Around the Corner with John McGivern | Program | Around Milwaukee County (#701)
[Latest Airdate: April 19, 2018]
[Original Airdate: January 11, 2018]
For this one episode, we let our talent choose content. Historian John Gurda wanted to tell you about one of his favorite places on earth, Seminary Woods. Sports guy Mike McGiven couldn't
choose between Milwaukee King High School baseball and the Running Rebels, so we did both.
And John McGivern is FULL of ideas, so we had to narrow his list to food, classics and who knew? segments. We only allowed two food choices (not the 10 he originally suggested!): Mr. Dye's Pies and C-viche.
This episode's Milwaukee classics are Summerfest, the SV Denis Sullivan, Foamation, Inc. (a.k.a., the Cheesehead Factory), and Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
And the who knew ideas that we loved include Olympus Group Mascot Division, MATC's Dental Technician program, Yellow Wood Gear and Cobalt Glass.
We love Milwaukee County. Mayor Barrett, get ready to come up with a different 30 seconds for next season because we may do this every year from now on!

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
Madison is the capital of the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the seat of Dane County. As of July 1, 2017, Madison's estimated population of 255,214 made it the second-largest city in Wisconsin, after Milwaukee, and the 82nd-largest in the United States. The city forms the core of the United States Census Bureau's Madison Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes Dane County and neighboring Iowa, Green, and Columbia counties. The Madison Metropolitan Statistical Area's 2010 population was 568,593.
Founded in 1829 on an isthmus between Lake Monona and Lake Mendota, Madison was named the capital of the Wisconsin Territory in 1836 and became the capital of the state of Wisconsin when it was admitted to the Union in 1848. That same year, the University of Wisconsin was founded in Madison and the state government and university have become the city's two largest employers. The city is also known for its lakes, restaurants, and extensive network of parks and bike trails, with much of the park system designed by landscape architect John Nolen.
Since the 1960s, Madison has been a center of political liberalism. Though Wisconsin is regarded as a battleground or swing state in elections, Madison and Dane County have supported every Democratic Party presidential nominee since John F. Kennedy in 1960, with the party's most recent nominees, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, carrying Dane County with over 70 per cent of the vote in 2008, 2012, and 2016.

St. Jean Vianney’s Incorrupt Heart Came to the Archdiocese of Milwaukee
Dear Brother Knight,
The major relic of St. Jean Vianney’s whole, the incorrupt heart has come to Wisconsin!
The relic was available for veneration at SBasilica and National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians, 1525 Carmel Rd. Hubertus, WI 53033, this Wednesday, January 23rd (Mass at 6:30 p.m.); Veneration will be available following Mass and Thursday, January 24th, Veneration 6:30 a.m.- 6:00 p.m. (Mass at 6:30 p.m.).
The Knights of Columbus is organizing this “Heart of a Priest” relic pilgrimage honoring the patron of parish priests, whose holiness and integrity is a model for clergy and laity alike. We hope as many Knights and their families as possible will be able to venerate this relic.
Fraternally,
State Deputy Jack Wrbanich
Jean-Baptiste-Marie Vianney, T.O.S.F. (8 May 1786 – 4 August 1859), commonly known in English as St. John Vianney, was a French parish priest who is venerated in the Catholic Church as a saint and as the patron saint of parish priests. He is often referred to as the Curé d'Ars (i.e., Parish Priest of Ars), internationally known for his priestly and pastoral work in his parish in Ars, France, because of the radical spiritual transformation of the community and its surroundings. Catholics attribute this to his saintly life, mortification, persevering ministry in the sacrament of confession, and ardent devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. His feast day is 4 August.
