Renovations
Unfortunately, this memorial was overlooked for several years and was in a bad condition. The structure had gathered moss on the hall, due to the seepage of rain water. Rain and moisture had damaged the upper storey of the building, constructed in yellow stone, which had acquired a grayish look. The roof was also damaged, allowing the rain water to seep into the hall, damaging the carvings.
The beautiful structure is now getting restored to its original looks. The moss from the delicate and porous yellow stones was cleaned using pressure machines.
The building's supporting terrace is completely restored now. A water repellent roof was reconstructed to ensure that water does not seep inside, in future.
The first phase of the restoration is over.
In second phase, it has been planned to replace the old English styled window panes, with newer ones. Second phase will resume after the monsoon season.

पानिपतच्या तिसर्या लढाईनंतर महादजी शिंदे यांनी मराठा साम्राज्याला पुन्हा उभारी मिळवून देण्याचे काम केले.[२] पहिल्या इंग्रज मराठा युद्धामध्ये त्यांच्या नेतृत्वाखाली मराठा फौजांनी काही लढायांमध्ये ब्रिटिशांचा निर्णायक पराभव केला व इंग्रजांना तह करण्यास भाग पाडले. १२ फेब्रुवारी, इ.स. १७९४ रोजी वयाच्या ६७व्या वर्षी त्यांचे निधन झाले.[३]
इ.स. १७९४ सालाच्या सुमारास वर्तमान शिंद्यांच्या छत्रीच्या जागी महादजीने बांधवलेले शिवालय होते. महादजी शिंदे यांच्या मॄत्यूनंतर त्यांचे अंत्यसंस्कार याच जागेत करण्यात आले. समाधीच्या बाजूला मोठे शिवमंदिर आहे. मंदिरावर अप्रतिम नक्षीकाम व रंगकाम केलेले आहे. स्मारकाच्या पुनर्बांधणीकरिता ग्वाल्हेरच्या श्रीमंत माधवराव शिंद्यांनी देणगी दिली आहे.

Chhatri also called Shinde Chatri is a beautiful architectural memorial in Wanowrie. It is dedicated to the great soldier, Mahadji Shinde. For twenty years, between 1760 and 1780, he served as the commander-in-chief of the Maratha army under the Peshwas. The entire complex of the memorial also consists of a temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, which was built by Mahadji himself, in the year 1794. He left for the holy abode the same year and in 1965, Madhavrao Sindhia got the entire complex built, along with the samadhi (memorial).The major attraction of the Shinde Chatri of Poona is its exquisite architecture, reflecting the style used in Rajasthan, India. Even years after its construction, the memorial retains its architectural designs and beauty and seems to be totally unaffected by time. Presently the Shindyanchi Chhatri of Pune is under the management of the Sindhia Devasthan Trust of Gwalior.

महादजी शिंदे (जन्म : इ.स. १७३०; मृत्यू : १२ फेब्रुवारी १७९४ हे पेशवाईतील एक मुत्सद्दी. होते. पुणे शहरात त्यांचे शिंद्यांची छत्री या नावाचे स्मारक आहे.

Shinde Chhatri (Marathi : शिंदे छत्री), located in Wanawadi, a well known place in Pune, India, is a memorial dedicated to the 18th century military leader Mahadji Shinde who served as the commander-in-chief of the Maratha army under the Peshwas from 1760 to 1780. It is one of the most significant landmarks in the city and is reminiscent of the Maratha rule. It is a hall that marks the spot of Mahadji Shinde's cremation on 12 February 1794.
