Church of St. Francis, Treviso, Veneto, Italy, Europe
In the early 13th century the municipality of Treviso issued statutes that allowed mendicant orders to settle within the walls. A small group of minor friars, sent by the same Francis of Assisi, came to Treviso in 1216, and took up residence north-east of the city center, in the area beyond the Cagnan Grande. In this area, which the tradition has granted them from the Da Camino, the Franciscans built a simple convent and a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The community soon became numerous and in 1231 the church and the convent began to be built. The municipality gave a sum of one thousand lire for the works. In 1270 the constructions were completed. An important role in the endowment of the convent was given by Gherardo da Camino, perhaps due to an act of reparation for the killing of Giacomo Casale, bishop of Feltre and Friar Minor, in 1298. The major families of Treviso had their own chapel in this church: in addition to the grandiose ark of the da Camino, one can remember the disappeared tombs of the Bonaparte, the Brandolini, the Coderta, the Rovèr, the Rinaldi, the Sugana, and the Calandri. Being a regular church, in 1797 the church was occupied by the French and the minor conventual friars were expelled. In 1806 the convent was suppressed by the laws of the Kingdom of Italy. The church was thus used for military purposes and as a stable, while the two large cloisters were demolished. Only in 1928, after a restoration, it was reopened. The church, owned by the Municipality of Treviso, was again entrusted to the pastoral animation of the Conventual Franciscan friars. It is not a parish church, being included in the territory of Santa Maria Maddalena. To a Franciscan, between Benvenuto delle Celle, according to the tradition also author of the project for the church of San Nicolò, is perhaps the design of the church. The grandeur of the Dominican temple is opposed by the simple and severe structure, of transition between the Romanesque and early Gothic, of St. Francis. The gabled façade, as well as the two sides, is decorated with pilasters crowned by small arches, and has a lunette above the portal with a Byzantine fresco. The church has a Latin cross plan, with a single, large nave covered by a wooden ship-like ceiling. On the right there is a small nave consisting of the union of five side chapels, covered by masonry cross vaults that form five bays. In the lunette above the portal there is a Byzantine fresco, attributed to Marco Veneziano (1235). Inside, on the left wall, there is a gigantic fresco depicting St. Christopher, a Romanesque-Byzantine work of the late thirteenth century. On the sails of the vault of the main chapel of the apse are the Four Evangelists, the Stigmata of St. Francis, a Madonna with Child and Adam, of the fourteenth-century Venetian-Emilian school, probably the work of a pupil of Tommaso da Modena. In the first chapel on the left (Giacomelli chapel) there is a work by Tommaso da Modena, the fresco of the Madonna and Child with seven saints (1350), a true artistic masterpiece of the church and testimony to the refined Gothic style of the Emilian master then active in city. Three of the saints, however, were later added by pupils of Thomas. In the second chapel on the left there is a fresco by a pupil of Tommaso da Modena, the Master of Feltre: Madonna and four saints, from 1351.
St. Francis Bridge, Treviso, Veneto, Italy, Europe
St. Francis Bridge in Treviso, for a strange historical alchemy, the canal outside the walls is called Botteniga, at the entrance to the city it changes its name: one branch, the one in the photo, becomes Cagnan and another, it takes the name of Roggia first and then, after passing under some houses, become Siletto. The silent waters of Treviso also sung by Dante: Where Sile and Cagnan accompany themselves.

Church of Saint Francis, Cortona, Arezzo, Tuscany, Italy, Europe
San Francesco is a 13th-century, Roman Catholic church located on via Berrettini in Cortona, region of Tuscany, Italy. Built in 1245, the church has the typical Franciscan pattern: a large nave ending in an apse with a groin vault, flanked by two smaller side-chapels also with groin vaults. The facade holds a lancet-arched main doorway with three small columns in a recess, and a large circular window set above. In the apse are the mouldings of the partially walled Gothic windows. On the left the eastern wing of the cloister is visible, where there are two windows, now filled with masonry, and an arched doorway belonging to the Chapter House. Inside can be seen some distinguished artworks, including the Nativity of Raffaello Vanni, the Annunciation by Pietro da Cortona, St. Anthony of Padua and the miracle of the mule by Cigoli (1597), and the Virgin in glory among the saints by Ciro Ferri. In the Convent of the Conventual Franciscan Friars are carefully preserved some relics of St. Francis of Assisi, namely a habit, a finely embroidered cushion on which the dying saint laid his head, and also a book of the Gospel. Also in this church is a preserved fragment of the Holy Cross, in a reliquary of Byzantine work in ivory and silver. It was brought from Constantinople to Cortona by Friar Elia Coppi, whom San Francesco named as his mother and a father for the other brothers, the successor to the leadership of the Conventual Franciscan Friars. P. Eugen Rachiteanu governed the church and the convent together with two other monks from the Conventual Franciscan Province of Romania.

A Beautiful Day in City of Treviso, Italia
A Beautiful Day in City of Treviso, Italia. Treviso (Latin: Tarvisium) is a city in northeastern Italy, and the capital of the province of the same name. The city is well known with its canals also. It is in the eastern part of the Veneto region, north of Venezia and south of Belluno. Discovering the city on foot is very easy. The historic center is actually quite small, so you can go around in the narrow streets. With the local rental bike shops you can make a good excursion at Palladian Villas. Ask locals for a nice track all along Sile River. If you are brave, you can reach the Venetian Lagoon.

Church of Santa Corona, Vicenza, Veneto, Italy, Europe
Santa Corona is a Gothic-style, Roman Catholic church located in Vicenza, region of Veneto, Italy. The church contains the Valmarana chapel (circa 1576), whose design is attributed to the Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio. Palladio himself is buried in this church. Construction on the church was begun in 1261 by the Blessed (Beato) Bishop Bartolomeo di Breganze to house a thorn from the supposed relic of the crown (corona) of thorns forced on Jesus during his passion. The thorn had been given to this bishop as a gift from Louis IX of France. The church belonged to the Dominican order until suppression during the Napoleonic era. The church has an altarpiece depicting, the Baptism of Christ (1500-1502) by Giovanni Bellini. The Thiene chapel has frescos by Michelino da Besozzo, and an altarpiece depicting an Enthroned Madonna and child venerated by Saints Peter and Pius V by Gianbattista Pittoni. Other works in the church include an Adoration of the Magi’’ by Veronese, a Madonna of the Star‘ by Marcello Fogolino, a St Mary Magdalen with Saints Jerome, Paola and Monica, (1414-1415) by Bartolomeo Montagna, a canvas depicting St Anthony and friars distributing alms to poor (1518) by Leandro Bassano, and two canvases with depictions of St Sebastian and St Martin by Battista da Vicenza. After the death of one of his patrons, Antonio Valmarana, likely in 1576, Andrea Palladio designed this funereal chapel. Santa Corona had already been the church were other members of the family had been interred. Ten years earlier, Palladio had designed the Palazzo Valmarana in town for the family. The chapel was constructed by 1597, and family members transferred here. While there is no documentary evidence linking this design to Palladio, it highly resembles his chapels found at the Il Redentore in Venice. Since 1994 the arch has been part of a World Heritage Site, designated to protect the Palladian buildings of Vicenza it as City of Vicenza and the Palladian Villas of the Veneto.

Church of Corsignano, Corsignano, Pienza, Siena, Tuscany, Italy, Europe
The Church of Corsignano is a place of Catholic worship located in the locality of the same name near Pienza, in the province of Siena and the diocese of Montepulciano-Chiusi-Pienza. The church is a Romanesque construction mostly dating back to the 12th century, with three naves divided by quadrangular pillars. The arches of the right side appear from a later phase. The terminal part is now devoid of apses. The cylindrical bell tower of Ravenna influence, dating back to the 11th century, is older. The façade has a slightly raised portal, in whose splay there are two small columns on which there is a zig-zag decorated arch, which contains another with plant motifs. Above the portal there is a mullioned window with a female figure supporting the crutch capital. Another portal on the right side appears to be simpler but richly decorated; in its architrave the Journey of the Magi and the Nativity are depicted. Under the right aisle a small apsidal crypt is preserved. In the simple baptismal font the future pontiffs Pius II and Pius III were baptized. The rustic aspect, especially inside, is however the result of a restoration in 1925. In the pieve there is the pipe organ Pinchi opus 337, built in 1979; with a fully mechanical transmission, it has 9 registers on a single manual.
