THE MUSEUM OF THE SLOVAK VILLAGE
Hello and welcome to my channel.
The Museum of the Slovak Village production was recorded in 2008.The large open air Museum of the Slovak Village is located on the outskirts of the city of Martin in Slovakia. The museum was established in the 1960 by the Slovak National Museum.
It represents northwest Slovakian traditional folk architecture, typical in its habitation and lifestyle of traditional rural communities in Slovakia from the 19th to the early 20th century.
Visitors can also see interesting technical objects, such as vegetable flax oil production, worsted production and weaving cloth. These buildings are from different regions in Slovakia, Orava, Liptov, Turiec, Kysuce and Podjavorniky.
At the Museum of the Slovak Village, various events are held every year. These whole-day events show or reconstruct traditional professions, production and handicrafts, ceremonies, traditional manners and folklore.

SLOVAKIA: ARTISTS COMPLAIN ABOUT GOVERNMENT CONTROLLING THEIR WORK

Slovakia's artists are up in arms over alleged attempts by Ivan Hudec, the Minister of Culture, to control their work.
They accuse Hudec of removing directors of theatres, museums and cultural centres he considers to be anti-government and anti-Slovak.
Hudec denies the allegations, he says he has never abused his position to carry out personnel changes.
Last week in Parliament Hudec survived a second vote of no-confidence proposed by the opposition.
The reason for the vote was Hudec's increasingly close control of Slovakian cultural life.
According to the opposition the Minister of Culture abused his powers, mishandling finances and replacing disobedient directors of theatres, museums, and cultural centres that are under the ministry.
But the opposition couldn't win enough support for their proposal.

We didn't succeed to vote the minister out of office, because reasonable arguments have no value in this Parliament. What counts is simply having a majority, motivated by servile relationship of servants and their master.

The ruling party stood behind Hudec, who is a good friend of Prime Minister Vladimir Meciar, the strongman Prime Minister of Slovakia.

Show me a country that is run by a minority. I do not know of such a country. After all, we have adopted this political system from other democratic countries. The one who wins the democratic elections then governs.

Meanwhile many artists agree with the opposition: they also accuse Hudec of trying to control their work.
Rudolf Sikora, a noted painter, photographer and art teacher, compares it with the communist years when people like Hudec divided them as pro-socialist and anti- socialist artists.

Now they have divided us as Slovak and anti-Slovak. They would label us anti-Slovak elements, traitors, cosmopolitans, lickers of the West and so on.

The arts world also says that many disobedient directors of theatres, museums and cultural centres, simply have been replaced.

Clearly, the people who were not willing to listen to the orders from the Ministry of Culture, those who supported the independent movement Let's save the culture are simply being removed.

I've never abused my position to carry out personnel changes. I've made many compromises. Unfortunately, the facts are being interpreted in a very wrong way. I do not care for example: what play will be performed, who will direct them, or will choose them. Such approach of a minister has no place in a democratic society.

But for many artists it seems that the political system that broke down in 1989 has been replaced by another totalitarian system.

What Mr. Hudec is doing is damaging the Slovak culture very much. And not only the Slovak culture - the whole country. What he is doing is very bad advertisement for Slovakia.

Now nationalism - instead of communism - appears to be the ruling doctrine in today's Slovakia.

ITALIANSKONSULTING Ltd. and non profit organization ASPIM EUROPA SLOVAKIA, under the auspices of Italian and Slovak institutions, in cooperation with the City of Bratislava and the Bratislava Culture and Information Centre, organized the first edition of the International Festival ITALIAN- SLOVAK FRIENDSHIP DAYS in the year 2012.

Slovak Mining Museum Banska Stiavnica
The Slovak Mining Museum was formed in 1964 through a fusion of the Municipal Museum founded in 1900, with the State Mining Museum of Dionýz Štúr set up in 1927. Since its beginnings it builds up mineral-deposit, mining-technology, ethnography, art history, archaeology and numismatic funds and collections of general history. It specializes in documenting the history of mining industry in the Slovak Republic. It belongs to the museum system of an all-Slovakian competence and within the framework of region it also documents the history of Banská Štiavnica and its environs.
The central building is the Kammerhof - a national cultural monument, the largest building complex in the town, whose origin reaches back to the 13th century. It is the former seat of the socalled Chamber Counts and mining board of management.
St Martin's Cathedral, Slovakia
Saint Martin's Cathedral is not only a significant landmark for Bratislava and Slovakia, it is an important part of European history as a whole, witnessing the official coronation site for eleven Kings of Hungary during the Turks' occupation of Budapest.
St Martin's Cathedral also hosted the premiere of Beethoven's Missa Solemnis. The cathedral's layout has three naves, with several chapels added over the centuries, including the Chapel of St John the Merciful.
Radio Slovakia International's Gavin Shoebridge speaks with Mons. Jozef Jančovič, PhD, to discover what makes this landmark so interesting for historians and Christians in Europe.

10 Things to do in Bratislava, Slovakia Travel Guide Video Transcript:
We're visiting Bratislava, Slovakia and in this video we're going to show you guys 10 things to do in Bratislava. Let's get started.
Our first stop was Devin Castle, which is located in Devin, a borough of Bratislava. This is the one attraction we visited that was a little further from the Old Town - a 30-minute bus ride.
Devin Castle is a ruined castle that sits on Slovak territory at the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers.
We ate at a restaurant called “Modra Hviezda” which is located at the base of Bratislava Castle and feels like a cave.
Bratislava Castle was Built in the 9th century and modified over the centuries many times over, this 4-towered castle sits perched on a hill overlooking the Danube River.
You get nice views over the Old Town, plus you have the Slovak National Museum & the Baroque Gardens on the north side of the palace.
The following day, we set out to explore the Old Town and stopping cafe for a decadent breakfast.
Bratislava’s Old Town is compact & easy to explore on foot and cover most of the sights in one day. We went on our own do-it-yourself tour finding all sorts of interesting statues & landmarks.
The Blue Church is located on Bezručova Street, which is about a 10-15 minute walk from the Old Town designed in the art nouveau style.
Locals in Bratislava like to say that the best view of their city is from the UFO Bridge because you can’t see the UFO bridge. You get amazing views of Bratislava during sunset.
And while you’re down by the Danube, you can either enjoy a stroll along the river, or go on a sightseeing cruise.
Prašná bašta is another cozy restaurant located at basement level and we had another wonderful meal.
For sports fans be sure to check out a HC Slovan Bratislava ice hockey game. They play in the KHL and the level of hockey and entertainment value is fantastic.
And that’s a wrap for our trip to Bratislava. While we can see the appeal of doing this as a day trip from Vienna, we loved having the extra time to really enjoy the city, try out some great restaurants, and make it to some of the further attractions like Devin Castle. If you have a few days to spare, this is a great little capital to visit.

What you see here in this space is the crème de la crème and very carefully chosen work chosen by Zuzana Bartosova, a step ahead of the works perhaps in the National Museum Collection.
Jankovič piece, The Movable Hands are moving, waving in unison. And that in sense sets the scene the way that artists have responded, artists who are outside the official system right up to 1989 maintained their own independence and contacts with artist in surrounding countries and responded to ideas in outside world. Most of those artists, almost working in isolation. But almost all these works here are kind of key works of the individual artists concerned. In sense, there was a double divorce if you were living in Bratislava. There was a divorce from centralized part, artistic patronage provided by Prague, which was a dominant partner in this federated republic, and of course there was a divorce from the west. And the isolation in Bratislava really was the fertile element I think in sense, that artists were left to their own devices, maybe they were followed a bit by the security police, but on the whole they could do what they wanted provided they didn't put their heads up above the parapet and I think this is the essential message you are getting from this exhibition. All those artists and their work up to 1989 have formed the basis of the Slovak Art.
