A trip to Western Ireland

After landing at Knock airport we spent a few days in Westport before moving on to Achill Island. We finally stopped in Enniscrone where the highlight of the trip was a seaweed bath.

Queen's University Belfast scientists describe the current EnAlgae project in Strangford Lough, which is developing a pilot facility to obtain seaweed for bioenergy production. This clip is taken from an upcoming documentary on Seaweed in Northern Ireland by Robert Thompson.
EnAlgae is a four-year strategic initiative of the INTERREG IVB North West Europe programme. It brings together 19 partners and 14 observers across 7 EU Member States with the aim of developing sustainable technologies for algal biomass production.
The project aims to reduce reliance on fossil fuels in NW Europe by developing algal bioenergy technology pilot facilities across the region and by facilitating the emerging marketplace and policy development.
Through transnational cooperation, EnAlgae ensures the effective use of resources and shared knowledge which will be crucial for the uptake of appropriate technologies in the region
