BART: How to travel on BART 2018
This is a tutorial on how to ride on BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit). BART is a faster and more efficient way to travel around the bay area and especially when visiting San Francisco. With all the traffic, and trouble parking in San Francisco, BART is a great alternative. It is also a great way to travel from San Francisco or Oakland Airport to destinations. Bikes are allowed but not on overly crowded trains.
Here is the BART website:
Additional information on BART
(Provided by Wikipedia)
Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) is a rapid transit public transportation system serving the San Francisco Bay Area in California. The heavy rail elevated and subway system connects San Francisco and Oakland with urban and suburban areas in Alameda, Contra Costa, and San Mateo counties. BART serves 48 stations along six routes on 112 miles (180 km) of rapid transit lines, including a ten-mile spur line in eastern Contra Costa County which utilizes diesel multiple-unit trains and a 3.2-mile (5.1 km) automated guideway transit line to the Oakland International Airport. With an average of 423,000 weekday passengers and 124.2 million annual passengers in fiscal year 2017. BART is the fifth-busiest heavy rail rapid transit system in the United States.
BART is operated by the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District, formed in 1957. The initial system opened in stages from 1972 to 1974. As of 2018, it is being expanded to San Jose with the Silicon Valley BART extensions. (All additional info provided by Wikipedia)
SF Bay Area Events - The Curran Theater Tickets San Francisco Sept 24th #SFEvents
#Zennie62 SF Bay Area Events - The Curran Theater Tickets San Francisco Sept 24th #SFEvents
San Francisco, CA (June 29, 2017) – Press release: The Curran and Stanford Live at Stanford University, in association with Magic Theatre and Pomegranate Arts, announced today tickets for Taylor Mac’s groundbreaking performance art concert A 24-DECADE HISTORY OF POPULAR MUSIC, will go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, July 4th at 10:00am PT. Tickets can be purchased at or by calling 415-358-1220. The concert has been reworked into four six-hour Chapters, with performances at the Curran (445 Geary Street) on Friday, September 15, at 5pm; Sunday, September 17, at 2pm; Friday, September 22, at 5pm; and Sunday, September 24 at 2pm.
Ahead of the highly anticipated production, the Curran has released a music video of Taylor Mac performing “Amazing Grace” from A 24-DECADE HISTORY OF POPULAR MUSIC. The video was filmed on the streets of San Francisco and at the newly renovated Curran. The ‘cast’ in the video is entirely made up of Bay Area residents who responded to an open casting call, showing up in their favorite decade-inspired wear. It gives viewers an opportunity to hear a song from the concert, as well as experiencing a look at Taylor Mac’s world. The video, released today, can be accessed here: SFCURRAN.com/the-currant/videos/return-of-the-mac.
A 24-DECADE HISTORY OF POPULAR MUSIC will be performed in its entirety for the first time since the historic 24-hour marathon performance at Brooklyn’s St. Ann’s Warehouse last fall. Over four performances, audience members can experience Mac’s pièce de résistance, which The New York Times’ Wesley Morris called “one of the great experiences of my life.”
A 24-DECADE HISTORY OF POPULAR MUSIC is Mac’s multi-year effort to chart a subjective history of the United States through 246 songs that were popular throughout the country, and in its disparate communities, from 1776 to the present day. In performing the work, Mac is joined by an orchestra—led by Music Director Matt Ray, who created new arrangements of all 246 songs—plus an ensemble of “Dandy Minions” and a variety of local special guests, including members of the audience cast as colonial needleworkers, World War I soldiers and Yum Yum from The Mikado. Costume designer Machine Dazzle, a longtime Mac collaborator, has handmade an outrageously imaginative, world-unto-itself costume specific to each decade.

Places to see in ( San Francisco - USA ) Union Square
Places to see in ( San Francisco - USA ) Union Square
Union Square is a 2.6-acre (1.1 ha) public plaza bordered by Geary, Powell, Post and Stockton Streets in downtown San Francisco, California. Union Square also refers to the central shopping, hotel, and theater district that surrounds the plaza for several blocks. The area got its name because it was once used for Thomas Starr King rallies and support for the Union Army during the American Civil War, earning its designation as a California Historical Landmark.
Today, this one-block plaza and surrounding area is one of the largest collections of department stores, upscale boutiques, gift shops, art galleries, and beauty salons in the United States, making Union Square a major tourist destination, a vital, cosmopolitan gathering place in downtown San Francisco, and one of the world's premier shopping districts. Grand hotels and small inns, as well as repertory, off-Broadway, and single-act theaters also contribute to the area's dynamic, 24-hour character.
At the center of Union Square stands the Dewey Monument, an 85-foot (26 m) column on which stand a 9-foot (2.7 m) statue of Nike, the ancient Greek Goddess of Victory. The monument is dedicated to Admiral George Dewey, a hero of the Spanish–American War for his victory at the Battle of Manila Bay in 1898. The monument was dedicated in 1903.
Union Square has also come to describe not just the plaza itself, but the general shopping, dining, and theater districts within the surrounding blocks. The Geary and Curran theaters one block west on Geary anchor the theater district and border the Tenderloin. Union Square is also home to San Francisco's TIX Bay Area, a half-priced ticket booth and Ticketmaster outlet. Run by Theatre Bay Area, tickets for most of San Francisco's performing arts can be purchased the day of the performance at a discounted rate.
At the end of Powell Street two blocks south, where the cable cars turn around beside Hallidie Plaza at Market Street, is a growing retail corridor that is connected to the SOMA district. Nob Hill, with its grand mansions, apartment buildings and hotels, stands to the northwest of Union Square. Directly northeast is Chinatown, with its famous dragon gate at Grant Avenue and Bush Street.
The city's historic French Quarter northeast of Union Square and centers on the Belden Place alleyway, between Bush and Pine Streets, and Claude Lane off Bush Street. This area has many open-air French Restaurants and Cafes. Every year the area is the site of the boisterous Bastille Day celebration, the nation's largest, and Bush Street is temporarily renamed Buisson.
Directly east of the Square off of Stockton Street is Maiden Lane, a short and narrow alley of exclusive boutiques and cafes that leads to the Financial District and boasts the Xanadu Gallery, San Francisco's only building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright—with its interior most notable for being the predecessor for New York City's Guggenheim Museum. The square is part of the Barbary Coast Trail, linking many San Francisco landmarks.

Tideline floats solution to cramped Bay Area commutes
Tideline Marine Group CEO Taylor Lewis was raised in the maritime industry. During his travels he saw small harbor boat operations across the country. Inspired by the lack of similar options in San Francisco, Lewis started Tideline in 2011 to provide water taxi services across the Bay. Last year, Tideline became the first company in half a century to gain a permit to operate a commuter water taxi service in the Bay. The company is scheduled to kick off its public commuter line from the Berkeley Marina to the Ferry Building early next month, with tickets starting at $8 one-way, comparable to existing ferry services from the East Bay to San Francisco.
