Milwaukee: A City Built on Water | Program |
[Original Airdate: April 22, 2015]
Historian John Gurda explores how the Milwaukee River and Lake Michigan spurred Milwaukee's growth. The settlers used rivers and Lake Michigan to transport grain, lumber, leather and beer, but water was just as important for play as it was for work. Gurda explains how the Milwaukee River became a destination for fun. Learn how the lower Milwaukee River was eventually reduced to an open sewer by 1900, with Lake Michigan suffering similar indignities. Only in recent decades have the currents turned for the better. From the Milwaukee River Greenway to the reborn Menomonee Valley to the cultural theme park on our downtown lakefront, the patterns of the past are being reversed, providing cause for celebration as well as concern.

Around the Corner with John McGivern | Program | Delafield (#806)
[Original Airdate: February 7, 2019]
Delafield and smiles just go together. Yes, there’s a literal, giant smile on a barn to welcome you as you exit I-94 onto Hwy 83. But we found that the smiles we enjoyed most were the ones we shared with people like Bob Lang, Tom at Naga-waukee golf course, Pipe Major Donaldson at St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy, and Ramona and Mark at Seven Seas. Smiles are always in abundance in charming, colonial-style downtown Delafield, and especially for us at the Barn Owl and Daybreak Prime Meats & Deli. Just south of I-94 we found our good moods bolstered at Lapham Peak and at Arcon Mfg. & Lake Country Candies (candy raisins make everyone smile, right?). By the time we left Randy at Ten Chimneys, our faces hurt– in a good way! Delafield is definitely a happy place!

Around the Corner with John McGivern | Program | New Glarus (#805)
[Original Airdate: January 31, 2019]
It doesn’t take long to figure out the heritage of New Glarus. If the Swiss flags or the edelweiss at Brenda’s Blumenladen don’t give it away, the Alpine architecture and the brown Swiss cows all over town sure will! You know that people are proud when they name their organizations after the city. That’s just what New Glarus Brewing Company, New Glarus Welding, New Glarus Kinderchor and the New Glarus Hotel Restaurant did, which made them really easy for John to find. And he was happy to be “Swissified” by Chef Roland Furst, cultural expert Peter Etter and Swiss shop owner Esther Zgraggen. He was surprised when he was asked to milk the animals at the Voegeli and Lucky Dog farms, but at least he was good at it! John may never get to the original Glarus in Switzerland, but who cares? New Glarus is better anyway!

Why a Pack of Dogs May Have Attacked a Woman
A North Carolina woman was hospitalized Monday after she was attacked by a pack of dogs. Home surveillance footage shows four mixed pit bull breeds viciously tugging at the woman's clothes and dragging her to the ground as she was walking through Winston-Salem. The woman, who is in her 60s, was filmed lying on the ground as all four dogs bit her while she screamed for help. Luckily, a quick-thinking neighbor came running out to save the woman and chased them away.

Tempe Music Festival TV - 2005 TMF Documentary
The Circle K Tempe Music Festival is Arizona's premiere multi-sensory music festival. In 2009 the event was voted Arizona's Best Annual Music Festival by the readers of both the Phoenix New Times and azcentral.com, home of The Arizona Republic. Each year Circle K Tempe Music Festival provides more than music with interactive sponsor displays, extreme sports demonstrations, exciting kids activities and much more.
Each spring the festival spans two days in Tempe Beach Park, located within walking distance of Arizona State University's main campus. With multiple stages of non-stop music, the Circle K Tempe Music Festival has had the privilege of hosting national acts such as Kid Rock, All American Rejects, 3 Doors Down, Fergie, My Chemical Romance, Puddle of Mudd, The Fray, O.A.R., The Gin Blossoms, Jeff Beck, John Mayer Trio, Live, Blues Traveler and many, many more. Another unique feature includes the Emerging Artists Stage which showcases up-and-coming local and regional bands.
Great music combined with Arizona's beautiful spring weather and a multitude of festival activities makes the Circle K Tempe Music Festival a highly anticipated annual event for the Tempe community and statewide. Entertainment Solutions has been the proud producer of the Circle K Tempe Music Festival since its inception in 2003.
Each year high school and college garage bands are recruited to participate in the annual SRP Garage Band Competition. The bands go through several rounds of online fan voting and judged live performances, with finalists advancing to perform at the SPR Music Shack at Circle K Tempe Music Festival. The top high school and college bands get to open for a national headliner, performing in front of thousands of fans on the festival's Main Stage. Winning bands will also receive an SRP music scholarship to donate to the music program of their choice.
The Circle K Tempe Music Festival has grown to be the largest music festival in Arizona. This year, the event will feature national, regional and local acts including Kid Rock, Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers, The Outlaws, Cowboy Mouth and Pop Evil performing on Friday, April 3 and 3 Doors Down, All American Rejects, Tom Morello: The Nightwatchman (of Rage Against the Machine), MUTEMATH, Shiny Toy Guns, Vayden, Tongue Dried Sun, Wensday, Red Letter Drive
• The SRP Music Shack Stage & Garage Band Competition where the SRP Garage Band Competition finalists will battle it out to see who will open for major 3 Doors Down and All American Rejects at the festival.

Edward Joel Kowalczyk (born July 16, 1971) is an American musician, and a founding member of the band Live. Since leaving Live in 2009, he has launched a solo career. His first album, Alive, was released worldwide in June and July 2010.
BoDeans is a rock band formed in Waukesha, Wisconsin in 1983. In 1985, the band signed a contract with Slash Records and recorded their critically acclaimed debut album, Love & Hope & Sex & Dreams
After Black & White, the band decided to shift their focus to making the album that pleased them instead of searching for a hit. For their 5th album Go Slow Down in 1993, the band reunited with T-Bone Burnett and took a more homemade approach with Kurt playing many of the instruments himself. Unlike their previous album, Go Slow Down was more acoustic and marked their transition into 90's alternative rock.
The first song from the album, Closer to Free, brought them to a much larger audience after it was selected as the theme song to the TV series Party of Five in 1994

Around the Corner with John McGivern | Program | Lake Mills (#504)
[Latest Airdate: October 11, 2018]
[Original Airdate: January 28, 2016]
They call it Legendary Lake Mills. But as we explored this idyllic community, we uncovered facts, not legends.
John Gurda warned us that some people believe that in the bottom of Rock Lake there are ancient pyramids. Others believe they are rock formations caused by geological shifts. Hence our first Fact: Rock Lake has either pyramids or rock formations, and if you want to debate it, we're not getting in the middle of it! Fact: Tyranena Brewing Company is the place to meet. Fact: Water House Foods and Doyle's Dogs personify the Lake Mills spirit: True quality --- of both people and food! (Oh, and John loves to eat. That's also a fact.) Fact: This is a city full of active people who really love to get outside and enjoy exercise and life. Fact: Ephraim Pottery is tremendously cool. Fact: Old Churches without active congregations in Lake Mills are recycled and reused, and John really wants to live in an old church - and Cynthia Weston's chouse is the one he wants most. Fact: Commons Park is really a town square shaped like a triangle --- and it's as charming as can be.
Fact: Lake Mills will always be Legendary to us!

Washington DC Real Estate: January 2018 Market Report
Hi there, it’s Peggy Yee with Frankly Realtors here with your January 2018 Market Report for the DC Metro Area. Happy New Year!! Hope you guys had a great holiday season! The real estate market in the DC area was still pretty active at the end of last year. Active listings were actually down from the 5 year average and there was only 1.5 months of supply in the market, indicating we ended the year in a seller’s market! I predict this should set us up for a busy spring as more buyers and sellers come into the market. The median sold price was about the same from last year at $459,000 for the region and the median days on market was 24 days, which is actually about 11% lower than last year. So homes are selling faster than last year.
For a more detailed analysis of what is going on in your area of DC or Maryland, please check out my neighborhood specific market reports. And if you are looking to sell your home, please contact me to discuss what’s happening in your neighborhood and how my team can get top dollar for you place.
