St. Maria im Kapitol (St. Mary’s in the Capitol) is located on the site of the ancient Roman Capitoline temple. The present church was built in the 11th century. The temple’s proportions were retained for the nave of the church. The construction of the church was initiated by the Benedictine abbess Ida, a granddaughter of Emperor Otto II.
Her imperial heritage and the sense of status associated with it are clearly expressed in the size of the church and the crypt. The surviving furnishings were also of the highest quality at the time they were made.
They include two wooden door leaves from about 1065, an expressive forked cross consecrated in 1304, Late Gothic stained-glass windows and a Renaissance rood screen that separates the choir from the nave.

KRIPPENWANDERUNG Köln 13.01.2019
In den Kölner Kirchen werden die Weihnachtskrippen erst nach Mariae Lichtmess am 02.Februar abgebaut und so nutzte die Freie Wandergruppe Mettmann auch 3 Wochen nach Weihnachten noch die Gelegenheit, eine Reihe wunderschöner Krippenaufbauten in verschiedenen Kirchen zu bewundern. Marlies war hierbei unsere Führerin, kennt sie sich doch als Kölnerin bestens aus in diesem Metier und sie hat bereits einige solcher Führungen gemacht. Alle Krippen sind völlig unterschiedlich in ihrer Thematik und Art der Darstellung. Marlies konnte uns hierzu viele Details zur Erklärung und zum Verständnis erläutern. So wurde uns auch bewusst, daß alle Krippen mit dem Jesuskind und den umgebenden Figuren wie ein Spiegelbild einer bestimmten Zeit oder Epoche anzusehen sind. Manchmal stellen sie auch ein Abbild eines Stadtviertels mit seinen prägenden Charakteren dar. Startpunkt unserer Führung war die in einem Schaukasten aufgebaute Friedenskrippe in der Ladengasse am Kölner Hauptbahnhof. Die Weihnachtsgeschichte ist hier in das zerbombte Köln des Jahres 1946 verlegt. Wir waren dann noch in folgenden Kirchen: St.Andreas, Hoher Dom zu Köln, Groß St. Martin, Maria im Kapitol, Maria Lyskirchen, St. Georg, Crux-Kirche und St. Ursula.

The Schnütgen Museum in Cologne, Germany is devoted to Christian religious art, mainly medieval, but some parts of the collection, such as its textiles and prints, extend from antiquity to the modern period. In 1906, the collection of Alexander Schnütgen was donated to the city, and the collection has continued to expand, so that until the opening of a new building in 2010, only about 10% of its 13,000 items could be displayed. Now some 2,000 objects are on display in 1900 sq. metres of gallery space, with an additional 1300 sq. metres for special exhibitions. Schnütgen (1843–1918) was a Catholic priest and theologian; according to the museum website Up to now people tell stories about his zealous and sometimes crafty collection tactics.
Since 1956, the museum has occupied the large Romanesque church of St. Cäcilien, founded in 881 for noble canonesses, with the present building dating from 1130–60, with murals from about 1300. An annex built by architect Karl Band was added in the 1950s, and new buildings (part of the Kulturquartier, “Culture quarter“) opened in 2010. Highlights of the collection include a Romanesque tympanum from St Cecilia's itself, several large wooden crucifixes, including the 11th century Cross of St George's, as well as a large collection of early bronze ones, including the only other work generally attributed to Rainer of Huy apart from his Liège baptismal font.
The museum has a late Carolingian evangeliary of 860–880, and a single leaf from the English St Albans Psalter. The Comb of St Heribert is a 9th-century ivory liturgical comb, and the Harrach Diptych a Carolingian ivory of about 810 (on loan from the Ludwig collection). Ivories, stained glass, textiles including vestments, metalwork and paintings are all well represented.

Köln - Kirche St. Mariae Himmelfahrt
Die katholische Pfarrkirche St. Mariä Himmelfahrt war nach dem Dom für lange Zeit die größte Kirche Kölns und ist eines der wenigen noch vorhandenen architektonischen Zeugnisse des Barocks in der Stadt. Die an der Marzellenstraße nahe dem Dom gelegene ehemalige Kollegkirche der Jesuiten wurde nach Plänen von Christoph Wamser errichtet. Der Grundstein wurde 1618 gelegt. 1629 wurde sie in Gebrauch genommen. Vollendet war sie im Jahre 1678. Im Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde die Kirche bis fast auf die Umfassungsmauern zerstört. In den Jahren 1949 bis 1979 erhielt sie ihre ursprüngliche Gestalt zurück. (Wikipedia)

The Catholic Parish Church of the Assumption was for a long time the largest church in Cologne, and is one of the few surviving Baroque architectural remains of in the city, located at Marzellenstraße and built to plans by Christoph Wamser.
During World War II the church was destroyed almost to the perimeter walls. From 1949 to 1979 it was restored to its original shape.
This video features views of the Baroque church exterior, with several sweeping shots of the church front, including a beautiful bride in white waiting to go in for her wedding. Also featured are views of the church interior, featuring the decor, stained glass windows, and church interior.

Die dreischiffige Basilika mit ihrem kleeblattförmigen Ostchor und dem quadratischen Vierungsturm mit vier Ecktürmchen ist eines der markantesten Wahrzeichen im linksrheinischen Stadtpanorama.

Groß St. Martin, pronounced [ˈɡʁoːs ˌzaŋtʰ ˈmaʁtʰɪn] or [ˈɡʁoːs ˌzaŋtʰ maˈtʰiːn], regional colloquial pronunciation [ˈɡʁoːˌsaŋtⁿmaχˈtʰiːn], [ˈjʁuˑs ˌtsɪnt ˈmɛˑtəs] is a Romanesque Catholic church in Cologne, Germany. Its foundations (circa 960 AD) rest on remnants of a Roman chapel, built on what was then an island in the Rhine. The church was later transformed into a Benedictine monastery. The current buildings, including a soaring crossing tower that is a landmark of Cologne's Old Town, were erected between 1150-1250. The architecture of its eastern end forms a triconch or trefoil plan, consisting of three apses around the crossing, similar to that at St. Maria im Kapitol. The church was badly damaged in World War II; restoration work was completed in 1985. The church has been open for visits again since 2009.
Kościół Świętego Marcina nazywany Wielkim (niem Groß St. Martin) – jeden z dwunastu romańskich kościołów w Kolonii. Tutaj słyszymy jego dzwony, sfilmowane o 12:33 11 lipca 2014. Kościół jest usytuowany w obrębie historycznego Reńskiego Przedmieścia, części Starego Miasta pomiędzy Renem a Starym Rynkiem, na południe od katedry św. Piotra i NMP. Wraz z kościołami NMP na Kapitolu i Świętych Apostołów tworzy grupę trójnawowych kościołów z wschodnią częścią na planie treflowym – podobnie jak prezbiterium półkoliste zamknięcia zastępują ramiona transeptu. Na skrzyżowaniu naw wznosi się masywna wieża.
Kościół wznosi się na miejscu dawnego basenu rzymskiego. Powstał jako kościół opacki dla Benedyktynów, do których należał do XIX w. Odtąd kościół parafialny, w 2009 przywrócono także klasztorną funkcję kościoła. Opiekę nad świątynią sprawuje Monastyczna Wspólnota Jerozolimska Niemal doszczętnie zniszczony podczas II wojny światowej, został odbudowany w latach 1945–1985. Jednakże zachowała się znaczna część oryginalnej architektury oraz dzieła sztuki tworzące historycznego wystroju wnętrza z XIII–XVII w.
