MSC Meraviglia Cruise Review: Palermo Street Food Tour
We are in Palermo on day two of our incredible MSC Meraviglia Mediterranean Cruise.

Palermo is considered Sicily's cultural, economic and tourism capital. It's known for its rich history, culture, art, and music. More importantly for our visit Palermo is known for food! Today we are going to dig into Palermo's street food with a foodie style walking tour. We booked the Palermo street food walking tour with the super nice folks at Streaty. The tour is about 3 hours and explores the local markets of Capo and Vucciria and all kinds of cool things along the way. The first order of business is finding our way from the Meraviglia to the Teatro Massimo where we'll meet up with our guide, Angelo. It was about a 15 minute walk from the port, and we only had to ask for directions one time. Shortly after finding Angelo, he gave us our Streaty Palermo Food Passport, and we were off on our culinary adventure. We made our way through the streets of Palermo stopping at beautiful markets with amazing fruits and vegetables. Along the way, Angelo entertained us with interesting non-touristy details about the city's history, culture, food and more. There were many food filled stops on the tour, but a few of the notable food highlights include arancini, pane con la milza (pani cà meusa), and of course cannoli with ricotta cream. The tour finishes up at ends in piazza San Domenico with a stop for sweet dessert. This was truly a beautiful day, and great excursion. We recommend this tour for adventurous eaters, foodies, or anyone that just wants to have fun and explore Palermo.

There’s MUCH more to come on this journey as we continue our European cruise to Valetta (Malta), Barcelona (Spain), Marseille (France) and Genoa (Italy) so STAY TUNED!

DIY FOOD TOUR in PALERMO! What to Eat in Sicily, Italy // 157
I found as many authentic Sicilian foods as I could stuff in my mouth in one day in Palermo, and here they are! The DIY Food Tour in Sicily included: Arancini (my favorite), Cannoli, Sicilian Orange, Pane Di Panelle, and Cassata Siciliana.
The arancini is a fried rice ball filled with sauce, meat, cheese, or other fllings. They're named arancinis because once fried to a perfect golden, they look like Sicily's famous oranges.
The cannoli is a classic most people know, a stiff pastry filled with a sweetened ricotta mixture. However, most don't realize the deep cultural history that it is made of.
The Sicilian oranges had to be included because Sicily is said to have the best oranges in the world! It certainly did not disappoint.
Pane di Panelle is a sandwich made with chickpea-flour patties in the middle. Served as street food for about 2 euros.
Cassata Siciliana is an indulgent dessert. It consist of spongecake which is covered in a sweet almond cream, which is covered a thick sugar shell. It was so sweet I couldn't finish it all!
If you're wondering what to eat in Palermo, or what to eat in Sicily for that matter, then you'll be faced with a bombardment of choices! Almost everything I ate in Sicily was fantastic, and so much of it holds deep roots in culture!
If you're traveling on a budget, or you're like me and you're on one long-term low budget travel trip, then don't pay an absurd amount of money for a food tour in Palermo or Sicily. Instead, do a DIY food tour and pay only for the food!

I'm Sarah and I like to call myself a Food Traveler as I’m the living version of Yelp and TripAdvisor. I like to travel and eat, but of course, absorb new cultures and languages through my meals and travels. Traveling, eating and cooking, are my way to enjoy and learn about multiculturalism; my way to appreciate other cultures and learn about the big world we live in.
That's why I started this YouTube channel. I vlog when abroad, like to try the best, affordable and typical food and share it with the world. I'm also a Tel Avivit, New Yorker and Marseillaise by heart but I'm a Antwerpian French with Kabyle roots by birth.
I'm a soon Communications graduate with a true passion for anything media. I work as a reporter for ATV (Antwerp regional TV) and the city of Antwerp. My dream is to become a food, travel and culture reporter, this way I would be able to work and develop my passion at the same time. You want to know more?
