Acadia National Park in 4K - Bass Harbor Lighthouse!
Marking the entrance to Bass Harbor as well as Blue Hill Bay, the Bass Harbor Lighthouse on Mount Desert Island in Tremont, Maine was built in 1858. A fog bell and tower were added in 1876.
The lighthouse, situated on Acadia National Park land, stands 56 feet above mean high water and is accessible by car off of State Route 102A. The keeper's house is currently being used for Coast Guard housing.
As you arrive in the parking area, you will note a walking path to the left. This leads to a stairway that will take you down the face of the cliff to an oceanside observation area. The path to the right of the building leeds to a vantage point that provides a panoramic view of the ocean.
Only the grounds are open to the public. Occasional tours are conducted by the Tremont Historical Society. To inquire, call 207.244.9753.

Another Day, Another Walk in Acadia National Park - Bass Harbor Marsh to Seawall Campground
Today I walked a fire road that goes across a good bit of the southern part of MDI starting at the Bass Harbor Marsh and ending at the Seawall Campground. The walk there and back is between 5 and 6 miles so I only did part of it today because if impending rain.
Ocean Path - Acadia National Park Trail
This was taken while walking by the ocean on the last day of my vacation July 19, 2014. This is the first video I successfully made using a phone. I was in a hurry making this one because the one I spent 45 minutes making while going the opposite direction on the path did not record. I'm pleased with this video because it reminds me of this awesome day at Acadia Park, makes me feel like I'm right there again enjoying the best of both worlds hiking and the ocean.

JORDAN POND HIKING TRAIL, ACADIA NATIONAL PARK
This is a nice afternoon hike from Jordan Pond to Northeast Harbor, Maine. The name of the hiking trail is the asticou trail and it comes out by the thuya gardens in Northeast Harbor, just a short walk from town. The gardens are free to the public, and the hiking trail passes through nice shaded woods for the most part, crossing over streams along the way.

ASTICOU TRAIL.TO THUYA GARDENS, ACADIA NATIONAL PARK
The Asticou hiking trail begins behind the Jordan Pond Tea House, a short path through the woods leads to a carriage road and several hiking trail heads. The trail states its 1.9 miles, but it feels more like 3.9, at least on a hot day. The trail mainly stays to the woods, passing over a stream here and there. There are some sections with roots and rocks, and there are some stone steps here and there, but much of the trail is easy going. A while after turning onto the Thuya Gardens path, the trail becomes more groomed and you get a sense you are indeed approaching gardens. The gardens themselves are within a fenced in area, but there are several wooden doors you can enter them from along the trail. As your leaving the garden area, there are some great views of the harbor. There are also several wooden huts you can take paths to with places to sit that all offer up great views of the harbor and boats in the distance.
Beech Mountain Hike in Acadia National Park, Maine, June 2009
Awful Blair Witch Project-style filming!
Hiking at Wonderland (exploring the Maine coastline)
Rather secluded rock beach on the far south side of Mt Desert Island in Maine. The area is called Wonderland and the trail that roughly follows the shoreline is an offshoot of the Wonderland trail which seemingly goes on forever (I never found the end of it.) And there is a maze of trails that intersect Wonderland. You can hike the trail or wander off the trail to the shoreline with its many pathways.
CADILLAC MOUNTAIN. NORTH RIDGE HIKING TRAIL, ACADIA NATIONAL PARK
This is the Cadillac Mountain North Ridge hiking trail, on decent. The park service does not mark the trail heads on the summit of Cadillac, but since there are only two, I will make it easy to figure out. At the summit, look for a long pair of stone steps leading down a steep banking. This is the start of the Cadillac Mountain North Ridge Trail. The start of the trail on the summit end is not marked well, look around for rock piles and/or paint markings on the ground. Once you get started, the trail than becomes much easier to follow and is marked much better. The trail ends at the one way section of the park loop road. In late June through mid October you can catch the free Island Explorer buses where the trail ends at the roadway.
