A walk around historic Llanrwst in North Wales
A walk around Llanrwst, situated in the beautiful Conwy Valley. The walk includes St.Grwst's Church, the present church dates from 1470. The Gwydir chapel attached to the church contains the stone coffin of Llywelyn the Great(Llywelyn ap Iorwerth), a powerful Prince of Wales from the 13th century, who married Joan, the daughter of King John of England, and died in 1240.

St Dwynwen: 5th century princess, Dwynwen, became patron saint of Welsh lovers, when God gave her the power to grant the wishes of true lovers. Although already engaged, Dwynwen fell hopelessly in love with Maelon. Knowing that the relationship could not last, an angel appeared in Dwynwen's dreams and froze Maelon, turning him into a block of ice. Heartbroken, Dwynwen turned to God and prayed that Maelon be thawed, and although she would never marry, her name became forever linked to the lovers of Wales.
According to legend, the two saints used to meet weekly near Llanerchymedd, near the centre of the island. St. Cybi would walk from Holyhead, facing the rising sun in the morning and the setting sun in the evening. St. Seiriol, travelling in the opposite direction, would have the sun to his back during his journey. They were thus known as Cybi the Dark (since he was tanned during his journey) and Seiriol the Fair.
St. Seiriol's Well is reached by walking up a path past a fish pond built by the monks. The well is enclosed within a small building, most of which is brick representing reconstruction in the 18th century; the flooring and lower parts of the wall are probably older. The foundations of another small building may be seen just next to the well (in the lower left of the picture above). This is popularly thought to be the remains of St. Seiriol's cell, where he would have lived, but there is no evidence to support this and its shape is not like other 6th century hermitages.
The Gael appears in two places in LOTM----during The Kiss and Promontory. (The word gael means the Scot, that is, the Scotsman.)

Conwy Castle (Welsh: Castell Conwy, English: Conway Castle) is a medieval fortification in Conwy, on the north coast of Wales. It was built by Edward I, during his conquest of Wales, between 1283 and 1289. Constructed as part of a wider project to create the walled town of Conwy, the combined defences cost around £15,000, a huge sum for the period. Over the next few centuries, the castle played an important part in several wars. It withstood the siege of Madog ap Llywelyn in the winter of 1294–95, acted as a temporary haven for Richard II in 1399 and was held for several months by forces loyal to Owain Glyndŵr in 1401.
Following the outbreak of the English Civil War in 1642, the castle was held by forces loyal to Charles I, holding out until 1646 when it surrendered to the Parliamentary armies. In the aftermath the castle was partially slighted by Parliament to prevent it being used in any further revolt, and was finally completely ruined in 1665 when its remaining iron and lead was stripped and sold off. Conwy Castle became an attractive destination for painters in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Visitor numbers grew and initial restoration work was carried out in the second half of the 19th century. In the 21st century the ruined castle is managed by Cadw as a tourist attraction.
UNESCO considers Conwy to be one of the finest examples of late 13th century and early 14th century military architecture in Europe, and it is classed as a World Heritage site.[1] The rectangular castle is built from local and imported stone and occupies a coastal ridge, originally overlooking an important crossing point over the River Conwy. Divided into an Inner and an Outer Ward, it is defended by eight large towers and two barbicans, with a postern gate leading down to the river, allowing the castle to be resupplied from the sea. It retains the earliest surviving stone machicolations in Britain and what historian Jeremy Ashbee has described as the best preserved suite of medieval private royal chambers in England and Wales.[2] In keeping with other Edwardian castles in North Wales, the architecture of Conwy has close links to that found in the kingdom of Savoy during the same period, an influence probably derived from the Savoy origins of the main architect, James of Saint George.

Anthem On Great Orme
During the weekend of the 26-28 June 2015 our choir traveled to Llandudno, North Wales. Our purpose was to perform a charity concert with the Denbigh Male Voice Choir and have a short relaxing break. Whilst out and about enjoying our free time the choir performed an impromptu concert on Great Orme to a small crowd that had gathered. One of the pieces we performed on this sunny but windswept day was Anthem From Chess which is presented here.

Calon Lân is a Welsh song, the words of which were written in the 19th century by Daniel James (23 January 1848 - 11 March 1920) to a tune by John Hughes (1872--1914). The song is a hymn, but it has become a song more associated with Welsh rugby union, being sung before almost every Test match involving the Welsh national team.
In 2007 the song was one of the traditional Welsh songs to make it to the screen in an S4C series Codi Canu, as an attempt is made to bring traditional four-part harmony choral singing back to the Welsh rugby terraces.
Calon Lân is unusual among the most popular Welsh traditional songs in that the English version of the words is virtually never sung (unlike, for example, Cwm Rhondda), but the tune does appear, for example, in the current (British) Methodist hymn book, Hymns & Psalms, set to the lyrics of I will Sing the Wondrous Story by P. P. Bliss.
