Broken down in Reno, NV - RV Living
Hang on to your hats folks, this is a long one...while we're broken down in Reno, NV with transmission issues, we take the opportunity to explore Reno and the surrounding areas. We learn all about the tragedy of the Donner Party at Donner Memorial State Park before heading up to ride the Donner Pass Bike Trail through the old train tunnels and snow sheds. Next, we head to Lake Tahoe where we enjoy hiking the East Shore Trail and peering over the Fanny Bridge down to the crystal clear waters of Lake Tahoe below. In between all the exploring, we navigate our way through our van's transmission repair saga. Donner Pass tries to take another victim as our transmission woes go from bad to worse... will we ever make it out of Reno?

Ruins of Pompeii: Walking Tour (With Music)
Here is the link to an updated Pompeii walk:
Take a 2-hour walk around the ruins of Pompeii. Pompeii is located near the Bay of Naples. It was destroyed in 79 A.D. when Mt. Vesuvius erupted and covered the city in a blanket of ash. While most Pompeiians had time to flee, over 2,000 people died. Pompeii was rediscovered in 1758 by a group of explorers. The excavation process continues to this today with one-third of the city still waiting to be unearthed. Now the city acts as a window into the ancient past. You can see the streets, buildings, houses and even the remains of the victims, just as they were almost 2,000 years ago.

'NDRANGHETA - WikiVidi Documentary
The 'Ndràngheta is an organized crime group centered in Calabria, Italy. Despite not being as famous abroad as the Sicilian Mafia, and having been considered more rural than the Neapolitan Camorra and the Apulian Sacra Corona Unita, the 'Ndrangheta became the most powerful crime syndicate in Italy in the late 1990s and early 2000s. While commonly tied together with the Sicilian Mafia, the 'Ndrangheta operates independently from them, though there is contact between the two, due to the geographical proximity and shared culture and language between Calabria and Sicily. A US diplomat estimated that the organization's narcotics trafficking, extortion and money laundering activities accounted for at least 3% of Italy's GDP in 2010. Since the 1950s, the organization has spread towards Northern Italy and worldwide. According to a 2013 Threat Assessment on Italian Organised Crime of Europol, the 'Ndrangheta is among the richest and most powerful organised crime groups at a global level....

The ship was as big as a shopping mall, it was dark, there was absolute chaos, men were pushing women away, children in the back. The reason these people died is not because of captain Schettino, the reason these people died was because the corporations were negligent in practices and safety procedures. There was no reason for anyone to die.

I believe that Schettino will try to distribute the responsibility a bit to the rest of the crew, especially those officers who were on the command deck. From the experts' report there are some elements proving that he was not assisted in the right way by his officers. Maybe he will also try to dump the responsibility on several mechanical breakdowns that occurred.

STORYLINE
The former captain of the shipwrecked Costa Concordia cruise liner came to an Italian court on Monday to hear the evidence against him.
The preliminary hearing also was attended by passengers who survived the collision in January in which 32 people died.
During Monday's hearing experts will present the analysis of the data coming from the black-box and recording of the voices on the command deck.
The giant cruise ship struck a reef off the Tuscan island of Giglio on January 13, after Captain Francesco Schettino veered off course and steered the liner close to shore in an apparent stunt.
Thirty-two passengers and crew members died in the frantic and delayed evacuation.
Schettino has been jailed for investigation of manslaughter, abandoning ship and causing a shipwreck and after a period of house arrest is now free to move only in his hometown Meta di Sorrento, near Naples.
The trial is still in its preliminary investigations stage and neither Schettino nor Costa have been indicted yet.
Any trial is unlikely to begin before next year.
