Avignon City of Popes
Avignon, The City of Popes is a UNESCO world heritage site in south of France.
I tried to show you the spirit of Avignon during his festival. More than 1500 performances over the month and thousands of comedians from all over the word are gathering in the city.
This is hot, sunny, food is really great and people are more than nice.
Enjoy !
Avignon - France-day 2B
Continuing our stroll through Avignon, walk back along Rue des Lices, feeling free to meander left or right as the spirit strikes and how appealing those little side lanes seem to you, including Rue Agricol Perdiguier and the lovely Place des Corps Saints, with its burbling fountain and picturesque little church of the Célestins and bar of the same name. A lively array of café tables is spread out here in fair weather.
Rue Frédéric Mistral is a short lane passing under a picturesque arch connecting two historic buildings. The street's name honors one of the great literary and culture heroes of Provence, Frédéric Mistral, a writer who won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1904.
Rue des Trois Faucons leads a few blocks north to another important church worth visiting: St. Didier, one of the largest Gothic churches in Provence.
Continue a block north from the church into Avignon's main pedestrian zone, lined with shops -- a maze of several blocks ideal for wandering. This will lead you back to the main Place de l'Horloge and put you in prime position for lunch, followed by shopping or a couple of museum visits.

River Leie from French Border to Ghent
In July 2016 Free Spirit made her way from the French Border to Ghent on the River Leie via Kortrijk, Deinze and Sint- Martens-Leerne. A beautiful journey, especially on the old Leie from Deinze to Ghent. If possible, avoid doin this part of the journey on a weekend as the traffic can be quite intense ! We stayed at Jachthaven Merelbeke in Ghent, a very friendly and well located Club !

Chateau de Breteuil
The Château de Breteuil (previously called the Château de Bevilliers) was built in the early 17th century and decorated principally in the 18th century. It is located in the Île-de-France and the département of Yvelines, France, 35 km (22 miles) to the south-west of Paris in the heart of the renowned Valley of Chevreuse. The château is set in a listed park of some 90 hectares.
The family of the Marquis de Breteuil who still lives there gave three ministers to the Kings of France. We were able to walk around the grounds with the Marquis himself, a friend of Jaques Chirac and of many other people in public life.
The building compares with the Château of Dampierre-en-Yvelines by Jules Hardouin-Mansart.
FONTAINE DE VAUCLUSE engl.
Fontaine de Vaucluse is a small village in the Provence, in the South of France, near Avignon. There are only a few hundred permanent residents; millions of tourists come every year to view the fontaine, considered to be one of the most majestic springs in the world. Water emerges from a grotto beneath a more than 100 metre high stone cliff. From there, the water usually flows underground, flowing into the riverbed several metres further on. When the snow thaws, however, more than 200 square metres of water pour out of the spring in a second. The grotto is no longer visible, and the otherwise dry stones at the entry are covered by a waterfall.
The making of this film involved taking approximately 270,000 single frame images with two 16 mm cameras and c.84,000 of these images were used to construct the final version of the film.
The compelling landscape of varied elements and the play and changes of light on the scene moved us to attempt to capture how the seasons radically alter the view. We subjectively shot what we found on location so that an abstract impression, reflecting nature, can appeal to the viewers' visual, spatial and temporal imagination, as opposed to representing reality. Images became notes, and thus the film, through montage, became a visual composition. No statements are made, neither the residents nor the tourists are interviewed. People are treated like the flowing water, roaring past as a mass.
Thomas Gerwin composed a musique concrète especially for the film using exclusively sounds recorded on location. These were then digitally manipulated: edited, looped, filtered, layered, comprimised, stretched, reversed and triggered. The effest is sometimes akin to tiny sound particles arranged in a variety of ways in a sampler and mixed to full advantage. The rhythm is based directly on that of the water, the wind and the sounds of human voices.
The acoustical composition does not accompany the images; it interacts with the visuals, gives them rhythm, comments on and interprets them. This enables the music to allow to hidden structures to come to the surface, and yet, simultaneously, adds new accents, or in some instances, weaves a thread connecting visual patterns with a musical construction and thereby binding these elements into a self-contained composition.
„The extreme emotionality of it has a strong impact, causing the viewer to physically feel the film when confronted with this overwhelming tapestry of images. It is like taking a hike, when the spirit can roam free and one forgets time and just lets oneself drop into images and sound. Torsten Alisch, Duisburger Filmwoche, 2001
„The images pulse, taking on a rhythmic structure reminiscent of a musical score. Johannes C. Tritschler, ZUS 27. März 2001

TOULON, FRANCE
TOULON, FRANCE
This is one of my earlier videos and although the production and quality are not as good as later ones it still gives an overall view of the wonderful area of Toulon in France.
We took a trip along the coast line up into the very picturesque Hawes Mountains and from here the views were great.
Toulon (French pronunciation: [tu.lɔ̃]; Provençal Occitan: Tolon in classical norm or Touloun in Mistralian norm) is a city in southern France and a large military harbour on the Mediterranean coast, with a major French naval base. Located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur region, Toulon is the capital of the Var department in the former province of Provence.
The Commune of Toulon has a population of 165,514 people (2009), making it the fifteenth-largest city in France. It is the centre of an urban area with 559,421 inhabitants (2008), the ninth largest in France. Toulon is the fourth-largest French city on the Mediterranean coast after Marseille, Nice and Montpellier.
Toulon is an important centre for naval construction, fishing, wine making, and the manufacture of aeronautical equipment, armaments, maps, paper, tobacco, printing, shoes, and electronic equipment.
The military port of Toulon is the major naval centre on France's Mediterranean coast, home of the French Navy aircraft carrier Charles De Gaulle and her battle group. The French Mediterranean Fleet is based in Toulon.
