe for breaking up a German submarine offensive during the final stages of the war. The film then shows air-sea rescue tests of the Army’s 85-foot rescue boats off Key West, Florida (18:57). The boats fly across the water. The USS Wakefield returns from the Mediterranean with 6,000 troops of the 15th Air Force; the ship arrives in Boston on 26 May 1945 (19:40), where it docks, ending the film.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain

SUMMARY
=======
Milwaukee (, locally ) is the largest city in the state of Wisconsin and the fifth-largest city in the Midwestern United States. The seat of the eponymous county, it is on Lake Michigan's western shore. Ranked by its estimated 2014 population, Milwaukee was the 31st largest city in the United States. The city's estimated population in 2017 was 595,351. Milwaukee is the main cultural and economic center of the Milwaukee metropolitan area which had a population of 2,043,904 in the 2014 census estimate. It is the third-most densely populated metropolitan area in the Midwest, surpassed only by Chicago and Detroit, respectively .Milwaukee is considered a Gamma global city as categorized by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network with a regional GDP of over $105 billion.
The first Europeans to pass through the area were French Catholic Jesuit missionaries, who were ministering to Native Americans, and fur traders. In 1818, the French Canadian explorer Solomon Juneau settled in the area, and in 1846, Juneau's town combined with two neighboring towns to incorporate as the city of Milwaukee. Large numbers of German immigrants arrived during the late 1840s, after the German revolutions, with Poles and other eastern European immigrants arriving in the following decades. Milwaukee is known for its brewing traditions, begun with the German immigrants.
Beginning in the early 21st century, the city has been undergoing its largest construction boom since the 1960s. Major new additions to the city in the past two decades include the Milwaukee Riverwalk, the Wisconsin Center, Miller Park, The Hop (streetcar system), an expansion to the Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee Repertory Theater, and Pier Wisconsin, as well as major renovations to the UW–Milwaukee Panther Arena. The Fiserv Forum opened in late 2018.

How Tugboat Works
A tugboat (tug) is a boat that maneuvers vessels by pushing or towing them. Tugs move vessels that either should not move themselves, such as ships in a crowded harbor or a narrow canal, or those that cannot move by themselves, such as barges, disabled ships, log rafts, or oil platforms. Tugboats are powerful for their size and strongly built, and some are ocean-going. Some tugboats serve as icebreakers or salvage boats. Early tugboats had steam engines, but today most have diesel engines. Many tugboats have firefighting monitors, allowing them to assist in firefighting, especially in harbors.
