Alaska from Above: Floatplane over Anchorage and Chugach State Park
(open for more info)
We had the chance to take a short ride on a floatplane--another tick on the bucket list--and gained a little perspective (albeit as tourists) on Alaskan bush pilots, who rely upon their planes for survival, whether they're outfitted with wheels, snow skis, or floats. We saw Anchorage from above, gorged ourselves on the views of remote areas of the Chugach mountains, spotting moose and Dall sheep, and appreciated a bird's eye view of low tide and Fire Island and Cook Inlet.

*quoted material
“Aviation touches all aspects of life in Alaska, and is a basic mode of transportation because approximately 90% of Alaska is not served by roads. Alaska has six times as many pilots per capita and 16 times as many aircraft per capita when compared to the rest of the United States. In the state of Alaska, there are fewer than 12,000 miles of paved roads. Aviation is not only the state pastime; it is the state's major form of transportation.”

26-Glaciers-Cruise through Prince William Sound in Alaska, USA
About two weeks ago I visited #Alaska, #USA on a #TierPointRun. If you don‘t know what that is, it‘s probably not important to you anyway. But, more importantly, there in Alaska I went on a little day-cruise from #Whittier through Prince William Sound. The #26glacierscruise takes you, as the name suggests, along 26 glaciers leading into the sound. It was amazing and beautiful!
.
If you want to do the same cruise, visit the city of Whittier. Phillips Cruises operates daily and to my knowledge year-round with their patented 26-Glaciers-Cruise. As you need to drive to Whittier and back from Anchorage, plan a full day for this fun activity.

THE SIGHT & THE SOUND 19-2/19 : Era Classic DC-3 N1944H documentary of scenic flight over Alaska
In July 1997 I was invited to spend a week in Alaska doing some extensive flying on the route network of legendary Reeve Aleutian Airways and to sample the ultimate Electra experience, a chance never to be missed. The following days will be filled with pure flying heaven from early morning hours until after midnight, getting to know what flying life is alike alongside the Aleutian islands of Alaska and Unalaska, onboard vintage and piston engine aircraft.
On the last day of my stay in Alaska I decided to enjoy a second scenic flight over the treasures of Alaska onboard of the second C-47 of Era Classic Airlines, N1944H Spirit of Alaska, a decision not to be regretted.
Enjoy with me the Sights & Sounds of Classic Aviation.

Flying Alaska Mt. Spurr Volcano
We had the opportunity take a survey flight over Mt. Spurr in a Diamond 42. We made four passes over the volcano, the best two of which are in this video. We rapidly descended to the Capps glacier below and flew over it's entire length.
Mt Spurr is over 11000 feet high, and last erupted in 1992.
