Istanbul Sirkeci Terminal, also known as Istanbul Terminal (Turkish: İstanbul Garı), is a railway terminal in Istanbul. The Terminal is located on the tip of Istanbul's historic peninsula right next to the Golden Horn and just northwest of Gülhane Park and the famous Topkapı Palace. Sirkeci Terminal, along with Haydarpaşa Terminal on the other side of the Bosphorus, are Istanbul's two intercity and commuter railway terminals. Built in 1890 by the Oriental Railway as the eastern terminus of the world famous Orient Express, Sirkeci Terminal has become a symbol of the city. As of 19 March 2013 service to the station had been indefinitely suspended due to the rehabilitation of the existing line between Kazlıçeşme and Halkalı for the new Marmaray commuter rail line. On 29 October 2013, a new underground station opened to the public and is currently serviced by Marmaray trains travelling across the Bosphorus. Sirkeci Terminal has a total of 4 platforms (3 above, 1 underground) with 7 tracks (5 above, 2 underground). Formerly, commuter trains to Halkalı would depart from tracks 2, 3 and 4 while Regional trains to Kapıkule, Edirne and Uzunköprü along with International trains to Bucharest, Sofiya and Belgrade would depart from tracks 1 and 5.

Marmaray is a 76.6 km long rail line in Istanbul, Turkey. The line has 36 stations between Halkalı and Gebze. The tube tunnel is 1.36 km long and is connecting Asia and Europe. The Sirkeci Station (Marmaray Sirkeci İstasyonu) is the first station when the train arrives the European side, in the old city. We are leaving the train and walking to the exit, which is located inside the old train station.

Sirkeci means vinegar-maker/seller in Turkish, but this district between Sultanahmet and Eminönü, very near Galata Bridge and the Golden Horn, is known not for its vinegar but for its hotels, restaurants and transport.
It's transport that made Sirkeci (SEER-keh-jee) what it is. The Ottoman sultan built Istanbul's European railroad terminus, Istanbul Gar on the Golden Horn right beneath the walls of Topkapı Palace, and soon the elegant sleeping and dining cars of the Orient Express were disgorging their distinguished passengers into the hubbub of cosmopolitan Constantinople
irkeci's hotels offer the advantages of being only a 10- or 12-minute walk (or a short tram ride) from Sultanahmet, an even shorter walk to the Eminönü ferry docks, Egyptian (Spice) Bazaar and the Galata Bridge over the Golden Horn. In general, prices for Sirkeci hotels and restaurants are lower than comparable hotels in other districts bordering Sultanahmet (such as Cankurtaran, Binbirdirek and Küçük Ayasofya) just because Sirkeci is the newcomer to the Sultanahmet hotel scene.

With the construction of the new Marmaray commuter rail system, the original Istanbul Suburban Railway line will be changed forever. Every station on the line shall be rebuilt along with the tracks and even the old centenary support beams.
Since the new route of Marmaray will diverge off the original railway at Kazlıçeşme, to head into the Trans-Bosphorus tunnel, the fate of the portion from Kazlıçeşme to Sirkeci is still unclear. Some say that the line will torn up and turned into a long park along the Marmara Sea, others deny this and say that the railway will still be used by intercity trains.
In any case, this video is historic as the scenes captured he will never been seen again in real life.

New Ankara Express night train is passing through Sirkeci station to enter Marmaray tunnel which connects Asian and European sides under Istanbul Strait. The train is operating between Ankara and Istanbul (Halkalı) with 3 types of wagons; coach, dining and sleeping cars.

Sirkeci is part of the Eminönü district in Istanbul, Turkey and is close to many of the famous historical attractions of this cultural city.
It is incredibly vibrant, with cheap street food to chic restaurants and souvenir shops as well as the famous Egyptian Bazaar in this area. Attractions in this area include the majestic New Mosque or Yeni Cami and Galata Bridge, where you can see fishermen angling for mullet and sardines.
Remember to try the Balik Ekmek, or Fish Bread, prepared onboard stationary boats that faciliate as kitchens. I recommend trying Salep - made of orchid root powder and milk - as well! It is a wonderful treat on a cold day after strolling along the pier.
At the end of the day, do catch the Hodjapasha Dance Show, its an exciting cultural showcase of dance performances from Turkey and around the region.

Historical remains under the Haydarpasa Railway Station in Istanbul | Travel Guide
I didn't go for a long time to the old railway station on the Asian Side of Istanbul.
The station is located in the Kadıköy district and the name is Haydarpaşa Garı. (Haydarpasha Station). The construction of the neoclassical building started in 1906 and finished 1909. The foundation of the station is based on 1100 wooden piles and each of them is 21 metres long.
I know that it is not used since a long time as a station. A fire destroyed the roof 2010. It was a sad moment to see this building burning.
And 2012 the Station closed totally because of the new metro system. There were even claims that the government was planning to sell the historic railway station and the Port of Haydarpaşa (Haydarpaşa Limani) to turn it into a residence resort. But later it was announced that the terminal will continue to serve as the high speed train station after the renovation.
Another interesting topic is that historical remains were recently found under the rails of the station. Archeologists believe the remains are scattered on an area of 300 decades. This was the main reason why i went to the Haydarpaşa Railway Station that day.
I also went to Mythos Restaurant, the old Gar Lokantasi (restaurant) which has a new operator since 2011.
