Surrey Bend Regional Park celebrated a grand opening April 16, 2016. Visitors discovered multi-use trails while investigating the wetlands, bogs and floodplains that make this a significant natural area. Co-managed with the City of Surrey.

A lot goes into the development of a regional park. Surrey Bend Regional Park is one of the few remaining large, non-dyked areas on the lower Fraser River and it's a balance of creating public amenities with protecting the natural environment.
Surrey Bend Regional Park - Design Strategy
Surrey Bend Regional Park is a landscape dominated by the ebb and flow of water. It is a place that celebrates the character of the River and the intricate wetlands resulting through the interaction of complex systems of hydrologic processes. It is a place that allows visitors to travel back in time to catch a glimpse of what the Fraser River floodplain looked like many generations ago.
As its name suggests, Surrey Bend sits along a broad arch of one of Canada’s great rivers - the Fraser. While much of the frontage along the river serves industrial uses and is diked to manage flooding, Surrey Bend is situated on an undiked section of the river’s floodplain, making the recently opened park a special place within the region.
The 10 hectare project site is located within 347 hectares of an undyked floodplain featuring a variety of wetlands. The diversity of these wetlands results from a variety of hydrological processes including daily tidal cycles, seasonal high water levels, past flood events, run off from upland slopes and precipitation.

About Tynehead Regional Park
Tynehead Regional Park is owned and maintained by Metro Vancouver. The park is 260 hectares of meadow and forest on the banks of the Serpentine River headwaters in Guildford. This park has a lot of wildlife, and is a habitat for owls, hawks and coyotes. The headwaters of the Serpentine River are spawning and rearing habitats for trout and salmon. The various trails and viewing platforms within the park offer great viewing for spawning salmon in October through December. Visit the Tynehead Hatchery, operated by the Serpentine Enhancement Society, and learn about the salmon of the Serpentine River and their efforts enhance the ecology of the river.
The park is an ideal place for a family day out, with picnic tables, the Tynehead Fish Hatchery and Butterfly Garden. The nature trails around the park are spectacular. Allow 40 minutes or more, depending on the trail you choose. Group campsites are also available for school outings, guide camps or special events, and can be booked through the Metro Vancouver website.
