Zagreb In Your Pocket - Konoba Didov san
Zagreb In Your Pocket editor Kristina Kovač enjoys lunch at Konoba Didov san. Authentic Dalmatian cuisine as we recommend the beef and lamb roast cooked in the traditional 'ispod peke' style. The prosciutto, homemade sausages and freshly baked bread are to die for. Fresh desserts and a proud wine selection make for a fine way to dine.

The church is entered via a small door to the right of the main portal, overlooked by a trio of gargoyles. The interior is a treasure trove of neo-Gothic ornamentation, with a succession of pinnacled altars overlooked by exuberant stained glass windows. Zagreb In Your Pocket - King Tomislav Square (Trg kralja Tomislava)
Zagreb In Your Pocket editor Kristina Kovač tours the main sites of Zagreb starting at the train station on King Tomislav Square (Trg kralja Tomislava).
It is part of the Eastern leg of the Green Horseshoe (Zelena potkova) garden ring also made up of three squares: Trg kralja Tomislava with its Art Pavilion, Strossmayerov trg with the Gallery of Arts and Sciences and finally the glorious Zrinjevac with its exquisite Music Pavilion. This group of squares is worshipped by locals, tourists and animals of all types.
During these summer months of travellers headed through Zagreb to the coast, this Trg becomes position A for human observation. Expertly manicured, puppies, pigeons and people mingle together as though DNA differences were no big deal. The multi-line tram stop and underground Importanne mall are superbly immediate. Great sky views in the early evening.

Day 7 - Croatia
Lynne & I get a tour of Vukovar and Osijek in eastern Croatia. The tour guide told a quick version of the events of the Croatian War of Independence (1991 to 1995) and how it effected this area. I then started feeling sick and wasn't able to do too much else.

Zagreb In Your Pocket - Dolac Market
Croatia is a country passionate about its produce, and nowhere is this more visible than at the farmers' market Dolac. Small producers from surrounding villages gather in this central food mecca to sell their leafy greens and fleshy meats, which are instantly snapped up. Find everything from turnips to bee pollen and unidentified seeds that promise to straighten out your digestive tract. Old cafés and randomly strewn bar stools (appearing deceptively free) surround the shopping chaos on the upper level; while the meat hangs below your feet, in Dolac's underground bunker along with fresh produce, cheese, herbs, nuts, loose grains, olives by the kilo...and much, much more. A separate fish room (amateurs prepare your nose pincers) and cheese room (likewise) will keep you wandering through this ultimate homage to all things edible, Dolac.
