Lost Cemeteries of St. Charles, Missouri!
Historic St. Charles, Missouri, has embraced its history and is known as an extremely haunted town. In it's past, however, bodies have been moved between cemeteries around town, and some buried souls are in places you wouldn't expect. On our journey to trace the trail, we encountered an unexpected piece of history on a headstone that revealed yet another lost cemetery... and in our historic research, yet another! Could these old cemeteries have something to do with the hauntings of the town? Plus... we made a side trip to the woods of haunted Zombie Road on the way home!

almost a ghost town: cherry, illinois ( original edit )
the population is only a few hundred now, whereas at its peak in the early 20th century there were several thousand people living here.
there's not a lot in the way of abandoned buildings, but this town used to have a coal mine operated by the chicago, milwaukee & st. paul railroad, for supplying its trains with fuel. but then in 1909 there was a horrible disaster in which over 250 miners - some as young as 11 years old - were trapped underground and died. the mine was never used again after that.
the two big hills you can see at the edge of town are actually made up predominantly of broken up red bricks, which are the remains of the collapsed mine buildings. you can catch a glimpse of the red at the base of the closer hill.
in driving thru the town you can see that there used to be many more buildings than there are now. the main road was once lined up and down both sides with row-buildings, but now just a few of them remain, standing alone. the big grassy areas in the town were once occupied by modest homes packed fairly close together, but as the homes vanished over the years, many of the little lots were consolidated into bigger lawns for the few homes that remain.

The Best Historic Main Street in America - Galena, IL - Main Streets of America Ep. 3
Galena, Illinois was founded in 1826, and named after the natural form of lead sulfide that was mined by Native Americans before the towns founding. Today the town serves as a popular tourist destination for Chicagoans trying to escape the busy city, and for those just wanting a nice place to spend the day. This is arguably the best historic stretch of small town main street in America in my opinion.
The series is getting on its way and still lacks some structure and I would love feedback on your part! Let me know what you liked and disliked about the series so I can improve it for you all. Thanks for watching
