Russia - Exploring Tver and Torjok
When living in Moscow, it feels good to leave the city and to get some fresh air for the weekend. Jump in a train for 2 hours, and you will be in Tver.
Capital City of Tverskaya Oblyast, this city has honestly nothing so special... but is trully Russian. A nice walking street in the city center, leading to the Lenin's statue, a beautiful church, the Volga on which you can walk during winter... and that's it, not more. Although it's located only 2 hours from Moscow, you can feel a real difference between these two cities. People, prices, speed, architecture are very different. But you don't want to spend there more than one day. That's why you can take a taxi and go to Torjok.
Torjok is way smaller, but way cutter. Many little churches, a small Kremlin, and the atmosphere of a little village. I would recommend it for people staying in Moscow and looking for a quiet place to spend one day... not more.
This little trip is not hard to organize... especially with Kodamas always here to show you the way.

For our region it's a big event. According to the documents it was Stalin's only visit to the front. And it happened in this region. Here this museum tells about the events that happened near the city of Rzhev during the days of the Great Patriotic War (Russian term for World War Two) and about the events that happened at the Rzhevsko-Vyazemsky bridgehead where Nazis ruled for almost 14 months. And here everywhere around, as Mikhail Ivanovich Nozhkin (a Soviet actor and writer) said, great, tough and long battles were happening.

Each of us wants our state to be strong. And I always ask the following question: Can a strong state be ruled by a week president, a week head of the state? It can't be that way. So that the government became strong, the head of state has also to be smart, strong and sometimes even tough. Because today the current situation demands that. And in the time when Joseph Stalin ruled the country, the situation demanded this 100 times more.

We had the gulag. We had other mistakes. People were punished. But our soldiers went into the attack. They were rising for the motherland, for Stalin. And that happened in this region. He is a kind of a flag which lead us to the victory. And he may have had mistakes, but we know them, and our pupils know about these mistakes. We tell them about them, we are not hiding them. And we also say about the glory he brought to us.

STORYLINE:
As the 137th anniversary of the birth of Josef Stalin is marked on Friday, the retelling of the former Soviet leader's triumphs have become increasingly fashionable during troubled times in Russia.
A bust of Stalin stands outside a house-turned-museum in the village of Khoroshevo, in the Tver region, where he is said to have stayed the night on his only visit to the front during World War Two.
Groups of students look around the two-room building where Stalin strategised with his generals in August 1943 as the Red Army battled to drive out the Nazi troops.

Ukraine: Crimean and Russian flags flown in Simferopol's Lenin Square
All the Ukrainian flags were pulled down from Lenin Square in Simferopol and replaced with Crimean and Russian flags, Sunday. The action was undertaken by local council workers who expressed a will to join the Russian Federation.
As the crowd cheered the raising of Russian and Crimean flags in place of Ukrainian, some could not help breaking into tears. One woman called Tatyana, a resident of Sevestopol, was overwhelmed by the raising of the flags as 'Putin didn't abandon us'. She said she couldn't 'express how great it is' as she always felt Russian and hoped that Russian President Vladimir Putin would grant Crimeans Russian passports.
Surrounding the protesters were armed members of local self-defence units.
Similar actions have taken place over areas in Southern and Eastern regions of Ukraine, including Donetsk and Kharkov.

Journey from Magadan to Europe (English subs)

Kolyma - Birthplace of Our Fear

Russia recalls ambassador as Ukraine's interim leader vows close EU ties
Russia has recalled its ambassador to Ukraine... following what it calls the deteriorating situation in the country.
The move comes after Ukraine's newly appointed interim president Olexander Turchynov...vowed on Sunday to forge closer ties with the European Union.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has condemned the removal of President Viktor Yanukovynch in the face of mass protests, accusing opposition groups of deviating from a peace deal reached on Friday.
And we have news just now coming in that Ukraine's interim interior minister has announced that an arrest warrant has been issued for ousted President Yanukovych and other officials on charges of the mass murder of peaceful citizens.
We'll have more details in our later newscasts.
VLADIMIR CITY of hills & sun ВЛАДИМИР ГОРОД горок и солнца tourist vlog from Russia 2018 2019
the church at the same time is similar to Novgorod, and in Tver we have already seen such
you start to get used to this style
Well, the building of the local TV channel Vladimir, something in this is
i'm sorry but church again
Indeed, a Russian tourism is very Orthodox, as a result
still a monument to some uncle, obviously no one bogatyr Vladimir
Church of the Nativity
compared to Petersburg, there is also a central park of culture and recreation here.
could visit him for comparison
Well, here is the local Kremlin wall
still such a beautiful building
a little eyes run away from the beauty
I did not expect so many interesting objects in Vladimir
sometimes i wonder why i make all my videos
Well, yesterday I did not feel well
there was a feeling that if I didn’t take pictures, I won’t remember anything later
then you review videos and remember what you saw
I am interested to see my video, maybe it will be interesting to others
so you put it online
this wall is pretty
there is probably another observation deck ahead
thanks to comrade Stalin for not bombing all churches and cathedrals in the city of Vladimir
so
and below the city, look, there are cars
one wrong move and roll down the grass
such slides remind Kiev
there part of the city on the hills
walking down the street and near the rooftops
there is a track
nice alley, like in the shade and the sun
and below still life
so I want to go head over heels
someone will say that this is possible only in Russia, that you can stumble and fall
but in the capital of Slovenia Ljubljana, too, there is a fortress and next to the same plumb
there are no fences there
besides, since I remembered this Ljubljana, there is one attraction for the whole city
city of Vladimir as 10 Ljubljan

Katyn massacre in Soviet union. Horror.
Katyn massacre, also known as the Katyn Forest massacre (Polish: zbrodnia katyńska, 'Katyń crime'), was a mass execution of Polish military officers, policemen and civilian prisoners of war ordered by Soviet authorities on March 5, 1940. The number of victims is estimated at about 22,000, with the most commonly cited number of 21,768. The victims were murdered in the Katyn forest in Russia, the Kalinin (Tver) and Kharkiv prisons and elsewhere. About 8,000 were officers taken prisoner during the 1939 Soviet invasion of Poland, the rest being Poles arrested for allegedly being intelligence agents, gendarmes, spies, saboteurs, landowners, factory owners, lawyers, priests, and officials. Since Poland's conscription system required every unexempted university graduate to become a reserve officer, the Soviets were able to round up much of the Polish intelligentsia, and the Jewish, Ukrainian, Georgian and Belarusian intelligentsia of Polish citizenship.
Originally, Katyn massacre referred to the massacre at Katyn Forest, near the villages of Katyn and Gnezdovo (ca. 19 km west of Smolensk, Russia), of Polish military officers in the Kozelsk prisoner-of-war camp. It now is applied to the simultaneous executions of POWs from geographically distant Starobelsk and Ostashkov camps, and the executions of political prisoners from West Belarus and West Ukraine, shot on Stalin's orders at Katyn Forest, at the NKVD (Narodny Komissariat Vnutrennikh Del, the Soviet secret police) headquarters in Smolensk, at a Smolensk slaughterhouse, and at prisons in Kalinin (Tver), Kharkiv, Moscow, and other Soviet cities.
Nazi Germany announced the discovery of mass graves in the Katyn Forest in 1943. The revelation led to the break up of diplomatic relations between Moscow and the London-based Polish government-in-exile. The Soviet Union continued to deny the massacres until 1990, when it finally acknowledged the massacre by the NKVD, as well as the subsequent cover-up. The Russian government admitted Soviet responsibility for the massacres, yet does not classify this action as a war crime or as an act of genocide. This acknowledgement would have necessitated the prosecution of surviving perpetrators, which is what the Polish government had requested. In addition the Russian government also does not classify the dead as victims of Stalinist repression, which bars formal posthumous rehabilitation.
On 5 March 1940, pursuant to a note to Joseph Stalin from Lavrenty Beria, the members of the Soviet Politburo — Stalin, Vyacheslav Molotov, Lazar Kaganovich, Mikhail Kalinin, Kliment Voroshilov and Anastas Mikoyan; signed an order to execute 25,700 Polish nationalists and counterrevolutionaries kept at camps and prisons in occupied western Ukraine and Belarus. The reason for the massacre, according to historian Gerhard Weinberg, is that Stalin wanted to deprive a potential future Polish military of a large portion of its military talent: It has been suggested that the motive for this terrible step [the Katyn massacre] was to reassure the Germans as to the reality of Soviet anti-Polish policy. This explanation is completely unconvincing in view of the care with which the Soviet regime kept the massacre secret from the very German government it was supposed to impress... A more likely explanation is that... [the massacre] should be seen as looking forward to a future in which there might again be a Poland on the Soviet Union's western border. Since he intended to keep the eastern portion of the country in any case, Stalin could be certain that any revived Poland would be unfriendly. Under those circumstances, depriving it of a large proportion of its military and technical elite would make it weaker.

The cathedral was also a museum
Soviet leadership spared him
he is unique in that there are a lot of fences around him
once the fence, here is the passage to the observation deck and the second fence
here is the edge of the fences
in Vladimir, a magnificent observation deck, view of the Russian city with domed churches
by the way not far from Moscow

Lenin tried to hide behind the trees, but I found him
in Vladimir he is surprisingly small, almost natural
somehow much thinner
he became very thin while moving from Tver to Vladimir
in Vladimir compared to Tver, there are tourists, including foreigners
there were groups of Chinese and Europeans

SUMMARY
=======
Moscow (; Russian: Москва́, tr. Moskvá, IPA: [mɐˈskva] (listen)) is the capital and most populous city of Russia, with 13.2 million residents within the city limits and 17 million within the urban area. Moscow is one of Russia's federal cities.
Moscow is a major political, economic, cultural, and scientific centre of Russia and Eastern Europe, as well as the largest city (both by population and by area) entirely on the European continent. By broader definitions Moscow is among the world's largest cities, being the 14th largest metro area, the 18th largest agglomeration, the 14th largest urban area, and the 11th largest by population within city limits worldwide. According to Forbes 2013, Moscow has been ranked as the ninth most expensive city in the world by Mercer and has one of the world's largest urban economies, being ranked as an alpha global city according to the Globalization and World Cities Research Network, and is also one of the fastest growing tourist destinations in the world according to the MasterCard Global Destination Cities Index.
Moscow is the northernmost and coldest megacity and metropolis on Earth. It is home to the Ostankino Tower, the tallest free standing structure in Europe; the Federation Tower, the second-tallest skyscraper in Europe; and the Moscow International Business Center. By its territorial expansion on July 1 2012 southwest into the Moscow Oblast, the area of the capital more than doubled, going from 1,091 to 2,511 square kilometers (421 to 970 sq mi), resulting in Moscow becoming the largest city on the European continent by area; it also gained an additional population of 233,000 people.Moscow is situated on the Moskva River in the Central Federal District of European Russia, making it Europe's most populated inland city. The city is well known for its architecture, particularly its historic buildings such as Saint Basil's Cathedral with its colourful architectural style. With over 40 percent of its territory covered by greenery, it is one of the greenest capitals and major cities in Europe and the world, having the largest forest in an urban area within its borders—more than any other major city—even before its expansion in 2012.
The city has served as the capital of a progression of states, from the medieval Grand Duchy of Moscow and the subsequent Tsardom of Russia to the Russian Empire to the Soviet Union and the contemporary Russian Federation.
Moscow is the seat of power of the Government of Russia, being the site of the Moscow Kremlin, a medieval city-fortress that is today the residence for work of the President of Russia. The Moscow Kremlin and Red Square are also one of several World Heritage Sites in the city. Both chambers of the Russian parliament (the State Duma and the Federation Council) also sit in the city. Moscow is considered the centre of Russian culture, having served as the home of Russian artists, scientists and sports figures and because of the presence of museums, academic and political institutions and theatres.
The city is served by a transit network, which includes four international airports, nine railway terminals, numerous trams, a monorail system and one of the deepest underground rapid transit systems in the world, the Moscow Metro, the fourth-largest in the world and largest outside Asia in terms of passenger numbers, and the busiest in Europe. It is recognised as one of the city's landmarks due to the rich architecture of its 200 stations.Moscow has acquired a number of epithets, most referring to its size and preeminent status within the nation: The Third Rome (Третий Рим), the Whitestone One (Белокаменная), the First Throne (Первопрестольная), the Forty Soroks (Сорок Сороков) (sorok meaning both forty, a great many and a district or parish in Old Russian).
