It is the place where the original song Silent Night, Holy night was first performed on December 24, 1818 by its composer Franz Gruber and texter Josef Mohr. After more than 40,000 views I took this video down 3 years ago because of many bad comments and mailings. So this time I deactivated the comment section. Hope you understand.
Noch einmal lade ich das Video der Feierlichkeiten bei der Stille Nacht-Kapelle in Oberndorf, Salzburg, Österreich, von Weihnachten 2008 hoch. An diesem Ort wurde das berühmte Weihnachtslied Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht erstmals von seinem Komponisten Franz Gruber und Texter Josef Mohr gespielt und gesungen.
Nach über 40.000 Aufrufen löschte sich das Video vor 3 Jahren auf Youtube wegen zahlreicher negativer Kommentare, bzw. emails; weshalb ich die Kommentare dieses Mal deaktiviere.

The version sung by Bing Crosby in 1935 is the fourth best-selling single of all-time.

Alljährlich findet am 24. Dezember vor der Stille Nacht Kapelle in Oberndorf bei Salzburg - dem Uraufführungsort des berühmten Weihnachtsliedes - die Stille Nacht Feier statt. Die Feier wird seit 2002 auch live ins Internet übertragen, zum Ende der Veranstaltung werden alle sechs Strophen des Weihnachtsliedes in der Original-Besetzung aufgeführt.
Es war am 24. Dezember des Jahres 1818, als der damalige Hilfspriester Herr Joseph Mohr bei der neu errichteten Pfarre St. Nicola in Oberndorf dem Organistendienst vertretenden Franz Gruber (damals zugleich auch Schullehrer in Arnsdorf) ein Gedicht überreichte, mit dem Ansuchen eine hierauf passende Melodie für 2 Solostimmen sammt Chor und für eine Guitarre-Begleitung schreiben zu wollen.

The Silent Night Chapel (Stille Nacht Kapelle) is located in Oberndorf, Austria as a dedication to the timeless Christmas carol, Stille Nacht or Silent Night. Silent Night was first performed at St. Nicholas Church (once stood on the site of the current chapel) on December 24, 1818 by vocals and a guitar. The lyrics were written by pastor Joseph Mohr and the music was composed by Franz Xaver Gruber. I show the chapel located in Oberndorf which is about a 30-minute train ride north of Salzburg, Austria.
In 1992, an exact replica of the Silent Night Chapel was built in Frankenmuth, MI by Wally Bronner in front of Bronner's CHRISTmas Wonderland. The chapel in Frankenmuth was built on three conditions:
1. The chapel must match (as close as possible) the chapel in Oberndorf.
2. It must not be used as a place of worship or for services.
3. Information must be given about the original chapel in Oberndorf.
I get the chance to visit both chapels: the original in Austria and the replica in Michigan. Both are incredibly beautiful to see and are highly recommended!

Von den ursprünglich sechs Strophen werden in der allgemein bekannten Fassung nur die erste, zweite und letzte Strophe gesungen. 2011 wurde Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht von der UNESCO als immaterielles Kulturerbe in Österreich anerkannt.
